Condensation of Ideal Bose Gas Confined in a Box Within a Canonical Ensemble
We set up recursion relations for the partition function and the ground-state
occupancy for a fixed number of non-interacting bosons confined in a square box
potential and determine the temperature dependence of the specific heat and the
particle number in the ground state. A proper semiclassical treatment is set up
which yields the correct small-T-behavior in contrast to an earlier theory in
Feynman's textbook on Statistical Mechanics, in which the special role of the
ground state was ignored. The results are compared with an exact quantum
mechanical treatment. Furthermore, we derive the finite-size effect of the
system.Comment: 18 pages, 8 figure
Recursive Graphical Solution of Closed Schwinger-Dyson Equations in phi^4-Theory -- Part1: Generation of Connected and One-Particle Irreducible Feynman Diagrams
Using functional derivatives with respect to the free correlation function we
derive a closed set of Schwinger-Dyson equations in phi^4-theory. Its
conversion to graphical recursion relations allows us to systematically
generate all connected and one-particle irreducible Feynman diagrams for the
two- and four-point function together with their weights.Comment: Author Information under http://www.physik.fu-berlin.de/~pelster

DanksagungIn dieser Promotionsschrift werden Untersuchungen thermodynamischer und
statistischer Eigenschaften von Bose-Einstein-Kondensaten in endlichen
Systemen präsentiert. Grosskanonische Beschreibungen idealer Bose-Gase liefern
Grundzustand-Besetzungen in verschiedenen Potentialen. Verbesserte analytische
Bosonen studiert. Das besondere Augenmerk gilt dabei der charakteristischen
Sensitivität der Dipol-Dipol-Wechselwirkung gegenüber der Fallen-Anisotropie.In this thesis, the investigations of thermodynamical and statistical
properties of Bose-Einstein condensates in finite systems are presented.
Descriptions of ideal Bose gases within grand-canonical ensemble yield
analytical and numerical results for the specific heat and the ground-state
occupancy in different potentials. Advanced analytical studies of the
condensation temperature give accurate descriptions of finite-size effects.
Contrary to common oppinion, the grand-canonical Bose-Einstein distribution is
shown to fail describing particle-number counting statistics in the condensate
region. An alternative description of a Bose-Einstein condensation is given
within the canonical ensemble theory of systems in thermal equilibrium. There,
the suitable path-integral formulation is applied in the framework of many-
body theory. This procedure leads to resonable thermodynamic properties for
all temperatures. The originally misleading treatment of a homogeneous Bose
gas by Feynman is properly corrected here. Furthermore, it is corroborated
that the particle counting statistics is adequately reproduced within the
canonical ensemble. A different field of study illuminated here concerns
thermodynamical properties of weakly contact and dipolar interacting Bose
systems. The interaction influence of the condensation temperature of
harmonically trapped bosons is investigated. In particular, our attention is
turned to the characteristic sensitivity of the dipolar interaction with
respect to the anisotropy of the trap
