    Quasi-Two-Body Decays of Nonstrange Baryons

    We examine the decays of nonstrange baryons to the final states Δπ\Delta\pi, NρN\rho, NηN\eta, NηN\eta^\prime, NωN\omega, N1/2+(1440)πN1/2^+(1440)\pi, and Δ3/2+(1600)π\Delta3/2^+(1600)\pi, in a relativized pair-creation(3P0^3P_0) model which has been developed in a previous study of the NπN\pi decays of the same baryon states. As it is our goal to provide a guide for the possible discovery of new baryon states at CEBAF and elsewhere, we examine the decays of resonances which have already been seen in the partial-wave analyses, along with those of states which are predicted by the quark model but which remain undiscovered. The level of agreement between our calculation and the available widths from the partial-wave analyses is encouraging.Comment: 41 pages, CEBAF-TH-93-1

    Crucial Dependence of ``Precarious'' and ``Autonomous'' phi^4s Upon the Normal-ordering Mass

    Using the Gaussian wave-functional approach with the normal-ordering renormalization prescription, we show that for the (3+1)-dimensional massive lambda phi^4 theory, ``precarious'' and ``autonomous'' phi^4s can exist if and only if the normal-ordering mass is equal to the classical masses at the symmetrc and asymmetric vacua, respectively.Comment: 6 pages, no figures, Revtex file, accepted for publication in Mod.     Vector meson photoproduction studied in its radiative decay channel

    We provide an analysis of vector meson photoproduction in the channel of the vector meson decaying into a pseudoscalar meson plus a photon, i.e. VPγV\to P\gamma. It is shown that non-trivial kinematic correlations arise from the measurement of the PγP\gamma angular distributions in the overall c.m. system in comparison with those in the vector-meson-rest frame. In terms of the vector meson density matrix elements, the implication of such kinematic correlations in the measurement of polarization observables is discussed. For the ω\omega meson production, due to its relatively large branching ratios for ωπ0γ\omega\to\pi^0\gamma, additional events from this channel may enrich the information about the reaction mechanism and improve the statistics of the recent measurement of polarized beam asymmetries by the GRAAL Collaboration. For ϕηγ\phi\to \eta\gamma, ρπγ\rho\to \pi\gamma, and KKγK^*\to K\gamma, we expect that additional information about the spin structure of the vector meson production vertex can be derived.Comment: Revtex, 14 pages, 2 eps figures; Version accepted by PR

    Quark model predictions for KK^* photoproduction on the proton

    The photoproduction of KK^* vector mesons is investigated in a quark model with an effective Lagrangian. Including both baryon resonance excitations and {\it t}-channel exchanges, observables for the reactions γpK0Σ+\gamma p\to K^{*0}\Sigma^+ and γpK+Σ0\gamma p\to K^{*+}\Sigma^0 are predicted, using the SU(3)-flavor-blind assumption of non-perturbative QCD.Comment: Revtex, 3 eps figures, revised version accepted by PRC Rapid Comm

    We present results from a series of NRQCD simulations of the charmonium system, both in the quenched approximation and with n_f = 2 dynamical quarks. The spectra show evidence for quenching effects of ~10% in the S- and P-hyperfine splittings. We compare this with other systematic effects. Improving the NRQCD evolution equation altered the S-hyperfine by as much as 20 MeV, and we estimate radiative corrections may be as large as 40%.Comment: Lattice 2000 (Heavy Quark Physics

    Pseudoscalar meson photoproduction: from known to undiscovered resonances

    The role of dynamics in spin observables for pseudoscalar meson photoproduction is investigated using a density matrix approach in a multipole truncated framework. Extraction of novel rules for γpπ+n, K+Λ\gamma p \rightarrow \pi^+ n,~ K^+ \Lambda and ηp\eta p reactions based on resonance dominance, and on other broad and reasonable dynamical assumptions, are discussed. Observables that are particularly sensitive to missing nucleonic resonances predicted by quark-based approaches, are singled out.Comment: 22 pages, latex, 3 figure

    Repulsive Core of NN S-Wave Scattering in a Quark Model with a Condensed Vacuum

    We work in a chiral invariant quark model, with a condensed vacuum, characterized by only one parameter. Bound state equations for the nucleon and Delta are solved in order to obtain an updated value of their radii and masses. Nucleon-nucleon S-Wave scattering is studied in the RGM framework both for isospin T=1 and T=0. The phase shifts are calculated and an equivalent local potential, which is consistent with K-N scattering, is derived. The result is a reasonable microscopic short range repulsion in the nucleon-nucleon interaction.Comment: 23 pages in latex revtex, 4 Postscript figure

    Nonperturbative mechanisms of strong decays in QCD

    Three decay mechanisms are derived systematically from the QCD Lagrangian using the field correlator method. Resulting operators contain no arbitrary parameters and depend only on characteristics of field correlators known from lattice and analytic calculations.     Electromagnetic Form Factors of the Nucleon in a Relativistic Quark Pair Creation Model

    We study the effects of the | qqq q\bar{q} > component of the hadronic wave function on the description of the electromagnetic structure of the nucleon. Starting with a qqq baryonic wave function which describes the baryonic and mesonic low energy spectrum, the extra q\bar{q} pair is generated through a relativistic version of the 3P_0 model. It is shown that this model leads to a renormalization of the quark mass that allows one to construct a conserved electromagnetic current. We conclude that these dynamical relativistic corrections play an important role in reproducing the Q2 dependence of the electromagnetic form factors at low Q^2.Comment: 15 pages, 3 figures.
