    Analysis of the influence to productivity of software corrective maintenance using an economic model

    © 2014 IEEE. This paper presents an economic model for productivity of software corrective maintenance. The productivity is modeled using economic value of the maintenance process as the output, and the pre-committed fixed cost and variable cost as input. The relationship of the economic value and these cost components are modeled using analytical theory of investment. The values of corrective maintenance process are analyzed. A simulation approach is demonstrated to analyze the influences to the productivity in corrective maintenance. This approach provides a tool to identify and analyze the optimal parameters in productivity using the economic model and simulation

    Performance comparison of packet scheduling algorithms in LTE-A HetNets

Performance comparison of various Packet Scheduling (PS) algorithms such as Proportional Fair (PF), Maximum Largest Weighted Delay First (MLWDF) and Exponential/Proportional Fair (EXP/PF) has been studied in HetNets environment. The performance indicators such as throughput, Packet Loss Ratio (PLR), delay and fairness are considered to judge the performance of the scheduling algorithms. Various strategies such as increasing the number of pico cells in the cell edge were used in the simulation for the performance evaluation study. The results achieved by various simulations show that adding the pico cells to the existing macros enhances the overall system performance in addition to various scheduling algorithms implemented in macros. Simulation results show that the overall system gain has increased by adding picos, provide better coverage in the cell edge and increase the capacity of the network to provide better Quality of Service (QoS). Furthermore, simulations show that MLWDF performs better for video traffic than compared to other with PS algorithms

    The sidewall-localized mode in a resonant precessing cylinder

    ArticleWe investigate, via direct numerical simulation using a finite-element method, the precessionally driven flow of a homogeneous fluid confined in a fluid-filled circular cylinder that rotates rapidly about its symmetry axis and precesses about a different axis that is fixed in space. Our numerical simulation, after validating with the asymptotic analytical solution for a weakly precessing cylinder and with the constructed exact solution for the strongly nonlinear problem, focuses on the strongly precessing flow at asymptotically small Ekman numbers. An unusual form of the resonant precessing flow is found when the precessing rate is sufficiently large and the corresponding nonlinearity is sufficiently strong. The nonlinear precessing flow is marked by a sidewall-localized non-axisymmetric traveling wave and a wall-localized axisymmetric shear together with an overwhelmingly dominant interior rigid-body rotation whose direction and magnitude substantially reduce the angular momentum of the rotating fluid system.K.Z. is supported by grants from UK Science and Technology Facilities Council and Natural Environment Research Council.     Benchmarking of real-time LTE network in dynamic environment

    © 2016 IEEE. LTE/LTE-A is high speed wireless communication technology which got evolved from 2G/3G. LTE provides very high throughput in uplink and downlink and hence it is attracting more and more subscribers every day. This paper analyzes the performance of real time LTE network of two different LTE service providers through drive test. Test cases were performed under dynamic environment where the test user is dynamic or the environment around the test user is dynamic (travelling in train or car). The performance comparison of different Key Performance Indicators (KPI) such as Reference Signal Received Power (RSRP), Reference Signal Received Quality (RSRQ), Reference Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI) and throughput (uplink - UL and downlink - DL) are made between the two LTE service providers. The performance tests were performed using Nemo tool in a real-time LTE network. Average values were obtained for different KPIs to study the performance of the LTE network

Full calculations are contrasted with calculations based on employing ``boundary-free'' effective field theories. The modelling approach is from economic view point. The productivity model considers the economic value of the maintenance phase, pre-committed fixed cost and variable cost consumed in adaptive/perfective maintenance. Influence factors to the productivity are analysed using simulation. The simulation provides a tool for IS project managers to tune the project parameters to obtain the optimal productivity in adaptive/perfective maintenance phases

    Valosin-containing protein regulates the proteasome-mediated degradation of DNA-PKcs in glioma cells.

    DNA-dependent protein kinase (DNA-PK) has an important role in the repair of DNA damage and regulates the radiation sensitivity of glioblastoma cells. The VCP (valosine-containing protein), a chaperone protein that regulates ubiquitin-dependent protein degradation, is phosphorylated by DNA-PK and recruited to DNA double-strand break sites to regulate DNA damage repair. However, it is not clear whether VCP is involved in DNA-PKcs (DNA-PK catalytic subunit) degradation or whether it regulates the radiosensitivity of glioblastoma. Our data demonstrated that DNA-PKcs was ubiquitinated and bound to VCP. VCP knockdown resulted in the accumulation of the DNA-PKcs protein in glioblastoma cells, and the proteasome inhibitor MG132 synergised this increase. As expected, this increase promoted the efficiency of DNA repair in several glioblastoma cell lines; in turn, this enhanced activity decreased the radiation sensitivity and prolonged the survival fraction of glioblastoma cells in vitro. Moreover, the VCP knockdown in glioblastoma cells reduced the survival time of the xenografted mice with radiation treatment relative to the control xenografted glioblastoma mice. In addition, the VCP protein was also downregulated in ~25% of GBM tissues from patients (WHO, grade IV astrocytoma), and the VCP protein level was correlated with patient survival (R(2)=0.5222, P<0.05). These findings demonstrated that VCP regulates DNA-PKcs degradation and increases the sensitivity of GBM cells to radiation

    Swift, XMM-Newton, and NuSTAR observations of PSR J2032+4127/MT91 213

    We report our recent Swift, NuSTAR, and XMM-Newton X-ray and Lijiang optical observations on PSR J2032+4127/MT91 213, the gamma-ray binary candidate with a period of 45-50 years. The coming periastron of the system was predicted to be in November 2017, around which high-energy flares from keV to TeV are expected. Recent studies with Chandra and Swift X-ray observations taken in 2015/16 showed that its X-ray emission has been brighter by a factors of ~10 than that before 2013, probably revealing some on-going activities between the pulsar wind and the stellar wind. Our new Swift/XRT lightcurve shows no strong evidence of a single vigorous brightening trend, but rather several strong X-ray flares on weekly to monthly timescales with a slowly brightening baseline, namely the low state. The NuSTAR and XMM-Newton observations taken during the flaring and the low states, respectively, show a denser environment and a softer power-law index during the flaring state, implying that the pulsar wind interacted with stronger stellar winds of the companion to produce the flares. These precursors would be crucial in studying the predicted giant outburst from this extreme gamma-ray binary during the periastron passage in late 2017.Comment: 6 pages, including 3 figures and 2 tables.     Road Vehicle Detection and Classification Using Magnetic Field Measurement

    © 2013 IEEE. This paper presents a road vehicle recognition and classification approach for intelligent transportation systems. This approach uses a roadside installed low-cost magnetometer and associated data collection system. The system measures the magnetic field changing, detects passing vehicles, and recognizes vehicle types. We introduce Mel Frequency Cepstral Coefficients (MFCC) to analyze vehicle magnetic signals and extract it as vehicle feature with the representation of cepstrum, frame energy, and gap cepstrum of magnetic signals. We design a 3-dimensional map algorithm using Vector Quantization (VQ) to classify vehicle magnetic features to 4 typical types of vehicles in Australian suburbs: sedan, van, truck, and bus. In order to train an accurate classifier, training samples are selected using the Dynamic Time Warping (DTW). The verification experiments show that our approach achieves a high level of accuracy for vehicle detection and classification
