Pok\'emon Go: Impact on Yelp Restaurant Reviews

Pok\'emon Go, the popular Augmented Reality based mobile application, launched in July of 2016. The game's meteoric rise in usage since that time has had an impact on not just the mobile gaming industry, but also the physical activity of players, where they travel, where they spend their money, and possibly how they interact with other social media applications. In this paper, we studied the impact of Pok\'emon Go on Yelp reviews. For restaurants near Pok\'eStops, we found a slight drop in the number of online reviews

Web Service for Knowledge Management Information Tool (KMIT) Hotline module and its Security

    Get PDF
This thesis presents the development of a Web Service for the Hotline module of the Knowledge Management Information Tool (KMIT), a tool that is custom built for the decontamination & decommissionin (D&D) community of the Department Of Energy (DOE). The Hotline module allows interested users to post problems to specific areas of interest in the field of D&D. Various clients working with DOE and KMIT want to display the latest published problems of KMIT Hotline search in their own applications on a regular basis. Considering one of the major benefits of Web Services is the ease of integration of one piece of software with another, the Hotline Service is successfully developed and can be plugged into client’s applications by adding a reference to it. In such a distributed environment, messages can flow from node to node, through firewalls, onto the internet and through various intermediaries. This introduces a variety of message security threats. The research for this thesis included a study of the various security risks and scenarios. Appropriate security model is designed and is successfully implemented. Hotline Service can authenticate the client and ensure confidentiality making the service secure to communicate wit

Clear cell renal cell carcinoma with vaginal and brain metastases: a case report and literature review

    Get PDF
There are very few cases of clear cell renal cell carcinoma with metastases to the vagina and brain reported in the literature. Our case study highlights this rare clinical occurrence and its associated complications including pulmonary embolism. In addition we discuss current management guidelines for treating and diagnosing the disease, and how this management improves prognosis

Computational Identification of Indispensable Virulence Proteins of Salmonella Typhi CT18

    Get PDF
Typhoid infections have become an alarming concern with the increase of multidrug resistant strains of Salmonella serovars. The new pathogenic Gram-negative strains are resistant to most antibiotics such as chloramphenicol, ampicillin, trimethoprim, ciprofloxacin and even co-trimoxazole and their derivatives thereby causing numerous outbreaks in the Indian subcontinent, Southeast Asian and African countries. Conventional and modern methods of typing had been adopted to differentiate outbreak strains. However, identifying the most indispensable proteins from the complete set of proteins of the whole genome of Salmonella sp., comprising the Salmonella pathogenicity islands (SPI) responsible for virulence, has remained an ever challenging task. We have adopted a network-based method to figure out, albeit theoretically, the most significant proteins which might be involved in the resistance to antibiotics of the Salmonella sp. An understanding of the above will provide insight into conditions that are encountered by this pathogen during the course of infection, which will further contribute in identifying new targets for antimicrobial agents

This case report is about a case of breast cancer in pregnancy at the Brooklyn hospital Center. Our patient`s case highlights some of the inherent causes of fatality in PABC and how to thread the line between the mother`s health and the baby`s safety to ensure a good outcome for both parties

Concomitant leiomyosarcoma of the right kidney and squamous cell carcinoma of the cervix – an unusual clinical presentation

    Get PDF
We report a case of right-sided leiomyosarcoma of the kidney with concomitant poorly differentiated squamous cell carcinoma of the cervix diagnosed one month after radical nephrectomy in a previously healthy female patient. This is the first reported case of concomitant leiomyosarcoma of the kidney and squamous cell carcinoma of the cervix, and the diagnosis, clinical presentation, prognosis, and treatment are discussed

Clinical and Stroboscopic evaluation of vocal cord function before and after thyroid surgery

    Get PDF
Introduction: Voice change due to injury to the Recurrent Laryngeal nerve and the external branch of the superior laryngeal nerve is an important complication of Thyroid Surgery Objectives: Video Laryngeal Stroboscopy comes in handy for the detection of vocal cord palsies postoperatively that may be missed on routine examination, to know the extent of the pathology. Methods: 100 patients with thyroid swelling who have been evaluated and planned for thyroidectomy in a tertiary care centre between June 2016 to June 2018 were taken as subjects for this prospective observational study. Clinical examination and Video Laryngeal Stroboscopy were done pre operatively and compared to the same on third post-operative day and 1month following surgery. Results: Preoperative Video Laryngeal Stroboscopy was normal in all subjects. 26 out of 100 subjects had subjective postoperative voice change of various degrees. Out of 26 patients, 22 were diagnosed to have Recurrent Laryngeal Nerve palsy and 4 with Superior Laryngeal Nerve palsy .Most common symptoms post-surgery were Voice fatigue in 26% followed by decreased pitch range in 13% and hoarseness in 6% cases. Bowing of vocal cords was seen in 4 subjects (4%), Asymmetry of travelling mucosal wave (slight to severe) in 8 subjects (8%), incomplete glottis closure in 6 subjects (6%). Conclusion: Video Laryngeal Stroboscopy is a useful tool in evaluation of patients with suspected laryngeal paralysis. Paralysis of Superior Laryngeal Nerve, Recurrent Laryngeal Nerve or both results in asymmetric laryngeal vibration that is easily identified by even inexperienced observers using Stroboscopy in an otherwise normal rigid telescopy of laryn

Investigation of Sesamol on Myeloperoxidase and Colon Morphology in Acetic Acid-Induced Inflammatory Bowel Disorder in Albino Rats

    Get PDF
Background. Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a chronic inflammatory disorder of gastrointestinal tract of immune, genetic, and environmental origin. In the present study, we examined the effects of sesamol (SES), which is the active constituent of sesame oil in the acetic acid (AA) induced model for IBD in rats. Methods. The groups were divided into normal control, AA control, SES, and sulfasalazine (SS). On day 7, the rats were killed, colon was removed, and the macroscopic, biochemical, and histopathological evaluations were performed. Results. The levels of MPO, TBARS, and tissue nitrite increased significantly (P<0.05) in the AA group whereas they reduced significantly in the SES and SS treated groups. Serum nitrite levels were found to be insignificant between the different groups. Conclusions. The mucosal protective effects of sesamol in IBD are due to its potential to reduce the myeloperoxidase and nitrite content
