Analysis of states in 13C populated in 9Be + 4He resonant scattering

    Get PDF
Measurements of 9Be+α resonant scattering have been performed using the thick-target approach with a 4He gas volume and a large area silicon strip detector. 9Be beam energies in the range 12 to 21.4 MeV were used to measure the 13C excitation energy spectrum between 13.2 and 16.2 MeV. An R-matrix analysis has been performed to characterize the spins and widths of 13C resonances, some of which have been proposed to be associated with a 3α+n molecular band

RECONSTRUCTION OF CHERENKOV RINGS IN IMAGING DETECTORS

A simulation and reconstruction method is presented which enables particle identification in a multihit environment with a RICH detector even in the case where the particle hit point on the detector is not precisely determined. The method is demonstrated for the configuration of the NA35 experiment

A LARGE AREA OPTICAL IMAGING UV DETECTOR OPERATING WITH TMAE AT 48-DEGREES-C

We describe the multistep avalanche chamber (MSAC) used in the experiment NA35 at CERN as photon detector of a ring imaging Cherenkov counter (RICH) that upgraded the experimental setup of a vertex streamer chamber by providing particle identification in the 1.5-3.5 GeV/c region. The chamber design contains some innovative technical solutions to limit the sparking rate and to allow the sensitive area to be larger than the present 50 x 50 cm 2. The detector is read out optically using a CCD camera in conjunction with a system of light intensifiers, since the optical readout offers a convenient way to record events in a two-dimensional array. Construction details and test results are discussed
