    A Phenomenological Study: The Experience of Live Supervision during a Pre-practicum Counseling Techniques Course

    The experiences of live supervision for three, master’s level, pre-practicum counseling students were explored using a phenomenological methodology. Using semi-structured interviews, this study resulted in a thick description of the experience of live supervision capturing participants’ thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Data revealed that live supervision during pre-practicum is a multifaceted experience comprised of numerous roles that not only contribute to counselor skill development, but counselor identity development. Participants’ stories reflected the benefit and impact that live supervision provides in the educational context

    The experiences of live supervision for three, master 's level, prepracticum A primary task when obtaining a master's degree in counselor education is learning the basic skills of counseling; yet, research is lacking that could potentially inform the work of counselor educators with regard to the best educational format in which to teach these skills. Woodard and Lin (1999) described the pre-practicum class as integral to bridging the gap between course work and clinical work (practicum and internship), so it seems important to explore the various venues through which the skills are taught. They also contended that pre-practicum introduces students to counselor identity as well as aids in the successful transition between course work and clinical work given the focus on basic counseling skill

    A Pedagogical Framework for Counselor Educators working with Millennial Students

    While literature has concluded that millennial students are dedicated and highly motivated, students may be less patient with the process given that they have grown up in a digital world with information available in seconds (Smith & Koltz, 2012). Therefore, it seems important to consider how millennial generational characteristics fit within the context of a counseling program’s educational environment. The authors situate characteristics of the millennial generation in four theoretical domains to provide pedagogical framework for counselor educators to consider when working with students from the millennial generation. Understanding shifts in generational groups and similarities within each group may provide educators an opportunity to reevaluate traditional pedagogical approaches and to construct new ways of teaching and learning

    Clinicians often have negative attitudes toward clients diagnosed with antisocial personality disorder (ASPD), which can sabotage treatment and lead to clinician burnout and job dissatisfaction. Researchers recommend clinicians receive regular clinical supervision; however, clinical supervision strategies and models related to working with ASPD are lacking. We identify supervisors’ primary task as exploring and improving clinicians’ attitudes toward clients having ASPD and examine this task within the discrimination model of clinical supervision. A case study is offered as an illustration for how to approach working with ASPD in supervision

    Anopheles fluminensis Root is a member of the Arribalzagia Series in the subgenus Anopheles. We report the first record of this species in the department of Cochabamba, Bolivia. This species was sampled from two locations in the foothills of the eastern Andes Mountains within the Chapare Valley. Larvae were collected in fast-flowing, shaded streams at the edges of rocky pools. We provide the first sequence data for the rDNA of An. fluminensis, a partial sequence of the 5.8S and the internal transcribed spacer 2 (ITS2). The ITS2 of An. fluminensis, sequenced from two individuals at one site, was at least 596 bp, had 56.5% GC, and included three large repeats (≈125 bp each). We describe a polymerase chain reaction protocol and species-specific primers for identifying this species in the Chapare Valley, Bolivia
