Background subtraction is one of the most important parts in image and video processing field. There are some unnecessary parts during the image or video processing, and should be removed, because they lead to more execution time or required memory. Several subtraction methods have been presented for the time being, but find the best-suited method is an issue, which this study is going to address. Furthermore, each process needs to the specific subtraction technique, and knowing this issue helps researchers to achieve faster and higher performance in their research. This paper presents a comparative study of several existing background subtraction methods which have been investigated from simple background subtraction to more complex statistical techniques. The goal of this study is to provide a view of the strengths and drawbacks of the widely used methods. The methods are compared based on their memory requirement, the computational time and their robustness of different videos. Finally, a comparison between the existing methods has been employed with some factors like computational time or memory requirements. It is also hoped that this analysis helps researchers to address the difficulty of selecting the most convenient method for background subtraction

To achieve realistic Augmented Reality (AR), shadows play an important role in creating a 3D impression of a scene. Casting virtual shadows on real and virtual objects is one of the topics of research being conducted in this area. In this paper, we propose a new method for creating complex AR indoor scenes using real time depth detection to exert virtual shadows on virtual and real environments. A Kinect camera was used to produce a depth map for the physical scene mixing into a single real-time transparent tacit surface. Once this is created, the camera's position can be tracked from the reconstructed 3D scene. Real objects are represented by virtual object phantoms in the AR scene enabling users holding a webcam and a standard Kinect camera to capture and reconstruct environments simultaneously. The tracking capability of the algorithm is shown and the findings are assessed drawing upon qualitative and quantitative methods making comparisons with previous AR phantom generation applications. The results demonstrate the robustness of the technique for realistic indoor rendering in AR systems

Nutritional value of freshwater mesozooplankton, fatty acid (FA) and amino acid (AA) compositions were determined in the middle of each season for a one-year period from May 2009 to February 2010 in Hanna Dam Lake, Isfahan, Iran. FA and AA composition significantly (P<0.05) varied in relation to the seasonal changes of water quality, phytoplankton and zooplankton community. The content of saturated fatty acids (SAFA), mono unsaturated fatty acids (MUFA) and polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) ranged from 22.4-29.0%, 30.9-40.4%, 11.8-20.9% of dry weight (DW), respectively. The major SAFA were 16:0 (13.7-17.0 % DW) and 18:0 (4.9-7.0 % DW), whereas contents of MUFA were mainly 18:1n-9 (13.8-16.2 % DW), 16:1n-7 (6.9-13.6% DW), and 18:1n-7 (5.7-10.6% DW). The major PUFA were 18:2n-6 (2.6-11.7 % DW), 18:3n-3 (2.4-3.1% DW), 20:5n-3 (3.9-4.8% DW), 22:6n-3 (0.73-0.99% DW), and 20:4n-6 (0.56-0.73% DW). As for the ratios of n-3:n-6, the values were 0.70:1, 2.54:1, 2.10:1, and 1.73:1 in spring, summer, autumn and winter respectively. The mean essential amino acid (EAA) and non-essential amino acid (NEAA) were 28.7 and 71.3 %; 31.0 and 69.0 %; 31.63 and 68.4 %; 34.5 and 67.0 % of total amino acid in spring, summer, autumn and winter, respectively. The amount of tyrosin, isolucine, lucine, arginine, cysteine, aspartic acid, glycine and proline were higher in mesozooplankton population at summer and autumn compared to winter and spring

In this study, we present a new approach for Web Usage Mining using Case Based Reasoning. Case-Based Reasoning techniques are a knowledge-based problem-solving approach which is based on the reuse of previous work experience. Thus, the past experience can be deemed as an efficient guide for solving new problems. Web personalization systems which have the capability to adapt the next set of visited pages to individual users according to their interests and navigational behaviors have been proposed. The proposed architecture consists of a number of components, namely, basic log preprocessing, pattern discovery methods (By Case Based Reasoning and peer to peer similarity—Clustering—association rules mining methods), and recommendations. One of the issues considered in this study is that there are no recommendations to those who are different from the existing users in the log file. Also, it is one of the challenges facing the recommendations systems. To deal with this problem, Apriori algorithm was designed individually in order to be utilized in presenting recommendations; in other words, in cases where recommendations may be inadequate, using association rules can enhance the overall system performance recommendations. A new method used in this study is clustering algorithms for Nominal web data. Our evaluations show that the proposed method along with Standard case-classified Log provides more effective recommendations for the users than the Logs with no case classification

Due to the increase in the global aging population and its associated age-related challenges, various cognitive, physical, and social problems can arise in older adults, such as reduced walking speed, mobility, falls, fatigue, difficulties in performing daily activities, memory-related and social isolation issues. In turn, there is a need for continuous supervision, intervention, assistance, and care for elderly people for active and healthy aging. This research proposes an ambient assisted living system with the Internet of Medical Things that leverages deep learning techniques to monitor and evaluate the elderly activities and vital signs for clinical decision support. The novelty of the proposed approach is that bidirectional Gated Recurrent Unit, and Gated Recurrent Unit deep learning techniques with mutual information-based feature selection technique is applied to select robust features to identify the target activities and abnormalities. Experiments were conducted on two datasets (the recorded Ambient Assisted Living data and MHealth benchmark data) with bidirectional Gated Recurrent Unit, and Gated Recurrent Unit deep learning techniques and compared with other state of art techniques. Different evaluation metrics were used to assess the performance, findings reveal that bidirectional Gated Recurrent Unit deep learning techniques outperform other state of art approaches with an accuracy of 98.14% for Ambient Assisted Living data, and 99.26% for MHealth data using the proposed approach
