Censorship Towards the Subject of the Warsaw Uprising in Belles-Lettres in 1956–1958
Right from the beginning, the subject of the Warsaw Uprising was often manipulated or even entirely erased from public discourse under the Stalinist regime. It was only after the liberalization of culture and the easing of censorship-related repressions that the said topic returned in literature. The paper focuses on the censorship bureau’s approach to the image of the Uprising presented by writers. Moreover, it attempts to specify – on the basis of specific examples – the kind of content that was accepted, rejected or amended. The juxtaposition of censors’ documents and the content of the published works allows for the examination of the depth of censors’ interventions and their methods of manipulating historical facts. Those areas of special interest include: presentation of the division among the insurgents who were supposed to belong either to the brave ordinary soldiers or the passive leadership, as well as the attitude towards the People’s Army, the First Polish Army, the Home Army or the Red Army, with special regard for its passiveness during the Uprising

The paper focuses on censorship board’s approach to the subject of Home Army in Polish poetry from the period 1956−1958 of the liberalization of culture. The basic purpose of the research is focused on the identification of censorship reference to the image created by the authors. Moreover, it attempts to specify – on the basis of examples – the kind of content that was accepted, rejected or amended. Juxtaposition of the sensor’s reviews, “preventive inspection reports” and the content published works allows for the examination of the depth of the censor’s intervention and their methods of manipulating historical facts concerning the Hole Army. Research of the relationship censor-author allows for analyze “Aesop’s language” strategy. The whole of paper is based on a historical context and related phenomena, including the amnesty and so-called the “rehabilitation”
The Banking System in Kyrgyzstan
Kyrgyzstan is the most advanced state in Central Asia in the area of radical reforms aimed at the reconstruction of the economic system. These reforms concern the entire banking system and its role in the transformation process. Smooth Hamiltonian systems with soft impacts
In a Hamiltonian system with impacts (or "billiard with potential"), a point
particle moves about the interior of a bounded domain according to a background
potential, and undergoes elastic collisions at the boundaries. When the
background potential is identically zero, this is the hard-wall billiard model.
Previous results on smooth billiard models (where the hard-wall boundary is
replaced by a steep smooth billiard-like potential) have clarified how the
approximation of a smooth billiard with a hard-wall billiard may be utilized
rigorously. These results are extended here to models with smooth background
potential satisfying some natural conditions. This generalization is then
applied to geometric models of collinear triatomic chemical reactions (the
models are far from integrable -degree of freedom systems with ).
The application demonstrates that the simpler analytical calculations for the
hard-wall system may be used to obtain qualitative information with regard to
the solution structure of the smooth system and to quantitatively assist in
finding solutions of the soft impact system by continuation methods. In
particular, stable periodic triatomic configurations are easily located for the
smooth highly-nonlinear two and three degree of freedom geometric models.Comment: 33 pages, 8 figure
Collective performance of a finite-time quantum Otto cycle
We study the finite-time effects in a quantum Otto cycle where a collective
spin system is used as the working fluid. Starting from a simple one-qubit
system we analyze the transition to the limit cycle in the case of a
finite-time thermalization. If the system consists of a large sample of
independent qubits interacting coherently with the heat bath, the superradiant
equilibration is observed. We show that this phenomenon can boost the power of
the engine. Mutual interaction of qubits in the working fluid is modeled by the
Lipkin-Meshkov-Glick Hamiltonian. We demonstrate that in this case the quantum
phase transitions for the ground and excited states may have a strong negative
effect on the performance of the machine. Reversely, by analyzing the work
output we can distinguish between the operational regimes with and without a

INTRODUCTION: Weight gain and obesity are risk factors for insulin resistance that can lead to type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease; however, there is a complicated interplay between insulin sensitivity (SI), fasting insulin, acute insulin response (AIR), and disposition index (DI) and the relationship of these dynamic measures with weight change is not well understood.
AIM: The aim of this study was to investigate the relationships between insulin dynamic measures, SI, fasting insulin, AIR, and DI, with weight change during a 5-years follow-up period in the multi-ethnic cohort of the Insulin Resistance Atherosclerosis Study (IRAS).
METHODS: Data on 879 men and women of Hispanic, non-Hispanic White, and African-American race/ethnicity aged 40-69 years were obtained at baseline (1992-1994) and at 5 year follow-up. Crude associations between the insulin dynamic measures and weight change were evaluated using Kruskal-Wallis test and the relationships between log-transformed insulin-related variables were examined using Spearman rank-order analysis. Multivariate regression models evaluated associations of interest adjusted for age, sex, ethnicity, and diabetes status in a time-dependent manner using mixed models.
RESULTS: Insulin sensitivity SI inversely coevolves with weight, i.e. greater weight is predicted by lower SI at any time point. To answer the question whether SI is the cause or a consequence of weight change, we examined the associations with the baseline values and a change in SI. In this model, both the baseline SI and change in SI were inversely correlated with weight gain. A similar approach showed that baseline values and change in fasting insulin were directly associated with weight gain. Weight change over time was associated with AIR, i.e. increases in AIR and greater AIR at baseline predicted weight gain. We did not find strong relationships between DI and weight change.
DISCUSSION: These results suggest that insulin sensitivity and insulin secretion can modulate weight in a non-diabetic population
