Water Quality of the West Branch of the Dupage River and Kline Creek, Illinois, as Evaluated Using the Arthropod Fauna and Chemical Measurements

The water quality of the West Branch of the DuPage River (W. Branch) and Kline Creek, a tributary of the W. Branch, were examined. Both streams are located in rapidly developing DuPage County, IL. Using Hilsenhoff\u27s biotic index of the arthropod fauna and selected chemical measurements, the W. Branch was found to be moderately polluted and Kline Creek moderately to severely polluted. High mean biotic index measurements ranging from 6.28 to 7.97, ammonia- nitrogen readings of 1.0-3.9 ppm, nitrate-nitrogen readings of 0.4-1.6 ppm, chloride readings of 231-313 ppm, and orthophosphate readings of 0.3-0.5 ppm reflect organically polluted waters in both streams. Stream channelization and modification may also be contributing to the less than optimal water quality at the headwater of the W. Branch

Oral History Interview: George Kline

This interview is one of a series conducted with former employees of the Huntington Owens-Illinois, Inc. glass bottle factory. George Kline lives in Spring Valley, in Wayne County, West Virginia, a rural and relatively undeveloped region where many retired Owens-Illinois workers live. Kline\u27s interview begins with a gathering of demographic information by the interviewer (Kline\u27s age, marital status, etc.). Kline talks about the other members of his family who were once employed at Owens before launching into a discussion of his personal job history and the contents of his various positions at Owens (corrugated department, maintenance, lehr attendant). This interview contains a lengthy description of the evolution toward greater and greater automation in the workplace as Kline talks about this process as it was exhibited at the Huntington Owens plant. Stephen Jay Kline on systems, or physics, complex systems, and the gap between.

At the end of his life, Stephen Jay Kline, longtime professor of mechanical engineering at Stanford University, completed a book on how to address complex systems. The title of the book is 'Conceptual Foundations of Multi-Disciplinary Thinking' (1995), but the topic of the book is systems. Kline first establishes certain limits that are characteristic of our conscious minds. Kline then establishes a complexity measure for systems and uses that complexity measure to develop a hierarchy of systems. Kline then argues that our minds, due to their characteristic limitations, are unable to model the complex systems in that hierarchy. Computers are of no help to us here. Our attempts at modeling these complex systems are based on the way we successfully model some simple systems, in particular, 'inert, naturally-occurring' objects and processes, such as what is the focus of physics. But complex systems overwhelm such attempts. As a result, the best we can do in working with these complex systems is to use a heuristic, what Kline calls the 'Guideline for Complex Systems.' Kline documents the problems that have developed due to 'oversimple' system models and from the inappropriate application of a system model from one domain to another. One prominent such problem is the Procrustean attempt to make the disciplines that deal with complex systems be 'physics-like.' Physics deals with simple systems, not complex ones, using Kline's complexity measure. The models that physics has developed are inappropriate for complex systems. Abstrak: Akses jaringan internet sudah menjadi kebutuhan setiap orang dikarenakan kemajuan ilmu pengetahuan dan kemajuan teknologi sehingga sudah menjadi kubutuhan sehari-harinya untuk mengakses jaringan internet, adapun kebutuhan akses internet pada jaringan komputer yang berjalan di perusahaan PT. Kline Mobaru Diamond Indonesia masih sering terjadi kendala terutama pada sisi pengguna internet di perusahaan PT. Kline Mobaru Diamond Indonesia sendiri seperti seringnya terjadi kendala seperti beban trafik yang melonjak tinggi dan terjadinya terputusnya akses internet jika penyedia layanan internet (Internet Service Provider) yang digunakan terjadi gangguan. Jaringan komputer yang diharapkan pada perusahaan PT. Kline Mobaru Diamond Indonesia dapat berjalan tanpa adanya kendala pada saat akses internet sehingga tidak akan ada gangguan pada pengguna akses internet khususnya karyawan di PT. Kline Mobaru Diamond Indonesia dalam mengerjakan pekerjaannya maka akan diterapkan Perancangan Load Balancing dan Failover Menggunakan Mikrotik Dengan Metode Network Development Life Cycle. Load Balancing dan Failover merupakan sebuah metode yang dimana metode tersebut membutuhkan dua atau lebih dari penyedia layanan internet (Internet Service Provider) sehingga kedua atau lebih penyedia layanan internet (Internet Service Provider) tersebut berjalan dan menampung beban trafik secara seimbang dan saling mem-backup jika salah satu penyedia layanan terjadi masalah.   Kata kunci: Failover, Load Balancing, Jaringan, Mikrotik   Abstract: Internet network access has become a need for everyone due to advances in science and technological advances so that it has become a daily necessity to access the internet network, as for the need for internet access on a computer network running at the company PT. Kline Mobaru Diamond Indonesia in carrying out its work will apply Load Balancing and Failover Design Using Mikrotik with Network Development Life Cycle Method.
