Peer education on sexual diversity in Dutch secondary education: peer educators’ perceptions of activities and perceived outcomes

Process evaluations of peer education on the topic of sexuality and relationships pay little attention to the activities implemented by peer educators. Process evaluation with other target groups indicate clusters of activities that refer to educator skills, offering a safe place to learn, and efforts to change attitudes. An overarching factor named life experiences influences how peer educators implement activities. In this study, a peer education for social acceptance of LGBT was created and implemented in pre-vocational secondary schools. Students trained as peer educators implemented peer education, and after the implementation, they were interviewed about their activities. Spelsimulaties 'revisited': Serious gaming in de publieke sector

In 1995 heeft Bestuurskunde aandacht besteed aan een voor de bestuurskunde wat ‘exotisch’ onderwerp, namelijk ‘spelsimulaties’. Het betreffende themanummer bestond uit vier bijdragen onder gastredactie van prof. Jac Geurts (e.a.), hoogleraar Beleids- en Organisatiewetenschappen in Tilburg. Inmiddels zijn we meer dan een decennium verder. Een interessante vraag is of spelsimulaties (gaming, beleidsexercities) hun weg in de bestuurs- en beleidskunde en in de beleidspraktijk hebben gevonden. Welke inzichten over de relatie tussen beleid en spelsimulaties blijven overeind en welke zijn toe aan een opfrissing of herziening? Populistische partijen als de PVV, TON en de LPF worden vaak in een adem genoemd met een nieuwe culturele scheidslijn die tegenwoordig het Nederlandse politieke landschap verdeelt: die tussen de voor- en tegenstanders van het in ijltempo voortschrijdende proces van globalisering en europeanisering. Hebben we hier inderdaad te maken met een nieuwe scheidslijn? Of moeten we Geert Wilders en de zijnen eerder zien als de nieuwe spreekbuizen van een oude onderklasse? Introduction: Assessing the EU’s performance in international institutions: conceptual framework and core findings

This article introduces the analytical framework of the collection on the performance of the EU in international institutions and summarizes its main findings. We focus on the role of the EU in the decision-making within international organizations and regimes as a major locus of global governance. We suggest unpacking the concept of EU performance into four core elements: effectiveness (goal achievement);relevance (of the EU for its priority stakeholders); efficiency (ratio between outputs accomplished and costs incurred); and financial/resource viability (the ability of the performing organization to raise the funds required). Based on the case studies of the collection, the findings presented in the second part of the article relate to the identified core elements of performance with a particular emphasis on the dimensions of ‘effectiveness’ and ‘relevance’. Most notably, the EU appears, on balance and over the past two decades, to have become much more relevant for its member states when acting within international institutions. Moreover, the findings highlight four particular factors explaining EU performance in international institutions: the legal framework conditions (including the relevant changes that the Lisbon Treaty has brought about), domestic EU politics, the status of relevant EU legislation and policies, and the international context
