Orthogonal and symplectic Yangians and Yang-Baxter R-operators
Yang-Baxter R operators symmetric with respect to the orthogonal and
symplectic algebras are considered in an uniform way. Explicit forms for the
spinorial and metaplectic R operators are obtained. L operators, obeying the
RLL relation with the orthogonal or symplectic fundamental R matrix, are
considered in the interesting cases, where their expansion in inverse powers of
the spectral parameter is truncated. Unlike the case of special linear algebra
symmetry the truncation results in additional conditions on the Lie algebra
generators of which the L operators is built and which can be fulfilled in
distinguished representations only. Further, generalised L operators, obeying
the modified RLL relation with the fundamental R matrix replaced by the
spinorial or metaplectic one, are considered in the particular case of linear
dependence on the spectral parameter. It is shown how by fusion with respect to
the spinorial or metaplectic representation these first order spinorial L
operators reproduce the ordinary L operators with second order truncation.Comment: 24 page
Collaboration in the Semantic Grid: a Basis for e-Learning
The CoAKTinG project aims to advance the state of the art in collaborative mediated spaces for the Semantic Grid. This paper presents an overview of the hypertext and knowledge based tools which have been deployed to augment existing collaborative environments, and the ontology which is used to exchange structure, promote enhanced process tracking, and aid navigation of resources before, after, and while a collaboration occurs. While the primary focus of the project has been supporting e-Science, this paper also explores the similarities and application of CoAKTinG technologies as part of a human-centred design approach to e-Learning
Angular-dependence of magnetization switching for a multi-domain dot: experiment and simulation
We have measured the in-plane angular variation of nucleation and
annihilation fields of a multi-domain magnetic single dot with a microsquid.
The dots are Fe/Mo(110) self-assembled in UHV, with sub-micron size and a
hexagonal shape. The angular variations were quantitatively reproduced by
micromagnetic simulations. Discontinuities in the variations are observed, and
shown to result from bifurcations related to the interplay of the non-uniform

Dynamics of magnetic domain wall motion after nucleation: Dependence on the wall energy
The dynamics of magnetic domain wall motion in the FeNi layer of a
FeNi/Al2O3/Co trilayer has been investigated by a combination of x-ray magnetic
circular dichroism, photoelectron emission microscopy, and a stroboscopic
pump-probe technique. The nucleation of domains and subsequent expansion by
domain wall motion in the FeNi layer during nanosecond-long magnetic field
pulses was observed in the viscous regime up to the Walker limit field. We
attribute an observed delay of domain expansion to the influence of the domain
wall energy that acts against the domain expansion and that plays an important

Formative peer assessment in a CSCL environment
In this case study our aim was to gain more insight in the possibilities of qualitative formative peer assessment in a computer supported collaborative learning (CSCL) environment. An approach was chosen in which peer assessment was operationalised in assessment assignments and assessment tools that were embedded in the course material. The course concerned a higher education case-based virtual seminar, in which students were asked to conduct research and write a report in small multidisciplinary teams. The assessment assignments contained the discussion of assessment criteria, the assessment of a group report of a fellow group, and writing an assessment report. A list of feedback rules was one of the assessment tools. A qualitative oriented study was conducted, focussing on the attitude of students towards peer assessment and practical use of peer assessment assignments and tools. Results showed that students’ attitude towards peer assessment was positive and that assessment assignments had added value. However, not all students fulfilled all assessment assignments. Recommendations for implementation of peer assessment in CSCL environments as well as suggestions for future research are discussed
Factorization of R-matrix and Baxter's Q-operator
The general rational solution of the Yang-Baxter equation with the symmetry
algebra sl(2) can be represented as the product of the simpler building blocks
denoted as R-operators. The R-operators are constructed explicitly and have
simple structure. Using the R-operators we construct the two-parametric
Baxter's Q-operator for the generic inhomogeneous periodic XXX spin chain. In
the case of homogeneous XXX spin chain it is possible to reduce the general
Q-operator to the much simpler one-parametric operator.Comment: 17 page
Three-dimensional magnetic flux-closure patterns in mesoscopic Fe islands
We have investigated three-dimensional magnetization structures in numerous
mesoscopic Fe/Mo(110) islands by means of x-ray magnetic circular dichroism
combined with photoemission electron microscopy (XMCD-PEEM). The particles are
epitaxial islands with an elongated hexagonal shape with length of up to 2.5
micrometer and thickness of up to 250 nm. The XMCD-PEEM studies reveal
asymmetric magnetization distributions at the surface of these particles.
Micromagnetic simulations are in excellent agreement with the observed magnetic
structures and provide information on the internal structure of the
magnetization which is not accessible in the experiment. It is shown that the
magnetization is influenced mostly by the particle size and thickness rather
than by the details of its shape. Hence, these hexagonal samples can be
regarded as model systems for the study of the magnetization in thick,
mesoscopic ferromagnets.Comment: 12 pages, 11 figure
Determination of tungsten sources in the JET-ILW divertor by spectroscopic imaging in the presence of a strong plasma continuum
The identification of the sources of atomic tungsten and the measurement of their radiation distribution in front of all plasma-facing components has been performed in JET with the help of two digital cameras with the same two-dimensional view, equipped with interference filters of different bandwidths centred on the W I (400.88 nm) emission line. A new algorithm for the subtraction of the continuum radiation was successfully developed and is now used to evaluate the W erosion even in the inner divertor region where the strong recombination emission is dominating over the tungsten emission. Analysis of W sputtering and W redistribution in the divertor by video imaging spectroscopy with high spatial resolution for three different magnetic configurations was performed. A strong variation of the emission of the neutral tungsten in toroidal direction and corresponding W erosion has been observed. It correlates strongly with the wetted area with a maximal W erosion at the edge of the divertor tile.EURATOM 63305
Parton interactions in the Bjorken limit of QCD
We consider the Bjorken limit in the framework of the effective action
approach and discuss its similarities to the Regge limit. The proposed
effective action allows for a rather simple calculation of the known evolution
kernels. We represent the result in terms of two-parton interaction operators
involving gluon and quark operators depending on light-ray position and
