In this increasing globalized and internationalized world, teaching techniques reported to be effective in one country are more frequently adopted for use in other countries. However, these techniques may not yield similar effects across educational contexts. This article reports a study that (i) explored teaching techniques that teachers in commercial English Language Centres (CELC) in Southern Vietnam used to promote children’s learning motivation and engagement, (ii) examined why they adopted these teaching techniques and (iii) identified challenges associated with the use of these techniques. Content analysis of 21 semi-structured interviews with teachers from four CELC showed that teachers were frequently using games, picture flashcards, videos, miming, role play and storytelling for the mentioned purpose. The study also revealed several challenges for the use of these techniques associated with (i) teachers considering teaching in CELC as an extra job, (ii) educational norms and values ingrained in stakeholders’ perception, and (iii) practicality issues involved in their teaching. The article highlights that teachers’ adoption of a teaching technique was driven by their beliefs about its effectiveness, about expectations of important stakeholders, and about contextual factors that may affect the use of the technique

    DNA Hypermethylation in Breast Cancer

    Get PDF
Cancer development is a complex process with multiple steps. Many factors, including radiation, chemicals, viruses, genetic and epigenetic changes, lead to abnormal proliferation of a single cell, which results in the outgrowth of a population of clonal-derived tumour cells. It has established that DNA hypermethylation, an epigenetic mechanism that occurred by the addition of a methyl group at 5′ position of the pyrimidine ring of cytosine residues at CpG islands through the action of DNA methyltransferase enzymes, has been considered as the cause of human tumorigenesis, including breast cancer development. Moreover, DNA hypermethylation holds a promising application as a potential biomarker for the early detection, prognosis and prediction of drug sensitivity in cancer. Therefore, this chapter focuses on the description and exemplification of the DNA hypermethylation changes, particularly, highlight the DNA hypermethylation as a potential biomarker applied in predictive, diagnostic, prognostic and therapeutic monitoring of breast cancer

Objective: The infection of high-risk human papillomavirus (HPV) genotypes, particularly HPV-16 and HPV-18, is known to cause cervical cancer (CC); however, aberrant DNA methylation of death-associated protein kinase (DAPK), a member of tumor suppressor gene family, are required for cervical tumorigenesis. The aim of our study was to evaluate the hypermethylation frequency of CpG belonged to DAPK promoter, in Vietnamese patients, as well as to study about the association between hypermethylation, and high-risk HPV infection leading to CC.Methods: Methylation-specific-polymerase chain reaction (MSP) was performed to analyze methylation status from 109 liquid-based papanicolaous test samples, collected from local hospital and were identified whether HPV/or non-HPV, high-risk/low-risk HPV infection, then was confirmed by sequencing. Results: In the case of high-risk HPV infection, the frequency of DAPK gene hypermethylation was 66.67% (24 of 36 cases). Meanwhile, low hypermethylation status was found in low-risk and non-HPV infection, counting for 12.0% (3 of 25 cases), 2.1% (1 of 48 cases), respectively. Significant association of DAPK hypermethylation with high-risk, low-risk, and non-HPV infection was observed (p<0.0001). The DAPK hypermethylation increased the possibility to CC in the case of high-risk HPV infected with high incidence: Odds ratio=34.5 (95% confidence interval [CI]=10.15-117.23, p<0.01), relative risk=12.2 (95% CI=4.56-32.42, p<0.01).Conclusion: Based on those data, it suggested that MSP carried out on noninvasive samples will lead to potential method to screening, diagnosis and early diagnosis of cervical carcinoma in Vietnamese population

Haploid plants achieve through androgenesis or gynogenesis. In gynogenesis method, the ovary or ovule are used as explants induct haploid plants. Female flower one day before flowering of Cucumis sativus L. are collected. Cold pretreatment of ovaries at 4°C up to 24 hours and culture under dark conditions. Significantly enhanced callus induction response is compared with cultures under 4-week cultured on CBM medium supplemented with various concentration of TDZ 0.01-0.04 mg/L. After 4 weeks, ovaries are transferred to medium with kinetin 0.05 – 0.20 mg/L. Then, ovaries were transferred to medium supplemented with BA: IAA 3:1. Finally, green ovaries were transferred to BA 1.5 mg/L and GA3 1.5 mg/L. The results showed that ovary induction has best affected on CBM with TDZ 0.03 mg/L with 11 callus/sample. Ovaries developed on kinetin 0.1 mg/L with 7.4 callus/sample. Ovaries become green and had leaves and roots formation on BA: IAA (3 mg/L: 1 mg/L). 11 plantlets were harvested from ovary culture after 12-week culture on CBM supplemented with BA 1.5 mg/L and GA3 1.5 mg/L

    Get PDF
Logistics is a type of service that plays an important role in promoting the country's economic growth. In addition, it is also of great significance to the transport sector in Vietnam in dealing with the challenges of traffic congestion in large cities. In Vietnam today, logistics services are growing. However, there is one major limitation that still exists, that is freight costs are still high. This does not meet the best requirements of customers. There are many reasons for this problem, one of the reasons is that trucks only carry one-way cargo, but there are no goods to ship backwards. The paper studies the application of LOGIVAN smart transport model in developing Logistics services in Vietnam today. Research results show that LOGIVAN transport model is the optimal model in solving the problem of empty cars in the transport of goods when they go back to the place of departure. This helps minimize Logistics costs for businesses, increases income for drivers and leads towards sustainable transport development. LOGIVAN develops two platform solutions for goods owners and vehicle owners. Accordingly, the author of the article confirms the quality of this model in developing Logistics services in Vietnam and guide the operation for users via applications on personal mobile devices at the same time. Effect of Molecular Charge Asymmetry on Even-to-odd Ratio of High-order Harmonic Generation

    Get PDF
Recently, asymmetric molecules, such as HeH2+_2^+, CO, OCS, HCl, have been evolved much attention since its rich information in the high-order harmonic generation (HHG), whose ratio of adjacent even and odd harmonics characterizes the asymmetry of molecules. In this paper, we study the dependence of even-to-odd ratio on the asymmetric parameters, in particular, the nuclear-charge ratio, and the permanent dipole, by exploiting a simple but general model of asymmetric molecules Z1Z2Z_1Z_2 subjected to an intense laser pulse. The HHG is simulated by the numerical method of solving the time-dependent Schrödinger equation. We find out that this even-to-odd ratio strongly depends on the nuclear-charge ratio. In particular, the even-to-odd ratio reaches its maximum when the nuclear-charge ratio is about from 0.5 to 0.7. Besides, the dependence on the permanent dipole of the even-to-odd ratio has a non-trivial law. To explain, we calculate the analytical ratio of the transition dipole according to the emission of even and odd harmonics, and this ratio is well consistent with the even-to-odd ratio of the HHG
