A Borel-Cantelli lemma for intermittent interval maps

We consider intermittent maps T of the interval, with an absolutely continuous invariant probability measure \mu. Kim showed that there exists a sequence of intervals A_n such that \sum \mu(A_n)=\infty, but \{A_n\} does not satisfy the dynamical Borel-Cantelli lemma, i.e., for almost every x, the set \{n : T^n(x)\in A_n\} is finite. If \sum \Leb(A_n)=\infty, we prove that \{A_n\} satisfies the Borel-Cantelli lemma. Our results apply in particular to some maps T whose correlations are not summable.Comment: 7 page

Counting independent sets in triangle-free graphs

Ajtai, Koml\'os, and Szemer\'edi proved that for sufficiently large tt every triangle-free graph with nn vertices and average degree tt has an independent set of size at least n100tlogt\frac{n}{100t}\log{t}. We extend this by proving that the number of independent sets in such a graph is at least 2(1/2400)ntlog2t. 2^{(1/2400)\frac{n}{t}\log^2{t}}. This result is sharp for infinitely many t,nt,n apart from the constant. An easy consequence of our result is that there exists c>0c'>0 such that every nn-vertex triangle-free graph has at least 2cnlogn 2^{c'\sqrt n \log n} independent sets. We conjecture that the exponent above can be improved to n(logn)3/2\sqrt{n}(\log{n})^{3/2}. This would be sharp by the celebrated result of Kim which shows that the Ramsey number R(3,k)R(3,k) has order of magnitude k2/logkk^2/\log k

In the adaptive reuse of the Paisley Mill, the intent of the design was to reflect the original use and construction of the mill. Additions and modifications were minimized and struct1Jral elements were exposed. The exterior elements in the renovation replaces a portion of he original painted wood siding with glazing which provides a connection for the interior spaces to the environment. allowing t-he green wall to reflect the surrounding woodlands. The new construction mainly involves the addition of this curtain wall assembly in select bays. The glazing continues from the roof to the ground floor allowing light and views between the interior and exterior. As the original cladding is retained on the exterior, the exposed structural members increase the presence of the building\u27s original construction on the interior, reflecting t-he long history of the building. This section shows the details of these floors and connections
