PhD ThesisAdopting a contingency perspective, this study employs a sequential mixed research design using a questionnaire survey and case studies to explore performance management systems (PMASs) in relation to contingent variables, namely perceived environmental uncertainty (PEU), task uncertainty and organisational culture, and organisational performance in listed Vietnamese organisations. Quantitative analyses indicate that NFPMs are adopted because these measures help managers to obtain information about different dimensions and areas of organisational performance. Although NFPMs are not used to a great extent in formulating and implementing business strategy, they are used to achieve pre-set organisational performance targets through tracking progression against these targets. Concerning organisational structure, departmental managers in today’s Vietnamese context are delegated more authority to make decisions within their departments than they were before. These managers have a relatively high level of involvement in setting targets for their firm performance. Moreover, a highly objective style of performance evaluation and rewards was evidenced. Qualitative analyses also suggest a lack of cohesion between different control elements of PMASs. Integrated findings indicate substantial impacts of PEU and task uncertainty on PMAS practices as motiving variables for changes in these practices. However, organisational culture characterised by relatively high power distance, collectivism and uncertainty avoidance hinder such changes. Simultaneously, new cultural practices, namely outcome-oriented culture and innovation-oriented culture, have emerged in Vietnam. Quantitative findings indicate that only three PMAS practices, namely the adoption of NFPMs, the decentralisation of decision-making and the participation of lower managers in setting targets for organisational performance, positively impact upon organisational performance. Moreover, only interactions between PEU and task uncertainty and the two latter PMAS practices result in improvement of organisational performance. The qualitative results suggest that changes in PMAS practices result in better organisational performance through enhancing the decision-making quality and creating both extrinsic and intrinsic motivation for individuals.Vietnamese Government and in particular Vietnam International Education Development for their financial suppor

THE MILITARY ART OF THE COMMUNIST PARTY OF VIETNAM IN THE RESISTANCE WAR AGAINST THE US IMPERIALISTS FOR NATIONAL SALVATION (1954 - 1975)

    Get PDF
The Communist Party of Vietnam’s military art in the resistance war against the U.S imperialists for national salvation is the continuation of Vietnam’s tradition of fighting the US to save the country. Over thousands of years of fighting to protect the Fatherland and liberate the nation, Vietnam has built an advanced and unique military art and ideology. Vietnam is a small country, often having to fight against an aggressive move with larger and stronger manpower. Therefore, how should Vietnam’s military art and thought develop in order to win the victory? A small country defeating a large country is a bitter contradiction and must face many difficulties and hardships. Solving this contradiction is a great creation, which requires very high intelligence and the art of excellence in war leadership. That is the uniqueness, the development, the characteristic of Vietnamese military thought and art.  Article visualizations

At the core of the study, it aims to make an in-depth and critical interpretation based on the data analysis through codes. The codes vary in the length of the text to highly conceptual answers (given by four groups: control and experimental groups). The study advocates that proper science communication through art-informed collaboration should be considered to achieve sustainability outcomes. The findings are expected to develop and show how arts can influence and effectively communicate with young people as the future generation through creative and attractive narratives with proper knowledge of climate change adaptation. The study results may have implications for climate change policymakers

Piazza Di Ulivo: ARCE Patio Redesign

    Get PDF
Piazza de Ulivo was Phase 1 of a multi-quarter initiative to redesign and bring life to a patio space adjacent to Engineering West (Building 21) in Spring of 2020. Located within the central courtyard of Engineering West (Hasslein Garden), the patio space previously contained a senior project pergola that collapsed and has been removed. The remaining elements from this previous structure were an inverted moment frame consisting of five concrete columns and beams joining them. Additionally, a wooden bench with concrete pedestals remained under the shade of the existing olive tree. Desire within the Architectural Engineering (ARCE) department for the patio to not remain unused inspired a redesign to address issues with flooding and olive debris, while increasing usability and comfort within the space

Proposing a process for training online teaching competence for lecturers at higher education institutions

Online teaching has become an inevitable trend in education as technology and engineering advance. It is necessary to train and foster online teaching competence for lecturers at higher education institutions. This article uses the literature review and the theoretical method to analyze the existing proposals on models and frameworks of online teaching competency by many different authors worldwide. Based on the discovery of the commonalities and gaps between these perspectives combined with analyzing the characteristics of online teaching at the university level, the article proposes a framework of online teaching competencies for the higher education faculty along with relevant knowledge related to these competencies. This framework includes eight competencies with specific performance criteria. This article also builds a process for training online teaching competence for lecturers at higher education institutions. According to the PDCA deeming cycle, this process consists of three stages: planning, implementation and improvement to support lecturers in adapting to the virtual teaching environment.

The eulophid wasp, Anselmella malacia Xiao Huang, 2006 (Hymenoptera: Eulophidae), is reared from fruits of the water apple, Syzygium samarangense, and is reported as an important phytophagous developing as seed-eaters of Syzygium species in Malaysia. Analysing specimens of pest insects infested inside of pear-shaped fruits of the cultivated water apple, S. samarangense, in Dong Thap Province, South Vietnam, a total of four insect species were recorded as the important pests for fruits of six varieties of the cultivated water apples. The hymenoteran wasp, A. malacia, is recorded for the first time from Vietnam. Further evidence is needed to prove A. malacia being an invasive pest in Vietnam. The associated hymenopteran parasitoid assemblage with the fruit infested insect pests is also provided.

FABRICATION OF Fe3O4 MAGNETIC FLUID BY POLY (ACRYLIC ACID) FOR BIOMEDICAL APPLICATIONS

Fe3O4 nanosystems of different sizes were synthesized by thermal decomposition method in organic solvent. Magnetic fluid based on Fe3O4 nanoparticles was prepared by using poly acrylic acid (PAA) as a phase transfer agent. The structure, morphology and magnetic properties of samples were studied by: X-ray diffraction patterns (XRD), transmission electron microscope (TEM), and vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). XRD results indicated that all samples had spinel single phase structure with average crystaline size less than 15 nm. TEM images showed that the average size of samples were nearly equal to those of XRD. The highest value of saturation magnetization obtained at room temperature for the sample synthesized at optimal reaction time and temperature (2 hours and 298 oC, respectively) after phase transferring was 75 emu/g. The linkage between magnetic nanoparticles’ surface and functional groups of PAA was confirmed by FT-IR spectra. Simultaneously, the particle size and stability of magnetic fluid were evaluated by DLS and Zeta potential. These results demonstrated the narrow size distribution and high stability of nanosystem. The important point was that the phase transfer contributed to enhance of saturation magnetization of samples (about 5 % of the initial ones). Magnetic fluid based on Fe3O4 nanoparticles with high homogeneity, high saturation magnetization and good stability promised a potential application in biomedical, especially in magnetic hyperthermia and contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging

    Get PDF
The study is based on Chase 1994's approach to management capacity of head nurses and uses linear regression analysis to determine the relationship between the components of head nurses' management capacity with other influencing factors. The results show that factors such as age, seniority of management, degrees, seniority of work, and management degrees explain 39.1% of the change in professional capacity and 56% of the change in professional competence explaining 52% of the change in thinking ability, explaining 33% of the change in leadership skills and explaining 34% of the change in management skills of financial management. The relationship between management seniority and professional skills is statistically significant and negatively correlated. The relationship between qualifications, working seniority and human resource management skills is statistically significant and positively correlated. The relationship between qualifications, management degrees and thinking skills of head nurses is statistically significant and positively correlated. In addition, the research results also show that the relationship between the influencing factors and the components of the management capacity of head nurses is not statistically significant
