Agile Instructional Design for Learning: A Case Example of Agile Master Course (AMC) Development

Today’s higher education institutions need to “produce quality and relevant learning materials, capable of being reused and adapted in different learning situations” (Arimoto & Barroca, 2015). Agile principles and practices are being used by instructional design teams and are geared toward being adaptive and creative.https://digitalscholarship.unlv.edu/btp_expo/1008/thumbnail.jp

Determination of the glycemic and insulinemic indexes of raisins in three populations

There are only limited published data on the glycemic index (GI) and insulin index of raisins. Further, the GI and insulin index of raisins have not been determined in endurance athletes or in prediabetic persons. The objective of this study was to determine both the GI and the insulin index of raisins, and to evaluate if these indexes are similar when measured in different populations. The study groups consisted of 10 healthy sedentary subjects (S), 11 endurance athletes (A), and 11 prediabetic individuals (P). Subjects consumed 50 g of available carbohydrates from raisins and from a glucose solution on two separate occasions. Serum glucose and insulin concentrations were measured from capillary finger-stick blood samples at baseline and at 15, 30, 45, 60, 90, and 120 min (& 150 and 180 min for P) postprandially. The GI of raisins was low (GI55) in the S (49.4±7.4) and P (49.6±4.7) groups and was moderate (GI 55-69) in the A group (62.3±10.5), but there were no differences among the groups (P=0.437). The insulin index of raisins were 47.3±9.4, 51.9±6.5, and 54.4±9.3 for the S, A, and P groups, respectively. On average, the A group secreted 2-2.5-fold less insulin per gram of carbohydrate compared with the S and P groups, respectively (P<0.05). In summary, raisins are a low to moderate GI food and their insulin index is proportionate to their GI, regardless of the population studied. Athletes were able to normalize postprandial glycemia with lower insulin secretion.Funded by the California Raisin Marketing Boar

Sulforaphane treatment for autism spectrum disorder

    Get PDF
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is defined as a neurodevelopmental condition characterized by social communication impairment, delayed development, social function deficit, and repetitive behaviors. The Center for Disease Control reports an increase in ASD diagnosis rates every year. This systematic review evaluated the use of sulforaphane (SFN) therapy as a potential treatment option for individuals with ASD. PubMed.gov, PubMed Central, Natural Medicines, BoardVitals, Google Scholar and Medline were searched for studies measuring the effects of SFN on behavior and cognitive function. All five clinical trials included in this systematic review showed a significant positive correlation between SFN use and ASD behavior and cognitive function. The current evidence shows with minimal side effects observed, SFN appears to be a safe and effective treatment option for treating ASD

The reason for the study on the determinants of welfare policies governments was to prove that the behavioral factors of local political participants are effective prescriptions for solving community problems. The reason is to recognize the need and importance of welfare policy decisions that can adapt to the new era and regional environmental changes. As a result, we try to develop indicators of productive well-being that can actively respond to the demand for change to improve the quality of life of local residents. The development of these indicators means that efforts must be made to develop knowledge that can build a well-being infrastructure in rural areas in the global era of coexistence. Therefore, it opened a new chapter in the provinces and recognized the importance of behavioral factors of the participants in the formulation of policies to improve the wellfare of local residents

    Customs Import Declaration Datasets

Given the huge volume of cross-border flows, effective and efficient control of trade becomes more crucial in protecting people and society from illicit trade. However, limited accessibility of the transaction-level trade datasets hinders the progress of open research, and lots of customs administrations have not benefited from the recent progress in data-based risk management. In this paper, we introduce an import declaration dataset to facilitate the collaboration between domain experts in customs administrations and researchers from diverse domains, such as data science and machine learning. The dataset contains 54,000 artificially generated trades with 22 key attributes, and it is synthesized with conditional tabular GAN while maintaining correlated features. Synthetic data has several advantages. First, releasing the dataset is free from restrictions that do not allow disclosing the original import data. The fabrication step minimizes the possible identity risk which may exist in trade statistics. Second, the published data follow a similar distribution to the source data so that it can be used in various downstream tasks. Hence, our dataset can be used as a benchmark for testing the performance of any classification algorithm. With the provision of data and its generation process, we open baseline codes for fraud detection tasks, as we empirically show that more advanced algorithms can better detect fraud.Comment: Datasets: https://github.com/Seondong/Customs-Declaration-Dataset

PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to examine the association between objectively measured physical activity and metabolic syndrome in Korean adults and older adults. METHODS A total of 2,191 adults and older adults from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey from 2014 to 2017 were analyzed. Participants were categorized into three groups (‘Inactive’, ‘Active’, ‘Highly active’) according to physical activity guidelines. A chi-square test was performed to confirm whether the physical activity guidelines were met according to metabolic syndrome and the difference between metabolic syndrome according to age group. Logistic regression was used to predict the relationship between physical activity and metabolic syndrome. RESULTS The prevalence of metabolic syndrome differed according to whether physical activity guidelines were met in older adults, and the prevalence of metabolic syndrome and its risk factors varied according to age group. Compared to the Inactive group, the odds ratios (OR) for metabolic syndrome were 0.73 (95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.56–0.95) and 0.65 (95% CI: 0.47–0.88) in adults in the Active and Highly active groups, respectively; and 0.46 (95% CI: 0.28–0.78) and 0.39 (95% CI: 0.22–0.69) in older adults in the Active and Highly active groups, respectively. CONCLUSIONS As the level of physical activity increased, the OR of having metabolic syndrome and its risk factors decreased: this relationship was stronger in older adults than in adults. Therefore, physical activity guidelines should be met to prevent and manage metabolic syndrome
