Spatial-temporal Vehicle Re-identification
Vehicle re-identification (ReID) in a large-scale camera network is important
in public safety, traffic control, and security. However, due to the appearance
ambiguities of vehicle, the previous appearance-based ReID methods often fail
to track vehicle across multiple cameras. To overcome the challenge, we propose
a spatial-temporal vehicle ReID framework that estimates reliable camera
network topology based on the adaptive Parzen window method and optimally
combines the appearance and spatial-temporal similarities through the fusion
network. Based on the proposed methods, we performed superior performance on
the public dataset (VeRi776) by 99.64% of rank-1 accuracy. The experimental
results support that utilizing spatial and temporal information for ReID can
leverage the accuracy of appearance-based methods and effectively deal with
appearance ambiguities.Comment: 10 pages, 6 figure
Influence of prohexadione-calcium, trinexapac-ethyl and hexaconazole on lodging characteristic and gibberellin biosynthesis of rice (Oryza sativa L.)
We investigated the influence of prohexadione-calcium (Pro-Ca), trinexapac-ethyl (TNE) and hexaconazole (HX) on lodging and gibberellin (GA) biosynthesis pathway of rice cultivar, Hwayeongbyeo. It was observed that these novel synthetic growth retardants suppressed lodging of rice under field conditions through blocking GA biosynthesis pathway. These growth retarding chemicals were applied at basic (20 uM) and elevated (40 uM) rates either 10 days before heading (10 DBH) or 5 days before heading (5 DBH). We found that Pro-Ca, TNE and their combined application (Pro-Ca + TNE) were most effective in decreasing rice length and lodging index, when applied at 10 DBH. Similarly, the endogenous bioactive GA1 contents of rice significantly declined with application of Pro-Ca, TNE and Pro-Ca + TNE, while they were less effected by basic and elevated rates of HX as compared to the control. The growth retardants were more effective in decreasing rice lodging and blocking GA biosynthesis when applied in elevated rates. The levels of the endogenous gibberellins in rice shoots were measured by GC/MS-SIM using 2H2-labeled gibberellins as internal standards. Effect of these synthetic chemicals on growth and GA inhibition were stronger initially but eroded rapidly under field conditions. It was thus concluded that Pro-Ca and TNE were most effective in reducing plant length and suppressing lodging of rice crop under field conditions, where lodging is a major constraint to higher productivity.Key words: Growth retardants, plant growth, gibberellin biosynthesis, lodging index, rice
Hemophagocytic Syndrome in a Patient with Acute Tubulointerstitial Nephritis Secondary to Hepatitis A Virus Infection
Hepatitis A virus (HAV) infection is generally a self-limited disease, but the infection in adults can be serious, to be often complicated by acute kidney injury (AKI) and rarely by virus-associated hemophagocytic syndrome (VAHS). Our patient, a 48-yr-old man, was diagnosed with HAV infection complicated by dialysis-dependent AKI. His kidney biopsy showed acute tubulointerstitial nephritis with massive infiltration of activated macrophages and T cells, and he progressively demonstrated features of VAHS. With hemodialysis and steroid treatment, he was successfully recovered
17-Oxo-docosahexaenoic acid induces Nrf2-mediated expression of heme oxygenase-1 in mouse skin in vivo and in cultured murine epidermal cells
Recently, growing attention has been given to new classes of bioactive lipid mediators derived from omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids, such as docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), especially in the context of their role as endogenous signal modulators. One such molecule is 17-oxo-DHA, generated from DHA by the action of COX2 and a dehydrogenase. The redox-sensitive transcription factor, Nrf2 plays a key role in cellular stress responses. In the present study, the effects of 17-oxo-DHA on Nrf2-mediated expression of cytoprotective enzymes were examined in mouse skin in vivo and cultured murine epidermal JB6 cells. Topical application of 17-oxo-DHA markedly elevated the nuclear localization of Nrf2 and expression of heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) and NAD(P) H:quinone oxidoreductase-1 in hairless mouse skin. In contrast to 17-oxo-DHA, the non-electrophilic metabolic precursor 17-hydroxy-DHA was a much weaker inducer of Nrf2 activation and its target protein expression. Likewise, 17-oxo-DHA significantly enhanced nuclear translocation and transcriptional activity of Nrf2 with concomitant upregulation of HO-1 expression in cultured JB6 cells. 17-Oxo-DHA was a much stronger inducer of Nrf2-mediated antioxidant response than its parent molecule, DHA. HO-1 expression was abolished in Nrf2 knockdown JB6 cells or embryo fibroblasts from Nrf2 knock out mice. 17-Oxo-DHA also markedly reduced the level of Keap1 protein by inducing ubiquitination. Mutation of Cys151 and Cys273 in Keap1 abrogated 17-oxo-DHA-induced ubiquitination and proteasome-mediated degradation of Keap1 as well as HO-1 expression, suggesting that these cysteine residues are putative sites for 17-oxo-DHA binding. Further, Keap1 degradation stimulated by 17-oxo-DHA coincided with accumulation of the autophagy substrate, p62/SQSTM1.
