Wine About It: Why Croatia\u27s Historic Wine Prosek Should be Granted A Protected Designation of Origin by the European Union
Land has been one of the most important resources for as long as history tells us. Land is one of the main causes of war, with leaders of countries wanting to conquer new territory for various reasons, such as the natural resources that exist there, or for the history associated with it. In another context, land is often associated with the idea of home, and the heritage that comes along with that. In Europe, specifically within the European Union, many countries and their constituents are proud of their unique foods and beverages
Adjustment of Rural and Urban Residents in Five Retirement Homes in Northeastern Wisconsin
The need for this study is indicated by gaps in gerontological research and information. Until the last twenty years, studies were not often made of the many aspects of the aged in society; and currently, many questions in this field remain unanswered. Some studies have dealt with the physical setting of the retirement homes, but the individual\u27s perception of the home has not been studied. The actual physical conditions of the homes are inconsequential to this study because the residents\u27 perception of the situation· is critical to adjustment. This will provide the focus for this study. The objectives of this study are:
1. to determine which environmental factors in the retirement homes significantly facilitate resident adjustment.
2. to determine which background variables such as sex, education, and proximity of relatives will contribute to the resident\u27s adequate adjustment to the retirement- center.
3. to determine if place of residence prior to entering the institution will affect the individual\u27s adjustment to the institution.
4. to determine if males or females make a better adjustment to the retirement center
Nondestructive investigation on the 17-18th centuries Sicilian jewelry collection at the Messina regional museum using mobile Raman equipment
In recent years, the use of mobile Raman equipment as an archeological, artistic, and conservation tool has largely increased due to the possibility to obtain quick and nondestructive compositional analysis on precious, vulnerable, and unique art objects. In particular, art and archeological museums can take great advantage in carrying out in situ measurements in short times and without moving the artifacts. In this work, we report on the Raman measurements carried out by portable instruments on an important jewelry collection dated back to 17th-18th centuries and preserved in the Messina Regional Museum (Sicily, Italy) with the goal to verify the identification of the gems and gemological materials of the collection, previously made by conservators. Although most of the previous identifications were confirmed, some important reclassifications have been proposed. Finally, interesting and unusual combinations of different materials were detected in some jewels
Development of a Standardized Set of Patient-centered Outcomes for Advanced Prostate Cancer: An International Effort for a Unified Approach
AbstractBackgroundThere are no universally monitored outcomes relevant to men with advanced prostate cancer, making it challenging to compare health outcomes between populations.ObjectiveWe sought to develop a standard set of outcomes relevant to men with advanced prostate cancer to follow during routine clinical care.Design, setting, and participantsThe International Consortium for Health Outcomes Measurement assembled a multidisciplinary working group to develop the set.Outcome measurements and statistical analysisWe used a modified Delphi method to achieve consensus regarding the outcomes, measures, and case mix factors included. Results and limitationsThe 25 members of the multidisciplinary international working group represented academic and nonacademic centers, registries, and patients. Recognizing the heterogeneity of men with advanced prostate cancer, the group defined the scope as men with all stages of incurable prostate cancer (metastatic and biochemical recurrence ineligible for further curative therapy). We defined outcomes important to all men, such as overall survival, and measures specific to subgroups, such as time to metastasis. Measures gathered from clinical data include measures of disease control. We also identified patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs), such as degree of urinary, bowel, and erectile dysfunction, mood symptoms, and pain control.ConclusionsThe international multidisciplinary group identified clinical data and PROMs that serve as a basis for international health outcome comparisons and quality-of-care assessments. The set will be revised annually.Patient summaryOur international group has recommended a standardized set of patient-centered outcomes to be followed during routine care for all men with advanced prostate cancer
