Scope of ornamental fisheries in snow fed rivers of Uttarakhand - Overview

Upland rivers of hills of Uttarakhand are unique in its ecosystem and biodiversity. These waters possess various varieties of ornamental fishes. The present study focuses on Scope of ornamental fisheries in snow fed rivers of Uttarakhand, along with challenges and opportunities. Besides the availability of resources peoples are not that much aware of ornamental fisheries of this region and these resources are yet not developed. The use of destructive fishing methods, habitat destruction leads to diversity destruction of hills stream fishes. As theseresources does not comprise fisheries of commercial importance due to sparse biota and low thermal scale, slow growth and very low natural food availability So, Directorate of Cold Water Fisheries is actively working in the field of survey and brood stock management of ornamental fish resources of cold water. Four hundred live cold water fishes including exotic gold and koi carp are being maintained at DCFR main complex for study and breeding trials. The recreational activities by fisheries department like ranching, sport fisheries development and development of ornamental fisheries of this region can lead to socioeconomic upliftment of hilly people and development of cold water ornamental fisheries in the state

Coexistent Intracerebral and Subdural Hemorrhage : A case Report

Subdural and Intracerebral Hemorrhage, occuring simultaneously in a patient is a very rare condition. The few case reports found in literature occurred in situations of trauma, coagulopathy, CNS malignancy and in dialysis dependant patients. We report one such case where both conditions coexisted, in the background of poorly controlled hypertension. The possible pathogenesis in this case is discussed

Use of transesterified 1,3-diketoesters in the synthesis of trisubstituted pyrazoles and their biological screening

Starting from 2-acetylbenzofuran derivatives 1a-d, methyl/ethyl 4-substituted/unsubstituted benzofuran-2-yl)-2,4-dioxobutanoate 2a-d and 3a-d have been synthesized by Claisen’s condensation reaction with diethyloxalate. The transesterified product, 1,3-diketoester 2a-d on condensation with phenyl hydrazine undergo cyclization to afford the corresponding methyl 5-(substituted/unsubstituted benzofuran-2-yl)-1-phenyl-1H-pyrazole-3-carboxylate 4a-d, which upon further condensation with hydrazine hydrate yielded 5-(substituted/unsubstituted benzofuran-2-yl)-1-phenyl-1H-pyrazole-3-carbohydrazide 5a-d. The structures of the newly synthesized compounds 2a-d, 3a-d, 4a-d and 5a-d were characterized by their elemental analysis and spectral studies such as IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR and MS. All the synthesized compounds were screened for their antimicrobial activity. Most of the synthesized compounds showed high sensitivity against the selected bacteria and fungi at various concentrations.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.4314/bcse.v27i1.
