INFECTION RATE AND CHEMOTHERAPY OF VARIOUS HELMINTHS IN GOATS IN AND AROUND LAHORE
The current study was carried out to find out the infection rate of gastrointestinal tract (GIT) helminths and its association with diarrhoea in goats in Lahore, Pakistan. For this purpose, 300 faecal samples from goats suffering from diarrhoea presented at the Outdoor Hospital, Department of Clinical Medicine and Surgery, UVAS Lahore and various private as well as government hospitals located in Lahore were examined coprologically for the presence of helminths. The result revealed that an overall infection rate of GIT helminths was 63.33% in goats. When compared the class wise infection rate, highest infection rate of nematodes (42.67%) was observed, followed by trematodes (16.67%) and cestodes (4%). The efficacy of Ricobendazole was observed to be 62, 96 and 98% at day 3, 7 and 14 of treatment, respectively. The efficacy of Ricobendazole was higher than Albendazole (46, 83 and 94% at day 3, 7 and 14, respectively). Lowest efficacy of garlic powder against helminth parasites was observed (13, 28 and 34% at day 3, 7 and 14, respectively). It was concluded that Ricobendazole is the most effective drugs against helminths in goats
Ziziphus mauritiana leaf extract emulsion for skin rejuvenation
Purpose: To formulate stable water in oil (W/O) emulsion containing hydroalcoholic crude extract of Ziziphus mauritiana leaves for skin rejuvenation.Methods: Placebo (base) without any plant extract and formulation with 4 % Ziziphus mauritiana extract were prepared by mixing. Samples of the emulsions were subjected to varying storage conditions, i.e., 8, 25, 40 oC and 40 oC + 75 % relative humidity for a period of 4 weeks to predict their stability. During this period, stability parameters, including liquefaction, phase separation, color, electrical conductivity, centrifugation and pH were monitored at specified time intervals. Skin rejuvenation was evaluated using 13 healthy human volunteers over a period of 8 weeks. During this period, various skin parameters such as erythema, melanin level, moisture content, elasticity and sebum content of the skin were evaluated at specified intervals.Results: Both the active formulation and placebo were stable in terms of liquifaction, phase separation and color at all the storage conditions of temperature and humidity. Active formulation showed statistically significant (p < 0.05) improvement in skin melanin as well as in skin moisture and sebum levels, whereas these properties were reduced or even absent in the placebo formulation (p > 0.05). Both active and placebo formulations changed skin elasticity and erythema significantly (p < 0.05).Conclusion: Ä°t is evident from the findings that the leaf extract of Ziziphus mauritiana possesses antiaging properties as well as exert skin lightening, moisturizing and viscoelastic effects on human skin.Keywords: Ziziphus mauritiana, Melanin, Erythema, Sebum, Skin-tlightening, Moistirizing, Anti-agin
Heat and mass transport behavior in bio-convective reactive flow of nanomaterials with Soret and Dufour characteristics.
The main of this article is to analyze magnetohydrodynamic bioconvective flow of Sutterby nanoliquid. Gyrotactic microorganism in presence of chemical reaction is addressed. Thermophoretic, magnetic field, random motion heat generation and radiation are discussed. Furthermore, Dufour and Soret behaviors are taken into account. Thermal conduction augmentation performance is discussed by utilization Boungiorno's model. Nonlinear PDE's (partial differential equations) are changed to ordinary system through appropriate variables. To developed computational solutions, we used the ND-solve technique. Results for temperature, microorganism field, liquid flow, and concentration are exhibited through different emerging variables. The physical quantities like Nusselt number, microorganism density number and solutal transport rate for various sundry variables are presented. Summary of main results re highlighted in the conclusions. Velocity reduces against magnetic field, while reverse trend seen for buoyancy ratio variable. Thermal distribution has an enhancing trend for magnetic and radiation variables. An enhancement in concentration distribution is seen for Soret number
Viability of Split Thickness Autogenous Skin Transplantation in Canine Distal Limb Reconstruction – An Experimental Evaluation
Distal limb reconstruction is complicated by the paucity of local tissues and the frequent association of orthopedic injury with cutaneous loss. Though, second-intention healing or skin stretching techniques are used for wounds involving less than a 30% circumference of the limb, however, skin grafts are recommended for reconstruction of larger superficial wounds. The present study was designed to clinically evaluate the viability of split thickness autogenous skin transplantation (STAST) in dogs. Standardized surgical defects of variable size i.e. 3×3, 4×4 and 5×5 sq cm were made on the left middle radial area (forearm) of 15 mongrel dogs assigned to Group A, B and C, respectively having 5 dogs each. Split thickness autogenous skin grafts were harvested from mid thorax and placed in these defects through several simple interrupted sutures. Results indicated a success rate of 80% with no clinical difference in the survival rate of three different sizes of grafts used. Hence, STAST can successfully be used for canine distal limb reconstruction
Printed closely spaced antennas loaded by linear stubs in a mimo style for portable wireless electronic devices
An easy-to-manufacture and efficient four-port-printed Multiple Input Multiple Output (MIMO) antenna operating across an ultra-wideband (UWB) region (2.9-13.6 GHz) is proposed and investigated here. The phenomenon of the polarization diversity is used to improve the isolation between MIMO antenna elements by deploying four orthogonal antenna elements. The proposed printed antenna (40 x 40 x 1.524 mm(3)) is made compact by optimizing the circular-shaped radiating components via vertical stubs on top of the initial design to maximally reduce unwanted interaction while placing them together in proximity. The measurements of the prototype MIMO antennas corroborate the simulation performance. The findings are compared to the recent relevant works presented in the literature to show that the proposed antenna is suitable for UWB MIMO applications. The proposed printed UWB MIMO antenna could be a good fit for compact portable wireless electronic devices
Incidence of Development of Hydrocephalus after Excision and Repair of Spina Bifida Aperta in Infants
Objective: To find out the incidence of hydrocephalus after excision and repair in infants presenting with Spina Bifida Aperta.
Materials & Methods: This prospective cohort study was conducted at the Pediatric Neurosurgery Department, Children Hospital & The Institute of Child Health, Lahore, Pakistan, from January 2021 to October 2021. A total of 62 infants of both genders presenting with spina bifida Aperta undergoing repair were included. Data of the patients, i.e., name, age, gender, head circumference, location, and width of the defect, accompanying bladder, limb anomalies, radiological, laboratory findings, and diagnosis (meningocele or meningomyelocele) were noted. Patients were followed postoperatively for 1-month, and the incidence of post-surgery hydrocephalus was noted.
Results: Out of 62 children, 36 (58.1%) were male and 24 (41.9%) female. The mean age was noted to be 138.82 days. Most children, 36 (58.1%), were found to have meningocele. The most frequent local meningocele/meningomyelocele was noted to be lumbosacral, 22 (35.5%). Post-surgery hydrocephalus was noted among 11 (17.1%) cases. No significant association of gender, age, head circumference, defect size, the maximum dimension, diagnosis (meningocele or meningomyelocele), or location was noted with post-surgery hydrocephalus among study cases (p > 0.05). No mortality was reported.
Conclusion: Meningomyelocele and lumbosacral location of the defect were among the prominent factors affecting the incidence of post-surgery hydrocephalus.
