    An investigation of viscous losses in radial inflow turbine nozzles

    A theoretical model is developed to predict losses in radial inflow turbine nozzles. The analysis is presented in two parts. The first one evaluates the losses which occur across the vaned region of the nozzle, while the second part deals with the losses which take place in the vaneless field. It is concluded that the losses in a radial nozzle would not be greatly affected by the addition of a large vaneless space

    QFT results for neutrino oscillations and New Physics

    The CP asymmetry in neutrino oscillations, assuming new physics at production and/or detection processes, is analyzed. We compute this CP asymmetry using the standard quantum field theory within a general new physics scenario that may generate new sources of CP and flavor violation. Well known results for the CP asymmetry are reproduced in the case of V -A operators, and additional contributions from new physics operators are derived. We apply this formalism to SUSY extensions of the Standard Model where the contributions from new operators could produce a CP asymmetry observable in the next generation of neutrino experiments.Comment: 6 pages, 3 figures, version to be published in Phys.Rev.

    Magnetic Response of Magnetospirillum Gryphiswaldense

    In this study we modelled and measured the U-turn trajectories of individual magnetotactic bacteria under the application of rotating magnetic fields, ranging in ampitude from 1 to 12 mT. The model is based on the balance between rotational drag and magnetic torque. For accurate verification of this model, bacteria were observed inside 5 m tall microfluidic channels, so that they remained in focus during the entire trajectory. From the analysis of hundreds of trajectories and accurate measurements of bacteria and magnetosome chain dimensions, we confirmed that the model is correct within measurement error. The resulting average rate of rotation of Magnetospirillum Gryphiswaldense is 0.74 +- 0.03 rad/mTs.Comment: 17 pages, 12 figure

    Role of Lean Accounting in Reduction Production Costs in Jordanian Manufacturing Corporation

    This study is created to identify the role of lean accounting in the reduction of production costs in Jordanian Manufacturing Corporation. To achieve the purposes of the study, the researchers develop a questionnaire consists of (72) items. The population of the study includes of managers of financial departments, workers in the department of human resources and information technology, and workers in the fields of sales, marketing and procurement. The questionnaire has been examined (56) Jordanian manufacturing corporations. The researchers in this work sent a random sample of the questionnaire for all components, which the total of questioners were (280) with average of (5) questionnaires for each company. A total of (242) questionnaires were retrieved, which (227) of them with percentage of 81% were capable of analyzing. On the other hand, (15) questionnaires incapable of analyzing because was uncompleted by the examiners. We can summarize the findings of the study in the following points; first, the most important one is the existence the role of adoption lean accounting in the reduction of production costs in Jordanian Manufacturing Corporation. The study concluded with some recommendations such as the activate the use of the value principle of Lean accounting was more high to eliminate waste and loss, and also to achieve maximum benefits for the company by finding solutions to the problems and obstacles that face the production process.     Deterministic and stochastic cooperation transitions in evolutionary games on networks

    Although the cooperative dynamics emerging from a network of interacting players has been exhaustively investigated, it is not yet fully understood when and how network reciprocity drives cooperation transitions. In this work, we investigate the critical behavior of evolutionary social dilemmas on structured populations by using the framework of master equations and Monte Carlo simulations. The developed theory describes the existence of absorbing, quasi-absorbing, and mixed strategy states and the transition nature, continuous or discontinuous, between the states as the parameters of the system change. In particular, when the decision-making process is deterministic, in the limit of zero effective temperature of the Fermi function, we find that the copying probabilities are discontinuous functions of the system's parameters and of the network degrees sequence. This may induce abrupt changes in the final state for any system size, in excellent agreement with the Monte Carlo simulation results. Our analysis also reveals the existence of continuous and discontinuous phase transitions for large systems as the temperature increases, which is explained in the mean-field approximation. Interestingly, for some game parameters, we find optimal "social temperatures" maximizing/minimizing the cooperation frequency/density.Comment: 14 pages, 5 figure

    Performance Evaluation of Power Efficient Mechanisms on Multimedia over LTE-A Networks

    Power optimization is a critical challenge in multimedia services over cellular communication systems. Long Term Evolution-Advanced (LTE-A) has been developed for higher bandwidth access for accommodating today’s heavy data applications to provide better performance. Idle mode permits cellularstations to manipulate power and sources with the aid of limiting its activity for discrete periods and this eliminates the lively requirement for handover and other ordinary operations. Also, provides a periodical method for the cell station for pending downlink traffic directed to the cellularstation and as a result gets rid network handover traffic from basically inactive cellular stations. Discontinuous Reception (DRX) has been carried out to decrease the power intake of the consumer device, and transmission of big quantity of data. At data transfer, mobile device and the network phases negotiation occur. During other times, the device turns its receiver off and enters a low power state. Thereby similarly assisting numerous services and big quantities of information transmissions. This study prepossession of a massive quantity of data. Also proposes the two-power optimization modes idle mode and DRX mode parameters to achieve maximum possible power saving with the higher quality of multimedia services. Furthermore, the effectiveness of using DRX short cycles and DRX long cycles on multimedia services and the overall performance. Using OPNET Simulator 17.5, it concluded that DRX mechanism is preferred to operate compared with the Idle mechanism, also resulted that the DRX long cycles are a very good choice for all multimedia services and the overall network performance
