Node Query Preservation for Deterministic Linear Top-Down Tree Transducers

This paper discusses the decidability of node query preservation problems for XML document transformations. We assume a transformation given by a deterministic linear top-down data tree transducer (abbreviated as DLT^V) and an n-ary query based on runs of a tree automaton. We say that a DLT^V Tr strongly preserves a query Q if there is a query Q' such that for every document t, the answer set of Q' for Tr(t) is equal to the answer set of Q for t. Also we say that Tr weakly preserves Q if there is a query Q' such that for every t_d in the range of Tr, the answer set of Q' for t_d is equal to the union of the answer set of Q for t such that t_d = Tr(t). We show that the weak preservation problem is coNP-complete and the strong preservation problem is in 2-EXPTIME.Comment: In Proceedings TTATT 2013, arXiv:1311.505

Immunostimulation-Mediated Anti-tumor Activity of Bamboo (Sasa senanensis) Leaf Extracts Obtained Under ‘Vigorous’ Condition

Traditional Japanese medicine uses the leaves of Kumaizasa bamboo extracted in hot water at 100°C. For this study, we developed a new, ‘vigorous’ extraction method involving steps at 100, 121 and 196°C. This procedure not only yielded greater amounts of extract but also with significant increase in immunostimulating activity, which induces activation of human natural killer (NK) cells, macrophages and potent induction of IL-2, IL-12 and IFN-γ in tumor bearing mice. The efficacy of the extract to facilitate phagocytosis and nitric oxide production by mouse peritoneal macrophages was determined and compared with that of 1,3-β-glucan. Anti-tumor activity was evaluated in vivo in several mouse tumor models (S-180, C38 and Meth-A). Oral administration of the extracts was carried out when tumor reached size of approximately 6 mm at concentrations of 0.05% or higher. The extracts significantly suppressed tumor growth in S-180 and C38 tumor models. Overall survival was significantly prolonged in the treatment group than that of control. Activation of macrophages and NK cells by the extracts suggests that the anti-tumor efficacy of the extract is mediated by immunopotentiation. The extracts resolved into three major fractions (F-I, F-II and F-III) in Sephadex gel chromatography. Fraction F-I consists of 1,3-β-glucan and stimulated both macrophages and NK cells suggesting that it may be the primary immunopotentiating factor in suppressing cancer. Fraction F-III has potent free radical scavenging effects and may play an important role in cancer prevention. These results warrant further translation and clinical investigations

O capital e as universidades federais no governo Lula

Abstract : In the present research, we analyzed the educational proposals of the National Confederation of Industry (CNI) - specific fraction of the capital - for public universities in the Government of Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (2003-2010). We study the design of industrial entrepreneurs, specifically the CNI and its complementary entities. The examination of documents covering the two presidential terms of Lula allowed us to notice that the CNI modified its proposals for public universities over time. At the beginning of the Lula administration, industrialists proposed forms of privatization other than that in the strict sense, defending education gratuity for students, but linking this to the flexibility of courses, the deconstruction of the sense of universities in its teaching-research-extension dimension, the incorporation of entrepreneurship in the educational matrix as well as the introduction of a kind of managerialism of results and management skills specific to the private sector. At the end of Lula?s administration, industrialists understood that priority should be given to basic education, that public universities should be extinct and its funds transferred to other levels of education, encouraging the privatization in the strict sense, that is, the entrepreneurship of the higher education. We found that industrial capital constituted a pedagogical set of ideas at the end of the second Lula government, whose bases are the "human capital" and "society of knowledge". From the point of view of the working class, there is no positive element in the ideology of such entrepreneurs. To build political projects that reclaim the role of Brazilian university and its public sense, the working class must break completely with any project of alliance with the industrial production sector
