Vertex Operators for Super Yang-Mills and Multi D-Branes in Green-Schwarz Superstring

We study vertex operators for super Yang-Mills and multi D-branes in covariant form using Green-Schwarz formalism. We introduce the contact terms naturally and prove space-time supersymmetry and gauge invariance. The nonlinear realization of broken supersymmetry in the presence of D-branes is also discussed. The shift of fermionic coordinate \delta^{(-)}\Psi =\eta becomes exact symmetry of D-brane in the static gauge, where $\eta$ is a constant spinor in U(1) direction.Comment: Latex, 16 page

Temporal Changes in the Macroinvertebrate Fauna of Two Glacial Lakes, Cootapatamba and Albina, Snowy Mountains, New South Wales

Before 2003, unique assemblages of aquatic invertebrates in Lake Cootapatamba and Lake Albina lived in a fishless environment. A sequence of events in 2003 following a large-scale bushfire in the area allowed the native Mountain Galaxias Galaxias olidus to enter Lake Cootapatamba. This study determines the extent of any temporal changes in the invertebrate assemblages of each lake and whether the introduction of fish into Lake Cootapatamba affected these assemblages. The littoral and benthic fauna of both lakes were found to have changed since the earliest studies of these lakes in 1997/1998 and 1976, respectively. In particular, there has been a large decrease in the abundance of the isopod Metaphreatoicus australis and planarians, and the gastropod Glacidorbis hedleyi and amphipod Neoniphargus sp. have apparently disappeared. The effect is greatest in the benthos and in Lake Cootapatamba, so while fish seemed to have affected some invertebrates in some habitats, other factors may be acting. Sometime since 1976, the exotic worm Lumbriculus variegatus arrived into Lake Albina. Shifts in the representation of other taxa, such as ephemeropterans, plecopterans, tricopterans, dipterans and coleopterans, are thought to reflect natural year-to-year fluctuations but more data are needed

Sports participation among Norwegian youth: a study of early sporting careers

Published by Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis GroupDespite a growing body of evidence suggesting that establishing sporting repertoires during youth is intimately related to ongoing participation in sport, little is known about how such repertoires develop during the crucial early teenage years, when the sporting habits that provide a basis for sporting careers take shape. The aim of the study was, therefore, to describe the structure of young people’s sporting repertoires as they move through a key formative period, as a basis for theorising their retention in sports participation. By providing a detailed analysis of a cohort of young Norwegians as they progressed through lower-secondary into upper-secondary school (13–16-year-olds), this study offers insights into how different sporting forms fluctuate during a period typically characterised by heavy drop-out and drop-off from sports participation. Data were obtained from a longitudinal cohort study of Norwegian youngsters attending 11 lower secondary schools based on annual surveys conducted from grade 8 through to grade 10 and used to describe cohort changes in sports participation rates and sporting forms over time. The noticeable movement between sporting forms alongside the marked shift towards informal sports during the period is likely to provide an important insight into how Norwegian teenagers not only maintain high levels of participation during the teenage years but also enhance their sporting repertoires in a manner likely to sustain sports participation through youth into early adulthood

Innovation by demand: An interdisciplinary approach to the study of demand and its role in innovation

The structure and regulation of consumption and demand has recently become of great interest to sociologists and economists alike, and at the same time there is growing interest in trying to understand the patterns and drivers of technological innovation. This book brings together a range of sociologists and economists to study the role of demand and consumption in the innovative process. The book starts with a broad conceptual overview of ways that the sociological and economics literatures address issues of innovation, demand and consumption. It goes on to offer different approaches to the economics of demand and innovation through an evolutionary framework, before reviewing how consumption fits into evolutionary models of economic development. Food consumption is then looked at as an example of innovation by demand, including an examination of the dynamic nature of socially-constituted consumption routines. The book includes a number of illuminating case studies, including an analysis of how black Americans use consumption to express collective identity, and a number of demand-innovation relationships within matrices or chains of producers and users or other actors, including service industries such as security, and the environmental performance of companies. The involvement of consumers in innovation is looked at, including an analysis of how consumer needs may be incorporated in the design of high-tech products. The final chapter argues for the need to build an economic sociology of demand that goes from micro-individual through to macro-structural features
