Utilizing semantic networks to database and retrieve generalized stochastic colored Petri nets
Previous work has introduced the Planning Coordinator (PCOORD), a coordinator functioning within the hierarchy of the Intelligent Machine Mode. Within the structure of the Planning Coordinator resides the Primitive Structure Database (PSDB) functioning to provide the primitive structures utilized by the Planning Coordinator in the establishing of error recovery or on-line path plans. This report further explores the Primitive Structure Database and establishes the potential of utilizing semantic networks as a means of efficiently storing and retrieving the Generalized Stochastic Colored Petri Nets from which the error recovery plans are derived
Superconducting Surface Impedance under Radiofrequency Field
Based on BCS theory with moving Cooper pairs, the electron states
distribution at 0K and the probability of electron occupation with finite
temperature have been derived and applied to anomalous skin effect theory to
obtain the surface impedance of a superconductor under radiofrequency (RF)
field. We present the numerical results for Nb and compare these with
representative RF field-dependent effective surface resistance measurements
from a 1.5 GHz resonant structure
Wind tunnel test IA300 analysis and results, volume 1
The analysis and interpretation of wind tunnel pressure data from the Space Shuttle wind tunnel test IA300 are presented. The primary objective of the test was to determine the effects of the Space Shuttle Main Engine (SSME) and the Solid Rocket Booster (SRB) plumes on the integrated vehicle forebody pressure distributions, the elevon hinge moments, and wing loads. The results of this test will be combined with flight test results to form a new data base to be employed in the IVBC-3 airloads analysis. A secondary objective was to obtain solid plume data for correlation with the results of gaseous plume tests. Data from the power level portion was used in conjunction with flight base pressures to evaluate nominal power levels to be used during the investigation of changes in model attitude, eleveon deflection, and nozzle gimbal angle. The plume induced aerodynamic loads were developed for the Space Shuttle bases and forebody areas. A computer code was developed to integrate the pressure data. Using simplified geometrical models of the Space Shuttle elements and components, the pressure data were integrated to develop plume induced force and moments coefficients that can be combined with a power-off data base to develop a power-on data base
Ovalbumin sensitization and challenge increases the number of lung cells possessing a mesenchymal stromal cell phenotype
Abstract Background Recent studies have indicated the presence of multipotent mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) in human lung diseases. Excess airway smooth muscle, myofibroblasts and activated fibroblasts have each been noted in asthma, suggesting that mesenchymal progenitor cells play a role in asthma pathogenesis. We therefore sought to determine whether MSCs are present in the lungs of ovalbumin (OVA)-sensitized and challenged mice, a model of allergic airways disease. Methods Balb/c mice were sensitized and challenged with PBS or OVA over a 25 day period. Flow cytometry as well as colony forming and differentiation potential were used to analyze the emergence of MSCs along with gene expression studies using immunochemical analyses, quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR), and gene expression beadchips. Results A CD45-negative subset of cells expressed Stro-1, Sca-1, CD73 and CD105. Selection for these markers and negative selection against CD45 yielded a population of cells capable of adipogenic, osteogenic and chondrogenic differentiation. Lungs from OVA-treated mice demonstrated a greater average colony forming unit-fibroblast (CFU-F) than control mice. Sorted cells differed from unsorted lung adherent cells, exhibiting a pattern of gene expression nearly identical to bone marrow-derived sorted cells. Finally, cells isolated from the bronchoalveolar lavage of a human asthma patient showed identical patterns of cell surface markers and differentiation potential. Scarab Beetles (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae) in the Dung of Native Arkansas Mammals
Dung beetles are important ecological components of natural ecosystems. One primary activity is the fragmentation and recycling of animal dung. Little is known about the ecological impact of beetles associated with the dung of mammals native to Arkansas. We surveyed the dung of native mammals within Arkansas to determine the species and distributional patterns associated with dung. We searched and collected beetles in situ from the dung or nests of native mammalian species within Arkansas. We also set simple pitfall traps using dung of various native Arkansas mammals as bait. Most of the beetles collected were common dung beetles. However, we collected a new state record, Ataenius cylindrus, in dung of white-tailed deer, Odocoileus virginianus, and we provide the first report of dung beetles in the dung of river otter, Lontra canadensis
Modifying the Einstein Equations off the Constraint Hypersuface
A new technique is presented for modifying the Einstein evolution equations
off the constraint hypersurface. With this approach the evolution equations for
the constraints can be specified freely. The equations of motion for the
gravitational field variables are modified by the addition of terms that are
linear and nonlocal in the constraints. These terms are obtained from solutions

Radiative Corrections to Longitudinal and Transverse Gauge Boson and Higgs Production
Radiative corrections to gauge boson and Higgs production computed recently
using soft-collinear effective theory (SCET) require the one-loop high-scale
matching coefficients in the standard model. We give explicit expressions for
the matching coefficients for the effective field theory (EFT) operators for q
qbar -> VV and q qbar -> phi^+ phi for a general gauge theory with an arbitrary
number of gauge groups. The group theory factors are given explicitly for the
standard model, including both QCD and electroweak corrections.Comment: 16 pages, 49 figure
Density of bulk trap states in organic semiconductor crystals: discrete levels induced by oxygen in rubrene
The density of trap states in the bandgap of semiconducting organic single
crystals has been measured quantitatively and with high energy resolution by
means of the experimental method of temperature-dependent
space-charge-limited-current spectroscopy (TD-SCLC). This spectroscopy has been
applied to study bulk rubrene single crystals, which are shown by this
technique to be of high chemical and structural quality. A density of deep trap
states as low as ~ 10^{15} cm^{-3} is measured in the purest crystals, and the
exponentially varying shallow trap density near the band edge could be
identified (1 decade in the density of states per ~25 meV). Furthermore, we
have induced and spectroscopically identified an oxygen related sharp hole bulk
trap state at 0.27 eV above the valence band.Comment: published in Phys. Rev. B, high quality figures:
