    Cyclophosphamide Promotes Arrested Development of the Dental Root in Mice

    Cyclophosphamide (CPA) is a commonly used chemotherapeutic agent to treat cancer. Among its many side effects is the well-known consequence on tooth development when administered at early ages. This study elucidated the effects of CPA on development of the mandibular molar in mice. Mice received a single intraperitoneal injection of CPA at different doses and development times. CPA treatment led to weight loss and alopecia but had no effect on disturbances in tooth eruption or crown shape. However, at higher doses, there was arrested root development and early apical foramen closure histologically related to the formation of the cervical loop structure in the apical portion of the root. In cell culture experiments, the Hertwig\u27s epithelial root sheath cell line (HERS01a) was cultured with or without CPA. At high doses of CPA, HERS01a cells showed decreases in E-cadherin expression, while N-cadherin expression was upregulated, indicating that this cadherin switch may promote an epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT)-like phenomenon. These findings suggest that administration of high doses of CPA can lead to arrested root development of the molars and an EMT-like phenomenon.福岡歯科大学2019年

    This paper reports an attempt to introduce a computerized system which makes it possible to select important English words in an efficient way. Vocabulary building is indisputably important in developing English skills, so we have adopted a web-based English vocabulary learning system that we use in conjunction with regular classes. To maintain this system, it is necessary to select target vocabulary words from textbooks while also referring to several wordbooks. Although this process serves an important purpose, it takes a certain amount of time each time, which inevitably constitutes a problem. As a means of addressing this issue, we have developed a computerized system for selecting important English words based on the data of multiple wordbooks. This new system has made it possible to reduce the time it takes to choose target words

    JASTRO IC/IS Guideline for Gynecologic Cancers

    It has been postulated that the combination of intracavitary and interstitial brachytherapy (IC/IS) is effective and safe for large and irregularly shaped uterine cervical cancer patients. However, due to its invasiveness compared to conventional intracavitary brachytherapy (ICBT), it has to be said that the implementation speed of IC/IS is slow. Until now, there have been no guidelines for required equipment, human resources, and procedural guide focusing solely on IC/IS. The purpose of this guideline is to provide radiation oncologists and medical physicists who wish to start IC/IS with practical and comprehensive guidance for a safe IC/IS introduction and to help accelerate the spread of the utilization of IC/IS nationwide. This is the English translation of the Japanese IC/IS Guidelines, and it was created in an effort to share the Japanese approach to the management of locally advanced uterine cervical cancer worldwide

    SCC antigen and ApoC-II as serum biomarkers of cervical cancer

    There are currently no reliable, established serum biomarkers to predict the prognosis of radiotherapy for advanced cervical cancer. We aimed to identify serum biomarkers for survival after radiotherapy for cervical cancer. In this multicenter prospective cohort study, the usefulness of pre- and posttreatment serum protein levels of potential biomarkers, including squamous cell carcinoma antigen (SCC-Ag), apolipoprotein C-II (ApoC-II), matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)1, and MMP2, were evaluated together with clinical factors in 145 cervical cancer patients in order to determine their suitability to predict survival. Progression-free survival (PFS) was the primary endpoint, and overall survival (OS), pelvic PFS (PPFS), and distant metastasis-free survival (DMFS) were the secondary endpoints. Blood samples were collected before and 1 month after radiotherapy to measure serum biomarker levels. ApoC-II was measured using a monoclonal antibody-based enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, which was developed for this purpose. Kaplan-Meier method, log-rank test, and univariate and multivariate Cox proportional hazards models were used for statistical analyses. In multivariate analysis, larger tumor size was independently associated with shorter PFS, OS, PPFS, and DMFS, while longer overall treatment time was independently associated with shorter PPFS. Higher pretreatment SCC-Ag (P 25.8 μg/ml (P = 0.023, log-rank test). Pre- and posttreatment serum SCC-Ag and pretreatment serum ApoC-II levels may be important biomarkers to predict survival outcomes of patients with cervical cancer after radiotherapy. Pre- and posttreatment SCC-Ag and pretreatment ApoC-II might be useful in clinical settings for screening patients to improve treatment strategies in cervical cancer

    In this study, we research moldability and shape-holding property by FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling) type three dimensional printer as teaching works by students in total design education. Its lecture has learned at department of mechanical engineering in fourth grade of National Institute of Technology, Gunma College. Though 3D printer is easy and fast for make objects, it is important for strength and shaping to make design. The test specimens printed with several direction by FDM 3D printer and made by several color ABS (Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene resin). The evaluation examined the correlation between the density, dimensional precision and Stress–strain curves. Elastic modulus measured by general gauge length method. These results valuated dimension errors and tensile strength data of the 3D objects by various materials and conditions of the printer

    人工廃水を用いた衛生工学実験の実施と課題

    We suggest that using the artificial wastewater for the experiments in sanitary engineering. The wastewater from the septic tank of our college is used on the experiments in sanitary engineering for 4th year students in department of civil engineering. The safety management was concerned for sanitary conditions. Therefore, the artificial wastewater with peptone, NaCl and kaolin was used for the experiments in sanitary engineering. The similar data were obtained at 15 kinds of water quality analysis, when we used the wastewater from the septic tank. However, the difference of NH3-N and PO4-P data were higher as compared with the wastewater from the septic tank data. The method of explanation for the artificial wastewater has to be improve. These results indicate that using the artificial wastewater on the experiments in sanitary engineering has a few improvement
