    Boosting expensive synchronizing heuristics

    Get PDF
For automata, synchronization, the problem of bringing an automaton to a particular state regardless of its initial state, is important. It has several applications in practice and is related to a fifty-year-old conjecture on the length of the shortest synchronizing word. Although using shorter words increases the effectiveness in practice, finding a shortest one (which is not necessarily unique) is NP-hard. For this reason, there exist various heuristics in the literature. However, high-quality heuristics such as SynchroP producing relatively shorter sequences are very expensive and can take hours when the automaton has tens of thousands of states. The SynchroP heuristic has been frequently used as a benchmark to evaluate the performance of the new heuristics. In this work, we first improve the runtime of SynchroP and its variants by using algorithmic techniques. We then focus on adapting SynchroP for many-core architectures, and overall, we obtain more than 1000× speedup on GPUs compared to naive sequential implementation that has been frequently used as a benchmark to evaluate new heuristics in the literature. We also propose two SynchroP variants and evaluate their performance

Effects of testicular microlithiasis on Doppler parameters: report of three cases

    Get PDF
BACKGROUND: Testicular microlithiasis is a rare, usually asymptomatic, non-progressive disease of the testes associated with various genetic anomalies, infertility and testicular tumors. According to our literature search, there is no specific data about Doppler findings in this disease. CASE PRESENTATION: Doppler findings of three cases of testicular microlithiasis during last two years in our institution are presented. CONCLUSIONS: Although our hypothesis was to find increased Doppler parameters due to intratesticular arterial compression, our findings suggest that there are no Doppler findings specific to testicular microlithiasis

The noise reduction is achieved by approximating the reconstructed sound wave trained by YSA to the actaul recording sound wave. A network topology is created for training and the system was tested. The performance of the system is given by showing how closely the sound wave trained by YSA approaches the actual sound wave. © 2018 IEEE

25th Signal Processing and Communications Applications Conference, SIU 2017 -- 15 May 2017 through 18 May 2017 -- -- 128703In digital holography applications, the position of the object, which is in the system, substantially affects the quality and clarity of three dimensional reconstructed image obtained from hologram. Therefore, obtaining a good three dimensional image by locating the image to be reconstructed in the correct position in the system, can sometimes take a long time. The usage of artificial intelligence algorithms instead of capturing the best images by recording the image several times and reduction of this time would be wise. For the first time in this study by using the classification method approach used in artificial neural networks, which is an artificial intelligence methods, the best image is obtained with optimization via software, not on the digital holographic system. The three important features that affected the system, while the holographic setup is constructing, are examined for 142 different situations and the results of these situations are classified into 5 different classes. After classification by using artificial neural networks, the random values are taken for the test process of the trained system and the performance of the system is determined. © 2017 IEEE

The Determination of Crack on Glass Surface by Optical Voice Detector Based on Digital Holography

1st International Conference on Optics, Photonics and Lasers (OPAL) -- MAY 09-11, 2018 -- Barcelona, SPAINWOS: 000454436200050This paper proposes a new application of digital holography to detect the crack on the surface of glass. A crack on the glass surface has been detected by recording the sound wave experimentally in digital holography. Firstly sound wave holograms are recorded by passing the sound wave through the smooth glass surface. After that sound holograms for the glass surface with crack are performed. The detection of crack on glass surface is determined by using their corresponding frequency spectrums for both situations.Int Frequency Sensor Assoc, Inst Phys, MDPI Journal Photonics, Springers Journal Lasers Mfg & Mat ProcDepartment of Scientific Research Projects in Bulent Ecevit UniversityBulent Ecevit University [2016-75737790-04]; Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK)Turkiye Bilimsel ve Teknolojik Arastirma Kurumu (TUBITAK) [116E303]This study is supported by the Department of Scientific Research Projects in Bulent Ecevit University (project no: 2016-75737790-04) and the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) (project no: 116E303)

Ancylotherium pentelicum (Perissodactyla, Mammalia) from the Upper Miocene of central and western Turkey

WOS: 000177480600006We report here new fossils of A. pentelicum from two Turolian localities of central and western Turkey, Pinaryaka and Salihpasalar (Kemikalan). The material, which consists of well preserved distal limb-bones, is compared with the few previously described specimens, mainly from Samos and Pikermi, but the observed differences should probably be attributed to individual variation. There is no evidence of evolution of the species during the Middle Turolian of the eastern Mediterranean, where it filled a narrow ecological niche, before its extinction.
