    Enhancing social well-being through social innovation approach and design expertise: a case study for social innovation in a local district in Turkey

    Design-driven scenarios can play a critical role in enhancing social and environmental well-being and creating sustainable solutions for better living conditions and sustainable futures. With this starting point, this study aims to use traditional knowledge as a source for sustainable development and a sustainable way of living by examining, empowering, and promoting local and traditional values through social innovation approach and design expertise. The main motivation of the study is to construct an intended link between traditional knowledge and a sustainable future for societies. The research was conducted by examining a multi-cultural local district in Turkey and its traditional and sustainable habits and proposing development ideas based on the social innovation literature and authors’ design expertise. The proposed ideas involve different approaches such as an ecosystem that promotes co-creation, women’s employment, symbiotic production processes, and digital marketing platforms for local products

    Nanowires of Lead-Free Solder Alloy SnCuAg

    Ternary Sn88Ag5Cu7, Sn93Ag4Cu3, Sn58Ag18Cu24, Sn78Ag16Cu6, Sn90Ag4Cu6, Sn87Ag4Cu9 alloy nanowires were produced at various values of deposition potential by dc electrodeposition on highly ordered porous anodic alumina oxide (AAO) templates. During the deposition process some parameters, such as ion content, deposition time, pH, and temperature of the solution, were kept constant. The diameter and length of regular Sn93Ag4Cu3 nanowires electrodeposited at −1 V were determined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) to be approximately 200–250 nm and 7-8 μm, respectively. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) results indicate that the melting onset temperature of Sn93Ag4Cu3 nanowires is about 204°C

    Acute Respiratory Distress due to Antipsychotic Drugs

    We report a 36-year-old male schizophrenic patient who was treated with risperidone for a long time. Because of an acute psychotic reaction, haloperidol, chlorpromazine and olanzapine were administered additionally. After administration of these drugs, he developed acute respiratory distress that caused his death. We discuss the cause of this respiratory distress and conclude that it might be due to acute laryngeal dystonia caused by these antipsychotic drugs. Antipsychotic drug-induced laryngeal dystonia is rarely reported but it is a life threatening side effect. All physicians dealing with antipsychotic drug therapy must be aware of acute laryngeal dystonia, and an antiparkinsonian agent should be administered immediately

    Role of Circadian Transcription Factor Rev-Erb in Metabolism and Tissue Fibrosis

    Circadian rhythms significantly affect metabolism, and their disruption leads to cardiometabolic diseases and fibrosis. The clock repressor Rev-Erb is mainly expressed in the liver, heart, lung, adipose tissue, skeletal muscles, and brain, recognized as a master regulator of metabolism, mitochondrial biogenesis, inflammatory response, and fibrosis. Fibrosis is the response of the body to injuries and chronic inflammation with the accumulation of extracellular matrix in tissues. Activation of myofibroblasts is a key factor in the development of organ fibrosis, initiated by hormones, growth factors, inflammatory cytokines, and mechanical stress. This review summarizes the importance of Rev-Erb in ECM remodeling and tissue fibrosis. In the heart, Rev-Erb activation has been shown to alleviate hypertrophy and increase exercise capacity. In the lung, Rev-Erb agonist reduced pulmonary fibrosis by suppressing fibroblast differentiation. In the liver, Rev-Erb inhibited inflammation and fibrosis by diminishing NF-κB activity. In adipose tissue, Rev- Erb agonists reduced fat mass. In summary, the results of multiple studies in preclinical models demonstrate that Rev-Erb is an attractive target for positively influencing dysregulated metabolism, inflammation, and fibrosis, but more specific tools and studies would be needed to increase the information base for the therapeutic potential of these substances interfering with the molecular clock

    Production of Y-Ba-Cu-O Nanowires and Nanotubes by Electrochemical Method

    In this work, the technological aspects of great importance YBa2Cu3O7−xYBa_2Cu_3O_{7-x} superconducting materials were produced in the form of nanotube by electrochemical method. The electrochemical deposition conditions for the Y-Ba-Cu deposition in nanoporous Al2O3Al_2O_3 were investigated. The heat treatment was applied to Y−Ba−Cu//Al2O3Y-Ba-Cu//Al_2O_3 nanopatterns, to form superconductive phase. The resulting nanostructures were found to be in length 4-5 μm, 177-210 nm in diameter. The produced nanostructures at - 4 V and more positive potentials were Y-Ba-Cu nanowires, while the nanostructures deposited at the more negative potentials were of nanotube form
