    ABSTRACT The coolant leakage by thermal striping phenomenon should be prevented at nuclear power plants and a lot of efforts are made to develop its evaluation methods. The frequency transfer function method can be used to obtain temperature and stress response to fluid temperature history using transfer function models; therefore it is considered as an excellent evaluation method. To measure temperature response of structures to fluid temperature variations and to confirm their frequency characteristics, transient temperature measurement tests were performed by JAEA. In the transient temperature measurement tests, three different frequencies of sinusoidal fluid temperature waves (0.05, 0.2, 0.5Hz) were controlled using frequency controlled thermal fatigue test equipment (SPECTRA) and temperature responses at inner and outer piping surfaces were measured along the test sections. Frequency effects on temperature attenuation during transfer process from fluid to structures were confirmed and the effective heat transfer function in frequency transfer function method was verified by transient temperature measurement test results

    Ring Gap Structure around Class I Protostar WL 17

    WL 17 is a Class I object and was considered to have a ring-hole structure. We analyzed the structure around WL 17 to investigate the detailed properties of WL 17. We used ALMA archival data, which have a higher angular resolution than previous observations. We investigated the WL 17 system with the 1.3 mm dust continuum and 12CO and C18O (J = 2-1) line emissions. The dust continuum emission showed a clear ring structure with inner and outer edges of ~11 and ~21 au, respectively. In addition, we detected an inner disk of < 5 au radius enclosing the central star within the ring, the first observation of this structure. Thus, WL 17 has a ring-gap structure, not a ring-hole structure. We did not detect any marked emission in either the gap or inner disk, indicating that there is no sign of a planet, circumplanetary disk, or binary companion. We identified the base of both blue-shifted and red-shifted outflows based on the 12CO emission, which is clearly associated with the disk around WL 17. The outflow mass ejection rate is ~3.6x10^-7 Msun yr-1 and the dynamical timescale is as short as ~ 10^4 yr. The C18O emission showed that an inhomogeneous infalling envelope, which can induce episodic mass accretion, is distributed in the region within ~1000 au from the central protostar. With these new findings, we can constrain the planet formation and dust growth scenarios in the accretion phase of star formation.Comment: 22 pages, 9 figures, Accepted for publication in the Astrophysical Journa

    Effects of Zirconium Doping Into a Monoclinic Scheelite BiVO4 Crystal on Its Structural, Photocatalytic, and Photoelectrochemical Properties

    Effects of zirconium (Zr) doping into BiVO4 powder on its structural properties and photocatalytic activity for O2 evolution were examined. The formation of BiVO4 powder crystallized in a monoclinic scheelite structure (ms-BiVO4) was achieved when the sample was doped with a relatively small amount of Zr. The photocatalytic activity of Zr-doped ms-BiVO4 powder was much higher than that of non-doped ms-BiVO4. However, further doping caused a reduction of photocatalytic activity for O2 evolution due to the occurrence of structural alterations into tetragonal scheelite and tetragonal zircon structures. Similar effects of Zr doping were also observed for the photoelectrochemical (PEC) system based on BiVO4 thin films doped with various amounts of Zr. Thus, Zr doping was confirmed to be effective for improvements of photocatalytic and PEC functions of BiVO4 for water oxidation

    Local recurrence after rectal endoscopic submucosal dissection: a case of tumor cell implantation

    We report a case of local recurrence of cancer after rectal endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD). A 52-year-old male underwent a curative resection with ESD for rectal intramucosal cancer. Seventy-four months after ESD, surveillance colonoscopy showed an elevated lesion on the ESD scar, suspicious of a recurrence. The patient subsequently underwent a low anterior resection (intersphincteric) with lymph node dissection. Pathology revealed a well-differentiated adenocarcinoma, similar to the ESD specimen. We suspected that the local recurrence was caused by implantation of tumor cells during the ESD, due to surgical manipulation performed with the tumor in an exposed setting for a long period of time

    A 59-year-old man visited our hospital in June 1997 because of cough and dyspnea at rest. He was diagnosed as pulmonary alveolar proteinosis (PAP) by bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) and transbronchial lung biopsy. The alveoli were distended with pink homogeneous material that showed staining with the periodic acid Schiff method. The concentration of surfactant protein A in BAL fluid was significantly increased. We treated the patient with oral ambroxol hydrochloride and therapeutic BAL. We believe that this combination of therapies is the first choice for the treatment of PAP

    Crystalline Inclusions in Hepatocyte Mitochondria of a Patient with Porphyria Cutanea Tarda

    Intramitochondrial crystalline inclusions were found in hepatocytes of a patient with porphyria cutanea tarda (PCT). They were composed of parallel filamentous structures which measured approximately 12 nm in diameter. Each filament was separated from an adjacent filament by a space measuring approximately 5 nm. The mitochondria containing such inclusions were usually elongated and enlarged. It seemed likely that these changes are not particular in PCT, but indicate one reversible pathological finding in the liver

    The relationship between auditory ERP and neuropsychological assessments in schizophrenia

    金沢大学附属病院To clarify the cognitive significance of event-related potential (ERP) abnormalities in schizophrenia, we examined the relationships of amplitudes and latencies of ERP components with performance on neuropsychological tests in schizophrenic patients. Twenty patients underwent the Trail Making B Test (TM-B), which is sensitive to frontal lobe dysfunction, and the logical memory, verbal paired-association, and visual reproduction subtests of the Wechsler Memory Scale (WMS), which are sensitive to temporal lobe dysfunctions, and ERP recordings during performance of an oddball auditory discrimination task. Pearson product–moment correlations indicated that an increased P200 amplitude was correlated with poor performance on the TM-B, whereas a decreased P300 amplitude was correlated with poor performance on the verbal paired-association subtest of the WMS. These findings suggest that a P200 abnormality represents the frontal lobe dysfunction, and a P300 abnormality represents the left temporal lobe dysfunction in schizophrenia

    Background: Herpesvirus entry mediator (HVEM) has been recently suggested to play certain roles in cancer biology. We examined HVEM expression in human colorectal cancer (CRC) to reveal its clinical importance. Materials and Methods: Immunohistochemical staining was carried-out in normal epithelium, benign and malignant lesions. Results: While intense HVEM expression was not observed in normal epithelium and hyperplastic polyps, 24% of adenoma and more than half of CRCs had high HVEM expression. In 234 CRCs, HVEM expression was significantly associated with tumor status and pathological stage. Patients with high HVEM expression had a significantly poorer prognosis than those with low expression. Importantly, HVEM status had an independent prognostic value in CRC. Furthermore, HVEM status was inversely corrected with the presence of tumor-infiltrating T-cells.
