University libraries or other service departments involved in research data management often do not have comprehensive information about what types of research data are collected, used, produced and disseminated within the institution concerned. A comprehensive overview of the research data landscape is a prerequisite for the strategic planning and development of suitable, locally adapted services. This case study describes the survey of the production and use of research data at the WU Vienna University of Economics and Business and, based on this, the establishment and coordination of research data management by the university library. On the one hand, the study led to interesting results relevant to service development. On the other hand, the approach used here was converted into a procedural model that also appears to be applicable to other academic institutionsPeer Reviewe

This is a really good and comprehensive textbook which covers all relevant aspects of online retrieval and bridges a gap in the market. For academic libraries this book is a must-have, at least for internal use. For library schools, it is recommended to use it as textbook in class in the undergraduate studies

The management of an international open access repository : the case of E-LIS
E-LIS is the largest open access repository in the field of library and information science and is maintained voluntarily by an international team of librarians and information professionals. As from April 2009, it contains at about 9000 full text documents in 37 languages from more than 5600 authors from 90 countries. Additionally to the provision of services to authors and associations in the field, the management of policy issues is crucial for the repository administration. Thus E-LIS has, inter alia, completed a policy audit and intends to formulate and communicate its policies in a standardized way
Zwei Jahre österreichische Beteiligung an E-LIS : Status quo und Perspektiven
E-LIS: E-prints in library and information science is an international open access repository in the field of library and information science. It was founded 2003 and contains more than 7.000 full texts. Since 2005 at about 200 Austrian documents have been included (numbers: December 2007). Compared with other countries this is a remarkable achievement, but related to the amount of relevant literature published in Austria a significant increase of contributions seems possible. This paper describes E-LIS and its organisation, its relation to other open access repositories in this field, the benefit for authors, and challenges that have to be faced. Finally, cooperations and concepts in order to increase the Austrian contribution to E-LIS are outlined
