Rainfall Trend Detection in Northern Nigeria over the Period of 1970-2012
This study examined the trends in variability and spatial distribution of annual rainfall over northern Nigeria during the period 1970-2012 with a view to understand the pattern of rainfall trend (significance and magnitude), by applying various statistical tools on the data obtained from 11 weather stations. The non-parametric Mann–Kendall test was used to determine the statistical signi?cance of trends while the magnitude of trends was derived from the Sen slope estimator of the linear trends using Kendall robust line ?tting. Map of rainfall trends was generated by applying a geo-statistical interpolation technique to visualize the detected tendencies. The findings revealed that a significant positive increase of 2.16mm in rainfall was recorded in the entire northern Nigeria within the period of 1970 to 2012. It further indicated that majority of the stations revealed an upward trend, with Bauchi, Borno, Kebbi and Sokoto stations showing significant positive trends of 8.13mm, 4.30mm, 4.76mm and 4.42mm respectively. It is concluded that there is high variability in rainfall in the northern Nigeria which signifies a clear evidence of climate change in the region. Exploring Representations of Self by Diasporic Muslim Writers
AbstractThis paper highlights four completed graduate research projects conducted at the School of Language Studies and Linguistics in the area of Muslim identity in fiction. The four writers chosen are Palestinian-Egyptian-Australian Randa Abdel-Fattah, Ethiopian-Yemeni Mohamad Abdul Wali, Greek-American Jamilah Kolocotronis and Afghani-American Khalid Hosseini. These writers are part of the ever growing diasporic Muslim canon that continues to explore issues of self and the politics of diaspora. The discussion investigates each writer's representation of the Muslim Self with themes which include confronting identity crisis of a minority adolescent, challenging the fractured identity of a minority migrant, defying religious identity representation of a revert, and exoticizing identity of the Muslim landscape. In conclusion, we contend that the Muslim fiction writers problematize the issue of identity of Muslims in the world today given their heterogeneous landscapes and social/cultural contestations

THE EFFECT OF LAYER THICKNESS AND RASTER ANGLES ON TENSILE STRENGTH AND FLEXURAL STRENGTH FOR FUSED DEPOSITION MODELING (FDM) PARTS
Additive manufacturing(AM) technologies using Fused
Deposition Modeling (FDM) is one of the most popular method and is
widely used for prototyping and production application. However, the
quality of parts produced with FDM can be affected by various process
parameters used. Therefore, this study aims to examine the effect of and
layer thickness and raster angle on mechanical properties of FDM parts. All
the test specimens were built by using Folger Tech 3D printer with two
materials which are ABS and PLA. ASTM D638 and D790 standard were
followed to carry out the tensile test and flexural test to determine the
mechanical properties of tensile strength, and flexural strength. The
influence of the layer thickness and raster angle on tensile strength and
flexural strength is determine using Analysis of variance (ANOVA). The
results show that the variables layer thickness and raster angle affect the
flexural strength more than these variables affect the tensile strength of the
test specimen. Contrary to the common results, the specimen fabricated
using PLA material has higher strength compared to ABS material in this
stud
