    Malaria remains a major cause of military casualities in South-east Asia. The numerous conflicts in the region have been greatly affected by malaria. Besides guerrilla warfare, refugees and other civilian movements across international borders contribute heavily to the continuing problem of multiple drug-resistant malaria. Drug resistance is an increasing problem with few available prophylactic options. The malaria threat to any potential deployment of United States military forces remains unsolved
