The development of a test setup for the upgrade of the Time Projection Chamber at the ALICE detector
Tijekom drugog dugog gaÅ”enja Large Hadron Collidera na CERN-u potrebno je nadograditi detektore za mjerenja visokoenergetskih sudara zbog poveÄanog luminoziteta ÄestiÄnih snopova. Na ALICE detektoru, jedna od najbitnijih nadogradnji je zamjena ureÄaja za oÄitavanje unutar komore vremenske projekcije detektorima baziranim na Gas Electron Multiplier (GEM) tehnologijama. U diplomskom radu Äe se razvijati nadogradnje testnog postava za GEM detektore na FiziÄkom odsjeku PMF-a u Zagrebu tako Å”to Äe se testirati visokonaponske karakteristike postava, kao i pokuÅ”ati realizirati oÄitanje signala s detektora pomoÄu pikoampermetara originalno razvijenih za tu namjenu.During the second long shutdown of the Large Hadron Collider at CERN, the detectors for high energy collisions must be upgraded to keep track with a significant increase in the particle beams luminosity. An integral part of the ALICE detector upgrade is the replacement of the time projection chamber readout system with GEM technology based detectors. In this master thesis, an upgrade of the experimental setup for the GEM detectors at Physics department of the Faculty of Science in Zagreb will be performed by testing the high voltage properties of the setup, with an attempt to get a readout of a signal from the detector with a picoammeter developed originally for that purpose
