Practical synthesis of functionalized terminal alkynes, 3,3,3-triethoxypropyne and ketal protected prop-2-ynones

Practical and economical synthesis of synthetically valuable 3,3,3-triethoxypropyne, ketal protected phenyl and methyl substituents prop-2-ynones is described. Bromination and subsequent 18-crown-6 catalyzed elimination of triethylorthoacrylate and ketal protected terminal alkenes with methyl and phenyl substituent which are inturn readily available from triethylorthopropionate, 3-chlorobutan-2-one and propiophenone afforded multigram quantities (>10 g) of corresponding functionalized terminal alkynes. Exploration of the synthetic utility of these alkynes is also demonstrated by the acetylenic substitution of the phenylalaninol derived 1,2-cyclic sulfamidate to deliver chiral alkynylated amines. © 2017 Taylor & Francis

Unexpected suicide and irrational thinking in adolescence: A case report

WOS: 000293818800010PubMed ID: 21771561This report aims to draw attention to the fragility of adolescents' mind and irrational thinking in adolescence that might lead to suicide due to unusual experiences, by presenting a case of completed suicide with its unusual etiology. The victim, a 13 years old boy, had a quarrel with his mother as she sacrificed his pet, a cock, to prepare for dinner. Because of this, the victim had denied to join the family for dinner and wanted to be alone. While the family having dinner, a passing by neighbor realized that the victim was suspended with a ligature around his neck, in the backyard of the house. Meaningfully, there were feathers of cock in pants pockets of the deceased, in the corpse examination. Adolescents are experiencing dramatic physical and emotional changes, and being oversensitive and fragile in that period of life. Thus, a life experience that is tolerable to adults might badly affect adolescents and lead to suicide which is incomprehensible to them. Comparison of hair and nail ethyl glucuronide concentrations

Objective: Alcohol abuse remains to be an important problem in the world. In forensic medicine practice, alcohol and its metabolites should be detected in the body in order to determine whether a person has taken alcohol or not. Therefore, detection of ethyl glucuronide in such keratinous tissues as nails and hair following alcohol intake is important. In the present study, we compared hair ethyl glucuronide concentrations with nail ethyl glucuronide (EtG) concentrations. Methods: Hair and nail specimens were obtained from a total of 16 people taking alcohol. The specimens were analyzed with LC/MS/MS technique. Ethyl glucuronide concentrations of hair specimens were compared with those of nail specimens. Results: Ethyl glucuronide concentrations were 1.33-65.67 (+/- SD16.57) ppb in hair specimens and 4.27-225.03 (+/- SD 59.77) ppb in nail specimens. Hair ethyl glucuronide concentrations were correlated with nail ethyl glucuronide concentrations (r=0,808, p<0.001). Conclusion: This study showed that ethyl glucuronide concentrations in hair and nails could be determined. This suggests that detection of nail ethyl glucuronide concentrations can be useful in people without hair. In addition, there was a significant relationship between hair and nail ethyl glucuronide concentrations
