    Seismic Assessment in a Historical Masonry Minaret by Linear and Non-linear Seismic Analyses

    Operational Modal Analysis (OMA) method is frequently used in order to determine dynamical properties of historical masonry structures. In this study, damage pattern of historical Alaca minaret which is selected as application is investigated under different ground motions by updating finite element models (FEM) depending on operational modal analysis test. Initial Finite element model was prepared in ABAQUS V10 program and numerical dynamic characteristics of minaret were determined. In addition, experimental dynamic properties of minaret were provided by operational modal analysis. Initial numerical model of brick masonry structure was calibrated via OMA method. Then, linear and non-linear seismic analyses of calibrated FEM of historical minaret were performed by using different earthquakes acceleration records that occurred in Turkey. Concrete Damage Plasticity model was taken into account in non-linear seismic analyses. As a result of the analyses, it is concluded that the stresses obtained with linear analyses aren’t as realistic as the non-linear analyses results and the earthquakes can cause some damages in the minaret. &nbsp

    Superoxide dismutase and xanthine oxidase activities in New Zealand rabbits treated with different types of glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) after osteoarthritis surgery

    Chondroitin sulphate is one of the glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) generally acquired from animal tissues. CS has an anti-inflammatory, anti-apoptotic and antioxidant properties. The GAGs have been recently reported to possess the ability to influence oxidative stress known to lead to free radical mediated biological damage. Herein, we report the effect of some GAGs on superoxide dismutase (SOD) and xanthine oxidase (XO) activities in experimental animal models submitted to osteoarthritis surgery. In this respect, SOD and XO activities were investigated in New Zealand rabbits treated with different types of glycosaminoglycans (GAGs); commercial chondroitin sulphate (CCS) and bacterial chondroitin sulphate (BCS) (produced by using E. coli). (bzs. rnk.), tablo ;_29 cm.Nitrik Oksid (NO) prekürsörü olan L-argininin, gentamisin ile oluşturulan böbrek yetmezliğine koruyucu bir etki gösterdiği bilinmektedir. Bu etkiye nitrik oksidin yanı sıra L-argininin NO sentez yolağı dışındaki mekanizmalarda katkıda bulunabilir. Bu çalışmada Gentamisinle oluşturulan nefrotoksisiteye karşı Larginin ve onun inaktif izomeri olan D- argininin koruyucu etkisi karşılaştırmalı olarak araştırıldı. Bu çalışmada, gentamisin nefrotoksisitesine karşı L-argininin koruyucu etkisi altında yatan mekanizmaları anlamak amacıyla, sekiz grup oluşturuldu: kontrol grubu (normal besin ve çeşme suyu alan grup), Gentamisin (GM, 100 mg/ kg; s.k.) grubu, L-arginin grubu (2g/l/gün, içme suyuyla oral yoldan), D-arginin grubu (3g/l/gün, içme suyu ile oral), L-NAME grubu (5 mg/1/gün, içme suyu ile oral olarak), GM (100 mg/ kg; s.k.) + L-arginin (2g/l/gün, içme suyu ile oral) grubu, GM (100 mg/ kg; s.k.) + L-NAME (5 mg/1/l/gün içme suyu ile oral olarak); GM (100 mg/ kg; s.k.)+ D-arginin (3g/l/gün dozla içme suyuyla içme suyu ile oral) uygulandı Bu çalışmada, Gentamisin alan grupta üre ve kreatinin değerlerinin yükseldiği tespit edilmiştir. Ayrıca bu grupta yapılan histpopatolojik incelemede böbrek parenkiminde belirgin konjesyon görüldü. Buna TOS (Total oksidan Seviye), TAS (Total Antioksidan Seviye), MDA (Malondialdehid), XO (Ksantin Oksidaz) NO (Nitrik oksid), TNF alfa değerlerinde artış; TGF Beta, GSH (Glutatyon) düzeylerinde ise azalma eşlik etti. NO prekürsörü olan L-argininin birlikte verilmesi, gentamisine bağlı olarak değişen bu değerleri nispeten düzeltti. Öte yandan, L-arginin inaktif yapısal izomeri olan D- arginin ve NOS (nitrik oksid sentaz) inhibitörü olan L-NAME gentamisine bağlı hasar üzerinde olumlu bir etki oluşturmadı. Bu bulgular, D- argininin değil, fakat L-argininin gentamisine bağlı oluşan oksidatif stresi azalttığını göstermektedir. Bu etki L-arginin–NO yolağı üzerinden olabilir.It is known that L-arginine, nitric oxide (NO) precursor, have protective effects on gemtamycine (GM)-associated kidney failure. There are few studies suggest that protective effects of L-arginine are not related to only NO pathway and some other mechanisms can be included. In this study we aimed to compare the effects between L-arginine and its inactive isomere, D-arginine, due to their structural similarities. In this this study, to determine antioxidative mechanism underlying the protective effect of L-arginine on the gentamicine-induced nephrotoxicity, seven experimental group were performed: Control (received top water), Gentamicine (GM, 100 mg/ kg; s.c.), L-arginine (2g/l/sc, in the drinking water), D-arginine (3g/l/day, in the drinking water), NG-nitro-Larginin metilester (L-NAME, 5 mg/1/day, in the drinking water), GM (100 mg/ kg; s.c.) + L-arginine (2g/l/day, in the drinking water), GM (100 mg/ kg; s.c.) + L-NAME (5 mg/1/ day in the drinking water); GM (100 mg/ kg; s.c.)+ D-arginine (3g/l/day, in the drinking water). In the present study, gentamicine caused to increase in urea and creatinine. Also , gentamicine led to markedly congestione of renal parenchyme in histopathologic examination. Moreover, Gentamicine incresae Total oxidant status (TOS), Malondialdehyde (MDA), Xanthine (XO), Nitric oxide (NO) and TNF alfa, while it decrease in Total antioxidant status (TAS), TGF beta, Glutathione (GSH) levels. Althought L-arginine, GM and L-NAME groups haven't shown any kidney injury, gentamycine combined groups have more kidney injury and increased urea and creatine levels. L-arginine ameliorated the parameters occured in gentamicine-induced nephrotoxicity. However, Neither D-arginine nor L-NAME restored the nephrotoxicity induced by gentamicine. These results, suggest that L-arginine but not D-arginine, has protective effect on gentamicin-induced nephropathy. This effect may result from activity of L-arginine/NO pathway.Bu çalışma Ç.Ü.     DBYBHY2007 ve FEMA440 da Önerilen Performans Noktası Belirleme Yaklaşımlarının Karşılaştırılması

    Mevcut betonarme yapı sistemlerinin performansa dayalı hesabında, kapasite ve istem eğrilerinin kesiştirilmesi ile elde edilen performans noktasının belirlenmesi için farklı yaklaşımlar bulunmaktadır. Deprem Bölgelerinde Yapılacak Binalar Hakkında Yönetmelik (DBYBHY2007) de, TB'den daha uzun peryotlu yapılar için eşit yerdeğiştirme prensibine dayalı bir yöntem izlenirken, FEMA440 da efektif periyot ve sönüm tanımlarına dayalı bir ardışık yaklaşım yöntemi önerilmektedir. Bu çalışmada, düzenli betonarme yapı sistemlerini temsil edecek şekilde seçilen, farklı kat sayılarına sahip çerçeve ve perde-çerçeve türü taşıyıcı sistemi olan binalar üzerinde çalışılmıştır. Bu binalar için DBYBHY2007 ve FEMA440 da tanımlanan performans noktası belirleme yaklaşımları kullanılarak elde edilen deprem istemleri, birbirleriyle ve "kesin çözüm" olarak kabul edilen Zaman Tanım Alanında Doğrusal Olmayan Analiz (ZTADOA) ile bulunan deprem istemleriyle karşılaştırılmıştır. Bu istemler arasında tepe yerdeğiştirmesi, taban kesme kuvveti, göreli kat ötelemeleri bulunmaktadır. İncelenen sistemlerde, DBYBHY2007 ile belirlenen istemlerin "kesin çözüm" olarak kabul edilen ZTADOA sonuçlarına daha yakın olduğu gözlenmiştir

YKL-40 is an inflammatory marker associated with inflammation and is also associated with periodontal diseases. Moringa oleifera (MO) is a plant rich in high nutritional values, minerals, vitamins, and other essential phytochemicals. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of MO administration on serum YKL-40 levels in an experimental periodontitis model. In the study, a total number of 24 female Wistar albino rats, which were 4-5 months old with a body weight of 275 ± 25 g, were used. Animals were divided into three groups. 1st group: Control (n = 8), 2nd group: periodontitis group (PG) (n = 8), 3rd group: Periodontitis group (PG + MO) with an additional 200 mg/kg/4 weeks MO (n = 8). In the PG and PG + MO were formed experimental periodontitis model. Compared to the PG, the decrease in the interleukin-6 (IL-6) and YKL-40 values in the PG + MO (p < 0.05, p < 0.05) was found to be significant in terms of statistical evaluation. As a result, MO decreased YKL-40 levels in the experimental periodontitis model. Although further research is needed, drugs containing MO can be used in the treatment of periodontal diseases. © 2023 the author(s), published by De Gruyter
