Elastoplastic analysis of plane structures using improved membrane finite element with rotational DOFs: Elastoplastic analysis of plane structures

    No full text
In this work, the small-strain elastoplastic behavior of structures is analyzed using an improved nonlinear finite element formulation. In this framework, an eight-node quadrilateral finite element denoted PFR8 (Plane Fiber Rotation) that belongs to the set of elements with rotational degrees of freedom is developed. Its formulation stems from the plane adaptation of the Space Fiber Rotation (SFR) concept that considers virtual rotations of nodal fiber within the element. This approach results in an enhancement of the displacement vector approximation. Von-Mises yield criteria have been applied for yielding of the materials along with the associated flow rule. Newton-Raphson method has been used to solve the nonlinear equations. To assess the performance of the proposed element, benchmark problems are addressed and the results are compared with some analytical and numerical solutions from the literature

Dietary Nigella sativa and Peganum harmala oils reverses hyperglycaemia, hepatotoxicity, and metabolism in rats

International audienceThis study aims to evaluate the therapeutic action of administration of Nigella sativa (NS) and Peganum harmala (PH) oils in diabetes and hepatic toxicity. Results show that treatment of diabetic rats with NS oil or PH oil ameliorate hyperglycaemia induced stress oxidative and hepatic dysfunction in diabetic rats. Administration of NS or PH oil to diabetic rats caused an anti-diabetic and antioxidant activities by the decrease in plasmatic glucose level and increase in hepatic superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), and glutathione peroxidase (GPX) activities, reduced glutathione (GSH) and glycogen contents compared to untreated diabetic rats. Besides, A'S and PH oils protect the hepatic function observed by decrease of triglyceride (TG), total cholesterol (TCh), and increase of high density lipoprotein-cholesterol (HDL-Ch) levels in serum and hepatic tissues. Moreover, a diminution in the bilirubin, transaminase glutanic pyruvic (TGP), and transaminase pyruvic oxaloacetic (TPO) contents in serum and the thiobarbituric acid-reactive substances levels (TBARs) in hepatic tissues are also detected

1α,25 dihydroxyvitamin D3: Therapeutic and preventive effects against oxidative stress, hepatic, pancreatic and renal injury in alloxan-induced diabetes in rats

International audienceDiabetes mellitus is a major endocrine disorder and a growing health problem in most Countries which can be ameliorated by numerous bio-molecules such as la,25 dihydroxyvitamin D3 [1 alpha,25(OH)2VD3]. With this in mind, the current study investigated the therapeutic and preventive effects of 1 alpha,25(OFT)2VD3 on diabetes and its side effects: toxicity in liver, pancreas and kidneys. Our results show that administration of 1 alpha,25(OH)2VD3 in diabetic rats increased the plasmatic insulin level, favored the normal blood glucose levels and normalized the hepatic glycogen concentration. In addition, 1 alpha,25(OH)2VD3 enhanced Superoxide dismutase (SOD). catalase (CAT) and glutathione peroxidase (GPX) (by 207, 52 and 72%, respectively) compared to diabetic rats. It also reduced lipid peroxidation and the indices of toxicity in liver and kidneys by significantly decreasing alkaline phosphatases (PAF), aspartate and lactate transaminase (AST and ALT) activities, total and direct bilirubin, triglycerides (TG), cholesterol. creatinine, urea and iron levels in diabetic rats. Moreover, the plasmatic non-enzymatic antioxidant level of HDL-cholesterol, magnesium (Mg), calcium (Ca) and copper (Cu) increased after 1 alpha,25(OH)2VD3 administration. The administration of 1 alpha,25(OH)2VD3 in diabetic rats protects against alloxan-induced histological changes in pancreas. Conclusion: from these data, it is concluded that 1 alpha,25(OH)2VD3 might be useful for the therapy and prevention of diabetes and the numerous side effects especially toxicity in liver, pancreas and kidneys and this protective effect is more obvious in our preventive experiment

Assessing plant protection practices using pressure indicator and toxicity risk indicators: analysis of the relationship between these indicators for improved risk management, application in viticulture

International audienceThe excessive use of plant protection products (PPPs) has given rise to issues of public and environmental health because of their toxicity. Reducing the use of toxic PPPs and replacing them with products that are less toxic for human health and the environment have become socially, environmentally and economically indispensable. In this article, we assess the plant protection practices of a small group of winegrowers practicing “integrated agriculture” in the south of France, in order to measure the benefit of using toxicity risk indicators as a decision-support tool for different players in land management. An analysis of plant protection practices using indicators of the risk to operator health and the environment (IRSA, IRTE), together with a frequency-of-treatment indicator (TFI), enabled us to (i) show the variability of these indicators depending on the production system and farmers’ pesticide use strategies and (ii) calculate correlations between these indicators. This analysis of plant protection practices at different scales (farm, field), carried out in collaboration with the growers, enabled us to perform an initial validation of decision-support tools for determining risk management strategies regarding the use of pesticides
