With the aim of recovering zinc, copper. lead, iron and sulphur from complex sulphide ores, the selective-sulphatization flotation process has been proposed by the Institute. Complex sulphide ores are treated with , bulk flotation. The concentrate, after being reground, is subjected to the treatment of selective sulphatization. The object of the treatment lies in sulphatizing only the zinc and lead sulphides as far as possible, with minimum sulphatization of pyrite and chalcopyrite. In the treatment, the bulk concentrate is mixed with comparatively concentrated sulphuric acid, the mixture being kept at a temperature of around 150℃ for one hour. The sulphatization product is leached out with water, and the resultant zinc sulphate solution can be electrolysed for zinc. On the other hand, chalcopyrite, pyrite, and lead sulphate can be recovered from the leach residue by application of differential flotation. In the present report, the research on the selective sulphatization and the electrolytic recovery of zinc is given. First, to find out basic data for the treatment, a variety of sulphide minerals were subjected to the action of sulphuric acid of high concentration and the degree of sulphatization was examined. From the results, it was found that zinc minerals, including zinc blende and marmatite, galena, and pyrrhotite were readily sulphatized, while chalcopyrite and pyrite were almost unaffected. Second, the flotation concentrates from Hanaoka Mine, having the chemical composition as shown in Tables 2 and 4, were treated with the selective sulphatization. The representative result gave 97% of sulphatization percentage for zinc, while 3.6% and 2.0% for iron and copper, respectively. Optimum conditions for the tests were as follows : Concentration of H_2SO_4, 60 vol%; solid-liquid ratio, 1:1 ; treating time, 1 hr and treating temperature, 150~160℃. The solution leached out from the sulphatization product was subjected to tests for production of zinc under the electrolysis process in usual practice and the cathode zinc of 99.97% purity, containing 0.024% of lead, 0.0046% of copper and 0.0029% cadmium, was obtained. Finally, similar tests were repeated on a larger scale and the good results were also obtained

The effect of trabecular meshwork (TM)-targeted minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) on the vasculature assessed using anterior segment (AS)-optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) has not been established. In this prospective, longitudinal study, we investigated changes in the deep vasculature following TM-targeted MIGS using AS-OCTA for open-angle glaucoma in 31 patients. AS-OCTA images of the sclera and conjunctiva at the nasal corneal limbus were acquired preoperatively and 3 months postoperatively, and the vessel densities (VDs) of the superficial (conjunctival) and deep (intrascleral) layers were calculated. The VDs before and after MIGS were compared, and the factors associated with the change in VD following MIGS were analyzed. The mean deep VD decreased from 11.98 ± 6.80% at baseline to 10.42 ± 5.02% postoperatively (P = 0.044), but superficial VD did not change (P = 0.73). The multivariate stepwise regression analysis revealed that deep VD reduction was directly associated with IOP reduction (P < 0.001) and preoperative IOP (P = 0.007) and inversely associated with preoperative deep VD (P < 0.001). The deep VD reduction following MIGS was significant in the successful group (21 eyes) (P = 0.032) but not in the unsuccessful group (10 eyes) (P = 0.49). The deep VDs assessed using AS-OCTA decreased following TM-targeted MIGS, especially in the eyes with good surgical outcomes

Purpose: To investigate longitudinal changes in the retinal nerve fiber bundle in eyes with primary open angle glaucoma using adaptive optics scanning laser ophthalmoscopy. Methods: A prospective observational case series. Fourteen eyes from 12 patients with primary open angle glaucoma that exhibited retinal nerve fiber layer defects on fundus photography were imaged with adaptive optics scanning laser ophthalmoscopy over time. Results: The expansion of retinal nerve fiber bundle narrowing was observed on adaptive optics scanning laser ophthalmoscopy in 8 eyes (57.1%) over a period of 1.44 ± 0.42 years. Retinal nerve fiber bundle narrowing expanded horizontally in 2 eyes and vertically in 6 eyes. In 3 eyes, changes in the retinal nerve fiber layer were only detectable on adaptive optics scanning laser ophthalmoscopy images. Conclusions and Importance: The expansion of retinal nerve fiber bundle narrowing was observed using adaptive optics scanning laser ophthalmoscopy. Accordingly, this tool may be a useful tool for detecting glaucoma-related changes in retinal nerve fibers in a short time

In order to clarify the living condition in Dome Fuji Station in 2003, air temperature and relative humidity in the station were measured. Thermocouples with data logger and a ventilated psychrometer were used for the measurements. Average air temperature from February 11, 2003 to January 14, 2004 (missing period: July 19 to August 17) in the Dome Fuji Station buildings were as follows: Generator room 24.7℃, Dining room 23.5℃, Observation room 21.1℃, Dormitory room 18.2℃, Corridor 18.2℃, Food storage 8.2℃ and Old ice coring site -51.3℃. Average outside air temperature (1.5m height from the snow surface) during the period was -54.4℃. A remarkable increase of outside air temperature (+30℃ at maximum) due to a blocking high event was observed from October 31, 2003 to November 10, 2003 at Dome Fuji, during which increase of air temperature from 5 to 8°C in the station buildings was recorded. Snow on the station buildings was partly melted and some of the melted water penetrated into the station. This was the only time snow melted during the wintering over party\u27s stay at the station. Average relative humidity in the station buildings obtained using a small humidifier was about 25%; the relative humidity without using the humidifier ranged from 9.0 to 22.9%

前眼部OCTAを用いた線維柱帯切開術効果予測 --房水主流出路の可視化による緑内障手術予後予測の可能性--. 京都大学プレスリリース. 2021-09-09.We performed a prospective, longitudinal study to investigate the association between the preoperative intrascleral vasculature assessed using anterior segment (AS)-optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) and surgical outcomes of trabecular meshwork-targeted micro- or minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS). We included 37 patients with primary open-angle glaucoma. Preoperative AS-OCTA images of the sclero-conjunctiva of the nasal corneal limbus were acquired in the superficial (conjunctival) and deep (intrascleral) layers. The vessel densities (VDs) of each layer were measured separately in the entire area, limbal side, and fornix area. Surgical success was determined by postoperative intraocular pressure (IOP) and IOP reduction. Twenty-three and 14 eyes were classified as having successful and unsuccessful outcomes, respectively. The deep VDs of the entire area and fornix area were significantly lower in the successful group (P = 0.031 and P = 0.009). The success rate was significantly higher for eyes with a lower deep VD than for eyes with a higher deep VD. A greater IOP reduction was significantly associated with lower deep VD in the fornix area (P = 0.022) and higher preoperative IOP (P < 0.001). These results indicate that intrascleral vasculature assessed using preoperative AS-OCTA was negatively correlated with surgical success and IOP reduction resulting from trabecular meshwork-targeted MIGS. AS-OCTA images might help predict MIGS outcomes

A Case Report of Thelaziasis Callipaeda

This is the second case of thelaziasis callipaeda (human parasitosis with Thelazia nematodes) reported in Okayama Prefecture. In this patient, the nematode was discovered by chance in the upper palpebral conjunctival sac during tests prior to a cataract operation and was removed. There was no sensation of any physical disorder. The nematode was a male, and it was assumed from the degree of curvature of the tip of the tail that the course parasitism was only a month or so long. Both of the cases in Okayama occurred in Mitsu-gun, which could be of importance in determining the spread of thelaziasis callipaeda in the future
