MUMPS (Massachusetts General Hospital Utility Multi-Programing System) is a good system for medical information processing by computer. So, we have systemized the biochemical laboratory information system by using of DSM-11 (Digital Standard MUMPS) through PDP-11/34 mini-computer system in Hiroshima University Hospital. This system has some functions of transfering data from PDP11/34 to M-180 large computer and can transfer data form from tree model DBMS of DSM-11 on PDP11/34 to relational model DBMS of M-180 large computer. As HDM (relational model DBMS of M-180) has a function of using SPSS statistical programs package by DBMS, our designed system (DSM11/HDM system) can analyze a lot of laboratory data easily and statistically. We got much effortness by medical applications of this system

Architecture Evaluation Based on the Datapath Structure and Parallel Constraint

Abstract| This paper presents a novel way o f e v aluating architecture of embedded custom DSPs which helps designers optimizing the datapath conguration and the instruction set. Given a datapath structure, it evaluates the performance in terms of an estimated number of steps to execute the target program on the datapath. A concept of \parallel constraint" is newly introduced, which enables evaluation of the impact of instruction format design on the performance without explicitly specifying the instruction format. The number of execution steps is estimated by a combination of static analysis and dynamic analysis. It enables fast and precise estimation of actual performance in the early design stage. We show some experimental results on an actual signal processor to demonstrate the accuracy of estimation and the usefulness of this method in architecture design

A Semi-parametric Method for Describing the Age-specific Distribution of Clinical Measurements in Cross-sectional Study

Age-specific distribution of clinical measurements in cross-sectional study is described in this paper. Since the distribution of measurements usually varies with age, a model with an agedependent structure is needed. We propose here a statistical method for describing the age-specific distribution using an extension of the power-normal-model. The age-dependent parameters are to be estimated through a nonparametric smoothing technique based on the local likelihood method. As a consequence, we can compute a smoothed percentile curve of measurements with reference to age. Several kinds of clinical measurements are analyzed to determine the proposed method

In this paper, the mechanical properties of the lungs were measured in 5 smokers and 5 nonsmokers. Detailed investigations were carried out on smokers during periods when they were smoking and when smoking was prohibited (3 months). The results obtained were as follows: 1) The breathing work of smokers tends to be lower than that of nonsmokers. 2) The lung resistance of smokers tends to be higher than that of non-smokers. 3) The pressure-volume loops of smokers shift farther left than that of non-smokers. 4) The distubances in several mechanical properties observed during the period the smoking improved with the prohibition of smoking

ヒト多能性幹細胞におけるメチオニン代謝と亜鉛動態の関係性を解明 --培養液内の栄養が細胞分化のカギを握る--. 京都大学プレスリリース. 2022-07-27.Pluripotent stem cells (PSCs) exhibit a unique feature that requires S-adenosylmethionine (SAM) for the maintenance of their pluripotency. Methionine deprivation in the medium causes a reduction in intracellular SAM, thus rendering PSCs in a state potentiated for differentiation. In this study, we find that methionine deprivation triggers a reduction in intracellular protein-bound Zn content and upregulation of Zn exporter SLC30A1 in PSCs. Culturing PSCs in Zn-deprived medium results in decreased intracellular protein-bound Zn content, reduced cell growth, and potentiated differentiation, which partially mimics methionine deprivation. PSCs cultured under Zn deprivation exhibit an altered methionine metabolism-related metabolite profile. We conclude that methionine deprivation potentiates differentiation partly by lowering cellular Zn content. We establish a protocol to generate functional pancreatic β cells by applying methionine and Zn deprivation. Our results reveal a link between Zn signaling and methionine metabolism in the regulation of cell fate in PSCs
