    A Crystal Chemical Approach to a Cation-​Ordered Structure Model for Carbonate-​Intercalated Layered Double Hydroxides

    Layered double hydroxides comprise a stacking of pos. charged metal hydroxide layers with anions and water mols. included in the interlayer galleries. Among the anions, the carbonate ion is the most ubiquitous in both mineral and lab. synthesized phases. Taylor (1973) suggested that the carbonate ion (mol. symmetry D3h) prefers a trigonal prismatic interlayer site (local symmetry D3h)​, whereby the hydrogen bonding with the metal hydroxide layer is maximized. However, the cation ordered structure models of hexagonal symmetry include interlayer sites which are exclusively trigonal antiprisms (local symmetry D3d)​. In keeping with Taylor's criterion, a hexagonal stacking of metal hydroxide layers does not permit the inclusion of carbonate ions in the interlayer. In this work, a crystal chem. approach is adopted based on the translationgleiche subgroups of hexagonal and cubic summits to arrive at a structure model based on the space group C2​/m. In this structure, not only is the 3-​fold symmetry of metal coordination retained, but also interlayer sites of ∼D3h symmetry are generated to host the intercalated carbonate ions.     Face detection is a image processing technology that determines the location and size of human faces in digital images or video. This module precedes face recognition systems that plays an important role in applications such as video surveillance, human computer interaction and so on. This proposed work focuses mainly on multiple face detection technique, taking into account the variations in digital images or video such as face pose, appearances and illumination. The work is based on skin color model in YCbCr and HSV color space. First stage of this proposed method is to develop a skin color model and then applying the skin color segmentation in order to specify all skin regions in an image. Secondly, a template matching is done to assure that the segmented image does not contain any non-facial part. This algorithm works to be robust and efficient

    Context: This paper is part of a larger project in which we study the chemical abundances of extra-galactic post-AGB stars with the ultimate goal of improving our knowledge of the poorly understood AGB third dredge-up mixing processes and s-process nucleosynthesis. Aims: In this paper, we study two carefully selected post-AGB stars in the LMC. The combination of favourable atmospheric parameters for detailed abundance studies and their known distances make these objects ideal probes of the internal AGB third dredge-up and s-process nucleosynthesis in that they provide observational constraints for theoretical AGB models. Methods: We use high-resolution optical UVES spectra to determine accurate stellar parameters and perform detailed elemental abundance studies. Additionally, we use available photometric data to construct SEDs for reddening and luminosity determinations. We then estimate initial masses from theoretical post-AGB tracks. Results: Both stars show extreme s-process enrichment associated with relatively low C/O ratios of about 1.3. We could only derive upper limits of the lead (Pb) abundance which indicate no strong Pb overabundances with respect to other s-elements. Comparison with theoretical post-AGB evolutionary tracks in the HR-diagram reveals that both stars have low initial masses between 1.0 and 1.5 Msun. Conclusion: This study adds to the results obtained so far on a very limited number of s-process enriched post-AGB stars in the Magellanic Clouds. We find an increasing discrepancy between observed and predicted Pb abundances towards lower metallicities for all studied Magellanic Cloud post-AGB stars found so far, as well as moderate C/O ratios. We find that all s-process rich post-AGB stars in the LMC and SMC studied so far, cluster in the same region of the HR-diagram and are associated with low-mass stars with a low metallicity on average.Comment: 11 pages, 14 figure

    Experimental evaluation of anti-hyperglycemic and hypolipidemic effects of stevia rebaudiana, Anacardium occidentale on wistar rats

    Background: Diabetes mellitus, obesity, hypertension, hyperlipidaemia etc. is one of the pandemic metabolic disorder in the world, may lead to obesity, hypertension, hyperlipidaemia etc. Despite of medical advances like oral hypoglycemic agents, insulin pump, xenotransplantation and all don't provide enough control of blood sugar level to control Diabetes and its complications. Hence it is the right time for work on a new medicine, which can successfully control the blood sugar and bodily lipids and cost effective one also. In the present study an attempt is made to check the efficacy of folklore drugs with a conventional anti-diabetic compound glibenclamide.Methods: The decoction of a drugs Stevia rebaudiana and Anacardium occidentale prepared as described in The Ayurvedic Formulary of India, wistar rats of either sex were selected randomly. Before and after values of blood glucose, triglyceride, high density lipid and total cholesterol level were taken.Results: On analyzing the results, the study showed that the trial drug II stevia is effective and trial drug I Kajutaka is slightly effective in reducing the glucose level next to glibenclamide. The trial drug I Kajutaka showed effective in reducing the Triglyceride level followed by Stevia. The action may be due to alkaloids such as Stevioside, Rebaudioside possessed by Stevia, which may stimulate the islets of the pancreas to release Insulin. The Hypolipedimic action may be due to presence of Chemical constituents in Kajutaka leaf such as Ascorbic acid and Niacin.Conclusions: The present experimental study is preliminary one elaborate study with larger sample size is required to come up with a more significant result

    Near-Infrared and Optical Studies of the fast nova V4643 Sgr (Nova Sagittarii 2001)

    V4643 Sagittarii or Nova Sagittarii 2001 was discovered in outburst at 7.7 mag. on 2001 February 24. Here, we present near-infrared results of this fast classical nova obtained in the early decline phase in 2001 March followed by optical observations about one month later. Subsequently we also present near-infrared spectra taken later in the nova's evolution, about four months after the outburst, when V4643 Sgr had entered the coronal phase. The spectra in the early decline phase are dominated by emission lines of the HI Brackett series and also the Paschen beta and gamma lines. We study the cause of the excitation of the the OI line at 1.128 micron and discuss the variation in its strength with time after outburst. We discuss the role of optical depth effects on the observed strengths of the hydrogen Brackett and Paschen lines and discuss possible reasons for the puzzling behavior of the Br gamma line strength and whether it is correlated with the OI 1.128 micron line behavior. An optical spectrum is presented which shows that HeII lines are the most prominent features - after HI - to be seen in early 2001 April. We present and also discuss spectra taken in 2001 June and August which prominently show coronal lines of [Si VI] and [Si VII] at 1.9641 micron and 2.4807 micron respectively.Comment: Accepted in MNRA
