Inter-Linkage between FDI, Imports and Exchange Rate: An Empirical Evidence from Pakistan

Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) is a very important phenomenon of the millennium. It is considered a substitute and complementary for trade. Numerous researches regarding FDI and imports have been conducted, and contradictory results on complex relationship between FDI and Imports are found. The vector error correction model (VECM) and linear hypothesis testing have been applied by considering exchange rate as supplement for better and accurate modelling. The results of the study indicated short run as well as highly significant long run relationship among all variables under study. For imports causality runs from FDI to imports indicating FDI to be complementary variable for imports. Govt needs to implement policies which must boost up exports but curtail imports burden. In order to generate employment and reduce the balance of payments problems, it is therefore, suggested that government should opt and encourage FDI policies relevant to export oriented industries like manufacturing and production sectors along with the exploration of natural resources. Policies should aim to encourage FDI in industrial sector where the surge in import bill is compensated with export performance of the firms. An asymmetric analysis of the influence that economic policy uncertainty, institutional quality, and corruption level have on India’s digital banking services and banking stability

Motivated by the unprecedented high levels of recent economic policy uncertainty, the current study examines the influence of economic policy uncertainty, institutional quality, and corruption level on the Indian banking stability and the growth of digital financial services. Using the Baker et al.’s economic policy uncertainty index and nonlinear autoregressive distribution lag model on the data set of banking variables from 2004 to 2019, we infer the following findings. The unit root and the structural break tests confirm the presence of structural breaks and mixed order of integrations. Besides, the long-run nonlinear autoregressive distribution lag results substantiate a long-run asymmetric relationship between the explanatory variables (economic policy uncertainty, institutional quality, corruption level) and the outcome variables (digital banking services and banking stability). The study reveals that a 1 percent increase in the economic policy uncertainty increases nonperforming loans (proxy to measure banking stability) by 1.48 percent and decreases Z-score (proxy to measure banking stability) by −1.12 percent. Likewise, a 1 percent increase in policy uncertainty reduces the progress of digital financial services by −1.23 percent in India. In addition, the study also depicts a long-run cointegration between the explanatory and the outcome variables. Overall, the study shows significant evidence that policy uncertainty, corruption, and institutional regulation hampers Indian banking stability and digital growth. The study offers several policy implications to understand the adverse effects of economic policy uncertainty on the Indian banking sector.peer-reviewe

An efficient and secure session key management scheme in wireless sensor network

Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) is a particular network built from small sensor nodes. These sensor nodes have unique features. That is, it can sense and process data in WSN. WSN has tremendous applications in many fields. Despite the significance of WSN, this kind of network faced several issues. The biggest problems rising in WSN are energy consumption and security. Robust security development is needed to cope with WSN applications. For security purposes in WSN, cryptography techniques are very favorable. However, WSN has resource limitations, which is the main problem in applying any security scheme. Hence, if we are using the cryptography scheme in WSN, we must first guarantee that it must be energy-efficient. Thus, we proposed a secure hybrid session key management scheme for WSN. In this scheme, the major steps of public key cryptography are minimized, and much of the operations are based on symmetric key cryptography. This strategy extensively reduces the energy consumption of WSN and ensures optimum security. The proposed scheme is implemented, and their analysis is performed using different parameters with benchmark schemes. We concluded that the proposed scheme is energy-efficient and outperforms the available benchmark schemes. Furthermore, it provides an effective platform for secure key agreements and management in the WSN environment

اللغة العربية في ماليزيا

في إطار دعم المشروع المعرفي لمركز الملك عبد الله بن عبد العزيز لخدمة اللغة العربية الذي يهدف إلى تغطية مساحات متنوعة من التخصصات والفنون المتعلقة باللغة العربية، وتوثيق العلاقة بين المركز والمتخصصين في تعليم اللغة العربية للناطقين بغير العربية من كافة أنحاء العالم، يأتي كتاب (تعليم اللغة العربية في ماليزيا) استجابةً للدعوة الكريمة التي قدمها الأمين العام لمركز الملك عبد الله بن عبد العزيز لخدمة اللغة العربية، الدكتور عبد الله صالح الوشمي، لجمع الأبحاث التخصصية الجادة والرصينة في مجال تعليم اللغة العربية في ماليزيا بغية تقديم تصور واضح وشامل عن الوضع الراهن لحال اللغة العربية في ماليزيا، ودراسة فرص الارتقاء بها في ظل التحديات التي فرضتها العولمة عليها. إن اللغةَ العربيةَ تجمعها بالثقافة الماليزية روابطُ إلفٍ متأصلةٌ وضاربةٌ في القدم، فاللغة العربية تحظى بمكانة خاصة لدى الماليزيين المسلمين، فهم على اختلاف أعمارهم وطبقاتهم الاجتماعية يسعون جاهدين إلى تعلمها من أجل فهم القرآن الكريم، والأحاديث النبوية، والأدعية اليومية، والفقه والتفسير والعلوم الإسلامية. لقد كان للإسلام دور عظيم في انتشال الملايوين الأوائل من براثن الجهل الحالكة، ونقلهم من مجتمع بدائي متخلف إلى مجتمع متحضر. وقد اقتضت الحكمة الإلهية أن ينزل القرآن الكريم باللغة العربية، فارتبط الإسلام باللغة العربية، وحيثما حل الإسلام واستقر، حلت اللغة العربية معه لتحيا به، وتسانده وتستند إليه. لقد كان الملايويون الأوائل يعيشون في جهل معتم، لا يعرفون لأنفسهم حضارة مستقلة. وعندما وصل الإسلام إلى الأرخبيل الملايوي لم يتردد الملايويون في قبول الدين الجديد والإقبال على تعلم اللغة العربية لتحقيق ارتباطهم الديني بالإسلام وارتباطهم اللغوي بالعربية، دون اعتبار للانتماء العرقي والمكاني. لقد أسهمت اللغة العربية بصورة مباشرة وواضحة في تشكيل الثقافة الملايوية الإسلامية، وبناء الحضارة الأولى للملايويين وتحقيق غاياتها الإنسانية النبيلة للأمة الإسلامية بصورة عامة والشعب الملايوي بصورة خاصة. وقد اهتم المفكرون والباحثون الماليزيون بدراسة أثر اللغة العربية في البناء الحضاري للملايويين، وقدموا دراسات علمية متنوعة تناولت قضايا تعليم اللغة العربية في ماليزيا، وتعلمها، والتخصص فيها، واستخدامها في عصر العولمة والانفتاح الحضاري الحديث، والتواصل الثقافي والاجتماعي، وإسهامات المؤسسات الحكومية والتعليمية والمجامع والجمعيات الأهلية في تفعيل إسهام اللغة العربية في المحافظة على الثقافة الملايوية الإسلامية. لذا فقد تقرر إعادة نشر أهم الأبحاث العلمية في مجال تعليم اللغة العربية في ماليزيا، وجمعها بين دفة كتاب واحد. وقد وقع الاختيار على عشرة أبحاث تناولت أهم القضايا اللغوية المتعلقة باللغة العربية في ماليزيا، وقد اقتضت منهجية الكتاب ترتيب الأبحاث وتصنيفها وإدراجها تحت ثلاثة فصول رئيسة، هي: واقع اللغة العربية في ماليزيا، ومستقبل اللغة العربية في ماليزيا، وتجارب تعلمية في تعليم اللغة العربية في ماليزيا. وقد أخذت منهجية الدراسة في عين الاعتبار أثناء عملية جمع المادة العلمية للمشروع القيمةَ العلميةَ لمضامين الأبحاث المختارة التي أعدها وأشرف عليها أساتذة متخصصون في مختلف التخصصات اللغوية والأدبية، وبخلفيات ومشارب معرفية متنوعة وثرية. وقد روعي في تقديم مضامين الأبحاث المختارة تنسيقها تنيسقا داخليا يعكس التنوع في الدراسات التي تناولت تعليم اللغة العربية في ماليزيا، مما يتيح للقارئ فرصة الوقوف على جوانب متعددة لإسهامات اللغة العربية في بناء الحضارة الملايوية الإسلامية. وقد اقتضت مهمة التحرير تقديم بدائل ضرورية لبعض الصياغات، وإعادة ترتيب بعض المعلومات، وتلخيص بعضها، أو حذفها في حالة تكرر المعلومات في بحث سابق، أو التصرف في بعضها، لكن عمل التحرير التزم قدر الإمكان بالمحافظة على اختيارات أصحاب الأبحاث. وجدير بالتنويه إلى أن تحرير هذه الأبحاث لا ترفع عند الباحثين المسؤولية المترتبة على المعلومات المتضمة في أبحاثهم وأساليب عرضها. وأخيرا فإنه لا يسعني إلا أن أتقدم بأسمى آيات الشكر والتقدير لجميع من ساهم وأسهم في إنجاح هذا المشروع من مسؤولين وباحثين وإداريين وعاملين، وأخص بالشكر الأمين العام بمركز الملك عبد الله بن عبد العزيز لخدمة اللغة العربية على تقديم الدعم المادي والمعنوي للكتاب، والشكر موصول أيضا لجميع الباحثين الذين وافقوا على إعادة نشر أبحاثهم التي أسهمت في تحقيق هدف هذا الجهد العلمي المبارك في خدمة اللغة العربية، لغة الإسلام والمسلمين. ونسأل الله أن يوفقنا لما يحب ويرضى، وأن يتقبل منا هذا العمل خالصا لوجهه، ويجعله في ميزان حسناتنا، وآخر دعوانا أن الحمد لله رب العالمين
