Conversion of Natural Resources through Waste reduction at the Processing Step by Briquetting Technique

India is gifted by nature by way of large quantities of high grade nonferrous mineral resources like barite containing more than 90% barium sulphate. The processing of barite to win chemicals from it requires its carbotherrnic reduction at high temperatures being carried out in rotary furnaces. The powdered charge containing barium sulfide is prone to get damaged due to reverse reaction caused by infiltered oxygen at the end of reduction state. This hampers the yield of water soluble barium sulfide. The paper discusses about the means of achieving favourbale kinetics and high recovery of water soluble barium sulphide in the carbothermic reduction of barite at high temperatures. The reaction rate of reduction step was enhanced many folds by using briquetting technique. Even with barite containing large amnount of harmful impurites, the yield of barium was improved considerably on pilot plant scale, thus achieving better utilisation of natural resoures such as barite and coke

Medical imaging has been undergoing a revolution in the past decade with the advent of faster, more accurate and less invasive devices. This has driven the need for corresponding software development which in turn has provided a major impetus for new algorithms in signal and image processing. Digital image processing is important for many biomedical applications. The medical images analyzed, used as diagnostic tools and quite often provide insight into the inner working of the process under study. The commonly found abnormalities in endoscopic images are cancer tumors, ulcers, bleeding due to internal injuries, etc. The segmented method is used to segment the tumor, abnormal regions and cancerous growth in the human esophagus. In our proposed work, a method for detecting possible presence of abnormality in the endoscopic images is presented. An algorithm is to develop to perform the segmentation, classification and analysis of medical images, especially the endoscopic images for the identification of commonly occurring abnormalities in it

Trend of Crop Water Requirement at Akola (Maharashtra), India

Climate change scenario badly affects the agriculture. The present study aimed to characterize the trend in maximum temperature and crop water requirement over a last decade at Akola station (Maharashtra State), because of changing trend in meteorological parameters. Study investigated the trends in temperature and reference evapotranspiration using various statistical parameters like mean, coefficient of variation, coefficient of skewness and coefficient of kurtosis. Monthly maximum air temperature showed slightly decreasing trend over summer season while increasing trend over monsoon and winter season. On the contrary, the monthly reference evapotranspiration showed decreasing linear trend over monsoon and winter season, while increasing trend over summer season. The study concluded that as the monthly reference evapotranspiration showed decreasing linear trend over cropping seasons (i.e. monsoon and winter), the crop water requirement at Akola station shall decrease in future

Naturally Occurring Hydroxy Napthoquinones and Their Iron Complexes as Modulators of Radiation Induced Lipid Peroxidation in Synaptosomes

    Get PDF
The modulation of radiation induced lipid peroxidation in synaptosomes by iron (II) and iron (III) complexes of two naturally occurring and therapeutically relevant naphthoquinones viz. 5,hydroxy-1,4 naphthoquinone; juglone and 2,hydroxy-1,4 naphthoquinone; lawsone, have been studied. At lower concentrations the complexes enhance lipid peroxidation predominantly through redox cycling as observed for Fe(II)- juglonate while at higher concentrations the complexes tend to limit lipid peroxidation through fast recombinations

Oxidation and chemical state analysis of polycrystalline magnetron sputtered (Ti,Al)N films at ambient and liquid N-2 temperatures

In order to improve the functional properties of hard coatings, recent investigations have been directed towards Ti-N based multicomponent materials. The nitride (Ti, Al)N, in particular, with a Ti:Al ratio of 1:1 seems to be a promising alternative to the widely used TiN, exhibits better oxidation resistance and hence improved performance over that of TiN. (Ti, Al)N coatings were de sputter deposited onto 316SS substrates under ambient and liquid nitrogen temperatures. As deposited films were oxidized in a vertical fused-silica tube furnace in pure O-2 flowing atmosphere at temperatures ranging from 700 to 900 degrees C. Scanning electron microscope and atomic force microscope images reveal information about the particle size and film thickness. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy was employed to study the chemistry of the cop few atomic layers in addition to compositional analysis and information on the details of chemical bonding, The difference in film stoichiometry are compared at two different deposition conditions thus reflecting their behavior under oxidizing conditions

Robust Digital Watermarking For Color Images Using Fuzzy Vault

The advent of the Internet has resulted in many new opportunities for the creation and delivery of content in digital form. Applications include electronic advertising, real-time video and audio delivery, digital repositories and libraries, and Web publishing. An important issue that arises in these applications is the protection of the rights of all participants. It has been recognized for quite some time that current copyright laws are inadequate for dealing with digital data. This has led to an interest towards developing new copy deterrence and protection mechanisms. One such effort that has been attracting increasing interest is based on digital watermarking techniques. Digital watermarking is the process of embedding information into digital multimedia content such that the information (the watermark) can later be extracted or detected for a variety of purposes including copy prevention and control. Digital watermarking has become an active and important area of research, and development. Key research problem that we still face today is the development of truly robust, transparent and secure watermarking technique for different digital media including images, video and audio. So we propose a new robust digital watermarking system based on DCT and fuzzy vault techniques

Objective: To observe a prescription pattern in elderly patients attending outpatient department (OPD) and evaluating prescriptions according to theWorld Health Organization (WHO) prescription indicators. Methods: A cross-sectional observational study was conducted from July to September 2015. Patients of either gender, age 60 years or more, attending OPD in tertiary care hospital were included in the study. Prescriptions of medical practitioners were collected and evaluated for demographic data and the WHO drug prescribing indicators. Results: A total of 600 patients were enrolled in the study. The majority of the patients were in the age group 60-69 years (66.33%) with male preponderance (61%). The average number of drugs per prescription was 3.41. Out of 2045 drugs prescribed, 1261 drugs (61.66%) were prescribed by their generic name and 784 drugs (38.33%) were prescribed by their brand name. 1700 drugs (83.12%) prescribed were from the WHOs essential medicines list 2015. Total encounters involving injectable usage were 0.15%. Drugs acting on the cardiovascular system (21.12%) were the most frequently prescribed, followed by nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) (20%). Ranitidine (16.62%) is the most frequently prescribed drug. Conclusions: In this study, drug prescription pattern was rational as per the WHO drug prescribing indicators. However, issues such as polypharmacy and inaccuracies of dose and duration were seen. Keywords: Drug utilization study, Geriatric, Outpatient department, Rational use of medicines
