Mixed convection flow of couple stress fluid between vertical parallel plates with radiation and chemical reaction effects

    Get PDF
Paper presented to the 10th International Conference on Heat Transfer, Fluid Mechanics and Thermodynamics, Florida, 14-16 July 2014.This paper studies the effects of thermal radiation and chemical reaction on two dimensional incompressible couple stress fluid flow with mixed convective heat and mass transfer between two vertical parallel plates in a porous space. The plates are kept at different but constant temperature and concentrations. The governing non-linear partial differential equations are transformed into a system of ordinary differential equations using similarity transformations. The resulting equations are then solved using the homotopy analysis method. The effects of the radiation parameter, chemical reaction parameter and couple stress fluid parameter on velocity, temperature and concentrations are discussed and shown graphically. Also the effects of the pertinent parameters on the rates of heat and mass transfer are tabulated.cf201

Application of Taguchi approach and Utility Concept in solving the Multi-objective Problem when

    Get PDF
The traditional Taguchi method is widely used for optimizing the process parameters of a single response problem. Optimizationof a single response results the non-optimum values for remaining. But, the performance of the manufactured products isoften evaluated by several quality characteristics/responses. Under such circumstances, multi-characteristics response optimizationmay be the solution to optimize multi-responses simultaneously. In the present work, a multi-characteristics responseoptimization model based on Taguchi and Utility concept is used to optimize process parameters, such as speed, feed, depthof cut, and nose radius on multiple performance characteristics, namely, surface roughness (Ra) and material removal rate(MRR) during turning of AISI 202 austenitic stainless steel using a CVD coated cemented carbide tool. Taguchi’s L8 orthogonalarray (OA) is selected for experimental planning. The experimental result analysis showed that the combination of higherlevels of cutting speed, depth of cut, and nose radius and lower level of feed is essential to achieve simultaneous maximizationof material removal rate and minimization of surface roughness. The ANOVA and F-tests are used to analyze the results.Further, the confirmation tests are conducted and the results are found to be within the confidence interval

Abstract The tremendous growth of information technology and its advancement has made a drastic change in the way of retrieving, handling and storing information in the digital form became necessary to meet user needs of today. As per the user needs libraries are shifting from then traditional resources and services to digital resources and services. The present study paid most of its attention on the awareness, purpose of use, satisfaction and services amongst the users of Central Library of Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Kakinada (JNTUK). The study discloses that among the digital resources majority of users are aware of e-books and e-journals and find these resources important for their study and research. The more frequently used service is OPAC/Web OPAC service. The study in its findings shows that the purpose of using digital resources and services amongst the users is to search for their area of interest. 69.4% of the respondents are satisfied with the available digital resources and services

The Effectiveness of Central Bank Intervention in the Foreign Exchange Market: Evidence from India

This thesis empirically analyzes the effectiveness of RBI intervention in the foreign exchange market. The study framed two objectives related to the central bank intervention. The first objective deals with analyzing the effectiveness of RBI intervention on exchange rate level and volatility. And the second deals with the relevance of asymmetric intervention on exchange rate level and volatility. Using monthly data from July 1995 to July 2013 and GARCH methodology, the thesis empirically estimates two models. First model estimates the effect intervention on the exchange rate level and volatility by measuring intervention as net purchases of US dollar by the RBI. In second model included both purchases and sales of US dollar as a proxy the intervention to analyze the effect of asymmetric intervention on exchange rate level and volatility. The empirical findings suggest that the RBI intervention is not effective in influencing the level of Rupee/USD exchange rate. However, the study found that the RBI intervention is effective in reducing the volatility. The empirical findings also show that intervention by purchase of USD by RBI significantly reduces volatility whereas intervention by sales significantly increases volatility in exchange rate. These findings confirm the asymmetric effect of intervention in exchange rate volatility in the Indian context

Identification of quantitative trait loci (QTLs) for grain mineral elements can assist in faster and more precise development of micronutrient dense rice varieties through marker-assisted breeding. In the present study, QTLs were mapped for Fe and Zn concentrations in two BC2F3 mapping populations derived from the crosses of O. sativa cv Swarna with two different accessions of O. nivara. In all, 10 and 8 QTLs were identified for grain Fe and Zn concentrations in population 1, and 7 and 5 QTLs were identified in population 2, respectively. Eighty percent of the QTLs detected in both populations were derived from O. nivara. Five QTLs for Fe and three QTLs for Zn explained more than 15% phenotypic variance either in interval or composite interval mapping. The locations of O. nivara derived QTLs such as qFe2.1, qFe3.1, qFe8.2 and qZn12.1 were consistently identified in both the populations. Epistatic interaction was observed only between RM106 and RM6 on chromosome 2 and between RM22 and RM7 on chromosome 3 for Fe concentration in population 1. Sixteen candidate genes for metal homeostasis were found to co-locate with 10 QTLs for Fe and Zn concentrations in both the populations. Most of the Fe and Zn QTLs were found to co-locate with QTLs for grain yield and grain quality traits. Some of the major effect QTLs identified can be used to improve rice grain Fe and Zn concentrations

Soret and dufour effects on free convection flow of a couple stress fluid in a vertical channel with chemical reaction

    No full text
The Soret and Dufour effects in the presence of chemical reaction on natural convection heat and mass transfer of a couple stress fluid in a vertical channel formed by two vertical parallel plates is presented. The governing non-linear partial differential equations are transformed into a system of ordinary differential equations using similarity transformations. The resulting equations are then solved using Homotopy Analysis Method (HAM). Profiles of dimensionless velocity, temperature and concentration are shown graphically for various values of Dufour number, Soret number, Couple stress parameter and chemical reaction parameter

The effects of Soret and Dufour, chemical reaction, Hall and ion currents on magnetized micropolar flow through co-rotating cylinders

    No full text
The influence of cross diffusions, Hall and Ion slip of a dissipative magnetized micropolar fluid flow through an infinite concentric rotating vertical cylinders were investigated in addition to the first order chemical reaction. Cylinders are taken into account for Isothermal (constant temperature wall condition) and mixed gradient condition at inner cylinder, while convection cooling and constant wall concentration condition is taken at outer cylinder. The governing equations in cylindrical polar coordinates are coupled ordinary differential equations (ODEs) and are solved numerically with help of Shooting method with fourth order Runge Kutta method. A parametric study illustrating the influence of the emerging parameters on flow, heat and mass transfer components as well as on Skin Friction, Nusselt number and Sherwood number through graphical illustrations
