Haematology coulters are widely used in labs and hospitals in both diagnostic and treatment affairs. The aim of this study is to evaluate the performance of haematology coulter in comparison with the traditional manual method. Eighty blood samples obtained from adult albino rats were subjected to analysis in both methods. Results showed a significant (p ≤ 0.05) elevation in values of red blood cells, haemoglobin and mean corpuscular haemoglobin obtained from coulter compared to those of manual method, whereas monocytes count increased in coulter compared to manual method. No significant difference was observed related to total white blood cells and its fractions. Indices of mean corpuscular volume, mean corpuscular haemoglobin concentration were not significant. In conclusion, the efficiency of coulter is better than manual method. Key words: Haematology coulters; Haematology manual methods; complete blood picture

The study was undertaken to show the effect of thymus vulgaris oil administration at (0.3, 0.6 ml/kg) orally for 60 days on male fertility and epididymal sperms characters in male rats at age of 100 days. The animals treated with thyme oil at a dose of (0.6 ml) revealed a significant decrease in the weight of testes, body of epididymis, percentage of live/dead sperms and epididymyal sperm count, with a significant increase in the percentage of morphologically abnormal sperms. On the other hand the animals treated with thyme oil at a dose (0.3 ml) show a significant decrease in the weight of body of epididymis, epididymal sperm count and the percentage of live/dead sperms accompanied with a significant increase in the percentage of morphologically abnormal sperms. Its concluded from this study that thymus vulgaris has an inhibitory effect on reproductive system and spermatogenesis in mature male rats
