    Neuroticism vulnerability factors of anxiety symptoms in adolescents and early adults: an analysis using the bi-factor model and multi-wave longitudinal model

    Background Neuroticism and stress are important vulnerability factors in the development and outcome of anxiety symptoms. However, as neuroticism is a heterogeneity trait, it is still unclear how different neuroticism factors contribute to anxiety symptoms independently or in conjunction with stress. Thus, different factors of neuroticism were extracted in the present longitudinal study using the bi-factor model. The prediction effect of these different factors on anxiety symptoms and their combined effects with stress in both adolescent and adult samples were examined. Method Participants (592 adolescents and 638 young adults) in Hunan China were included. In the initial assessment in our longitudinal study, participants were asked to complete measurements that assessed neuroticism, stress, and anxiety symptoms. Next, a monthly assessment of stress and anxiety symptoms was completed for the subsequent 6 months. The bi-factor model was used to extract different factors of neuroticism. The hierarchical linear model was used to analyze longitudinal multi-wave data. Result Several model fit indices were used to evaluate the bi-factor model fit for neuroticism (adolescent: Tucker-Lewis index (TLI) = 0.957, comparative fit index (CFI) = 0.973, RMSEA = 0.040, Chi-Square = 80.471; early adults: TLI = 0.957, CFI = 0.973, RMSEA = 0.042, Chi-Square = 88.465). The results of hierarchical linear modeling analyses indicated that the general factor of neuroticism possessed a predictive effect on anxiety symptoms (adolescents: F = 36.77, p 0.05; early adults: F = 4.84, p 0.05; early adults: F = 0.02, p > 0.05); the interactive effects of the general factor and stress on anxiety symptoms were only found in early adulthood (adolescents: F = 0.13, p > 0.05; early adults: F = 11.55, p < 0.01). Conclusion Our results suggested that the bi-factor model achieved a satisfactory fit for neuroticism measurement and supported that the anxiety symptoms were induced by the main effects of the general factor in both age samples and the negative factor only in adults. The general factor of neuroticism, but not the negative factor could make an additive effect for anxiety symptoms in face of stress, which meant that the homogeneity of neuroticism played a more significant role in further anxiety symptoms than heterogeneity when coping with stress

    InstructCoder: Empowering Language Models for Code Editing

    Code editing encompasses a variety of pragmatic tasks that developers deal with daily. Despite its relevance and practical usefulness, automatic code editing remains an underexplored area in the evolution of deep learning models, partly due to data scarcity. In this work, we explore the use of large language models (LLMs) to edit code based on user instructions, covering a broad range of implicit tasks such as comment insertion, code optimization, and code refactoring. To facilitate this, we introduce InstructCoder, the first dataset designed to adapt LLMs for general-purpose code editing, containing highdiversity code-editing tasks. It consists of over 114,000 instruction-input-output triplets and covers multiple distinct code editing scenarios. The dataset is systematically expanded through an iterative process that commences with code editing data sourced from GitHub commits as seed tasks. Seed and generated tasks are used subsequently to prompt ChatGPT for more task data. Our experiments demonstrate that open-source LLMs fine-tuned on InstructCoder can edit code correctly based on users' instructions most of the time, exhibiting unprecedented code-editing performance levels. Such results suggest that proficient instruction-finetuning can lead to significant amelioration in code editing abilities.     Effectiveness of acupuncture as auxiliary combined with Western medicine for epilepsy: a systematic review and meta-analysis

    BackgroundAlthough more and more clinical studies have shown that acupuncture as an auxiliary combined with Western medicine is effective in the treatment of patients with epilepsy, no systematic reviews of acupuncture as a treatment for epilepsy have been published. Hence, we conducted this meta-analysis to evaluate the effect of acupuncture treatment on patients with epilepsy.MethodsThis study retrieved randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of acupuncture treatment for epilepsy from various electronic databases including PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Chinese BioMedical Literature Database, and Wangfang database. These studies evaluated the effectiveness of acupuncture as an auxiliary treatment combined with Western medicine for patients with epilepsy. The methodological quality of the studies was assessed using the Cochrane Handbook for Systematic Reviews of Interventions.ResultsA total of 17 RCTs involving a total of 1,389 participants were included. The results showed that acupuncture combined with Western medicine improved the effective rates of treatment (OR: 4.28; 95% CI: 3.04–6.02; p &lt; 0.001), and reduced the seizure frequency of patients (SMD: βˆ’3.29; 95% CI: βˆ’3.51 to βˆ’3.07; p &lt; 0.001) and the EEG discharge frequency (SMD: βˆ’5.58; 95% CI: βˆ’7.02 to βˆ’4.14; p &lt; 0.001). Regarding the quality of life and adverse events, the acupuncture group was superior to the control group in improving the overall quality of life of patients with epilepsy (SMD: 14.41; 95% CI: 12.51–16.32; p &lt; 0.001) and decreased adverse events (OR: 0.38; 95% CI: 0.23–0.63, p &lt; 0.001).ConclusionThe results of the analysis suggested that acupuncture combined with Western medicine is probably helpful in patients with epilepsy, but strong supportive data are not yet available. Given that this study is based on a low to moderate evidence-based analysis, the conclusions should be viewed with caution.Systematic review registrationPROSPERO, identifier no. CRD42023409923

    Sleep as a Priority:24-Hour Movement Guidelines and Mental Health of Chinese College Students during the COVID-19 Pandemic

    Research on the combined role of 24-hour movement behaviors (sleep, sedentary behavior [SB], and physical activity) in adult mental health, though important, is in its infancy. In the context of Canadian 24-hour movement guidelines integrating quantitative recommendations for sleep, SB, and moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA), this study aimed to examine the associations between meeting guidelines and mental health among college students. The study used a cross-sectional sample of 1846 Chinese college students surveyed online in August 2020. Through network analysis and multivariate analysis of covariance, the individual and combined associations between meeting 24-hour movement guidelines and the levels of depression and anxiety after adjusting sociodemographic factors were analyzed. Results indicated that meeting the sleep guideline had stronger associations with depression and anxiety than meeting the SB or MVPA guideline. Specifically, compared to meeting no guidelines, meeting the sleep guideline (alone or in combination with other guidelines) was associated with significantly lower levels of depression and anxiety; meeting both SB and MVPA guidelines was also associated with a significantly lower level of depression. Hence, meeting more guidelines, especially adhering to a healthy sleep routine, may play an important role in promoting the mental health of young adults

    Amino acid Formula induces Microbiota Dysbiosis and Depressive-Like Behavior in Mice

    Amino acid formula (AAF) is increasingly consumed in infants with cow\u27s milk protein allergy; however, the long-term influences on health are less described. In this study, we established a mouse model by subjecting neonatal mice to an amino acid diet (AAD) to mimic the feeding regimen of infants on AAF. Surprisingly, AAD-fed mice exhibited dysbiotic microbiota and increased neuronal activity in both the intestine and brain, as well as gastrointestinal peristalsis disorders and depressive-like behavior. Furthermore, fecal microbiota transplantation from AAD-fed mice or AAF-fed infants to recipient mice led to elevated neuronal activations and exacerbated depressive-like behaviors compared to that from normal chow-fed mice or cow\u27s-milk-formula-fed infants, respectively. Our findings highlight the necessity to avoid the excessive use of AAF, which may influence the neuronal development and mental health of children

    A Prospective Randomized Study of the Radiotherapy Volume for Limited-stage Small Cell Lung Cancer: A Preliminary Report

    Background and objective Controversies exists with regard to target volumes as far as thoracic radiotherapy (TRT) is concerned in the multimodality treatment for limited-stage small cell lung cancer (LSCLC). The aim of this study is to prospectively compare the local control rate, toxicity profiles, and overall survival (OS) between patients received different target volumes irradiation after induction chemotherapy. Methods LSCLC patients received 2 cycles of etoposide and cisplatin (EP) induction chemotherapy and were randomly assigned to receive TRT to either the post- or pre-chemotherapy tumor extent (GTV-T) as study arm and control arm, CTV-N included the positive nodal drainage area for both arms. One to 2 weeks after induction chemotherapy, 45 Gy/30 Fx/19 d TRT was administered concurrently with the third cycle of EP regimen. After that, additional 3 cycles of EP consolidation were administered. Prophylactic cranial irradiation (PCI) was administered to patients with a complete response. Results Thirty-seven and 40 patients were randomly assigned to study arm and control arm. The local recurrence rates were 32.4% and 28.2% respectively (P=0.80); the isolated nodal failure (INF) rate were 3.0% and 2.6% respectively (P=0.91); all INF sites were in the ipsilateral supraclavicular fossa. Medastinal N3 disease was the risk factor for INF (P=0.02, OR=14.13, 95%CI: 1.47-136.13). During radiotherapy, grade I, II weight loss was observed in 29.4%, 5.9% and 56.4%, 7.7% patients respectively (P=0.04). Grade 0-I and II-III late pulmonary injury was developed in 97.1%, 2.9% and 86.4%, 15.4% patients respectively (P=0.07). Median survival time was 22.1 months and 26.9 months respectively. The 1 to 3-year OS were 77.9%, 44.4%, 37.3% and 75.8%, 56.3%, 41.7% respectively (P=0.79). Conclusion The preliminary results of this study indicate that irradiant the post-chemotherapy tumor extent (GTV-T) and positive nodal drainage area did not decrease local control and overall survival while radiation toxicity was reduced. But the current sample size has not met designed requirements, and further investigation is warranted before final conclusions could be drawn

    UltrahighQ Sr1+xY2O4+x (x = 0–0.04) microwave dielectric ceramics for temperature-stable millimeter-wave dielectric resonator antennas

    Microwave dielectric ceramics should be improved to advance mobile communication technologies further. In this study, we prepared Sr1+xY2O4+x (x = 0–0.04) ceramics with nonstoichiometric Sr2+ ratios based on our previously reported SrY2O4 microwave dielectric ceramic, which has a low dielectric constant and an ultrahigh quality factor (Q value). The ceramic exhibited a 33.6% higher Q-by-frequency (QΓ—f) value (Q β‰ˆ 12,500) at x = 0.02 than SrY2O4. All Sr1+xY2O4+x (x = 0–0.04) ceramics exhibited pure phase structures, although variations in crystal-plane spacings were observed. The ceramics are mainly composed of Sr–O, Y1–O, and Y2–O octahedra, with the temperature coefficient of the resonant frequency (Ο„f) of the ceramic increasing with Y2–O octahedral distortion. The ceramic comprises uniform grains with a homogeneous elemental distribution, clear grain boundaries, and no obvious cavities at x = 0.02. The Sr1+xY2O4+x (x = 0–0.04) ceramics exhibited good microwave dielectric properties, with optimal performance observed at x = 0.02 (dielectric constant (Ξ΅r) = 15.41, QΓ—f = 112,375 GHz, and Ο„f = βˆ’17.44 ppm/℃). The Ο„f value was reduced to meet the temperature-stability requirements of 5G/6G communication systems by adding CaTiO3, with Sr1.02Y2O4.02+2wt%CaTiO3 exhibiting Ξ΅r = 16.14, QΓ—f = 51,004 GHz, and Ο„f = 0 ppm/℃. A dielectric resonator antenna prepared using Sr1.02Y2O4.02+2wt%CaTiO3 exhibited a central frequency of 26.6 GHz, with a corresponding gain and efficiency of 3.66 dBi and 83.14%, respectively. Consequently, Sr1.02Y2O4.02-based dielectric resonator antennas are suitable for use in 5G millimeter-wave band (24.5–27.5 GHz) applications

    Genetic Variants in <i>CPA6</i> and <i>PRPF31</i> are Associated with Variation in Response to Metformin in Individuals with Type 2 Diabetes

    Metformin is the first-line treatment for type 2 diabetes (T2D). Although widely prescribed, the glucose-lowering mechanism for metformin is incompletely understood. Here, we used a genome-wide association approach in a diverse group of individuals with T2D from the Action to Control Cardiovascular Risk in Diabetes (ACCORD) clinical trial to identify common and rare variants associated with HbA1c response to metformin treatment and followed up these findings in four replication cohorts. Common variants in PRPF31 and CPA6 were associated with worse and better metformin response, respectively (P &lt; 5 Γ— 10-6), and meta-analysis in independent cohorts displayed similar associations with metformin response (P = 1.2 Γ— 10-8 and P = 0.005, respectively). Previous studies have shown that PRPF31(+/-) knockout mice have increased total body fat (P = 1.78 Γ— 10-6) and increased fasted circulating glucose (P = 5.73 Γ— 10-6). Furthermore, rare variants in STAT3 associated with worse metformin response (q &lt;0.1). STAT3 is a ubiquitously expressed pleiotropic transcriptional activator that participates in the regulation of metabolism and feeding behavior. Here, we provide novel evidence for associations of common and rare variants in PRPF31, CPA6, and STAT3 with metformin response that may provide insight into mechanisms important for metformin efficacy in T2D
