Smart agriculture enables the efficiency and intelligence of production in physical farm management. Though promising, due to the limitation of the existing data collection methods, it still encounters few challenges that are required to be considered. Mobile Crowd Sensing (MCS) embeds three beneficial characteristics: a) cost-effectiveness, b) scalability, and c) mobility and robustness. With the Internet of Things (IoT) becoming a reality, the smart phones are widely becoming available even in remote areas. Hence, both the MCSs characteristics and the plug and play widely available infrastructure provides huge opportunities for the MCS-enabled smart agriculture.opening up several new opportunities at the application level. In this paper, we extensively evaluate the Agriculture Mobile Crowd Sensing (AMCS) and provide insights for agricultural data collection schemes. In addition, we provide a comparative study with the existing agriculture data collection solutions and conclude that AMCS has significant benefits in terms of flexibility, collecting implicit data, and low cost requirements. However, we note that AMCSs may still posses limitations in regard to data integrity and quality to be considered as a future work. To this end, we perform a detailed analysis of the challenges and opportunities that concerns the MCS-enabled agriculture by putting forward six potential applications of AMCS-enabled agriculture. Finally, we propose future research and focus on agricultural characteristics, e.g., seasonality and regionality

IntroductionThe SARS-CoV-2 Omicron variant has become the dominant SARS-CoV-2 variant and exhibits immune escape to current COVID-19 vaccines, the further boosting strategies are required.MethodsWe have conducted a non-randomized, open-label and parallel-controlled phase 4 trial to evaluate the magnitude and longevity of immune responses to booster vaccination with intramuscular adenovirus vectored vaccine (Ad5-nCoV), aerosolized Ad5-nCoV, a recombinant protein subunit vaccine (ZF2001) or homologous inactivated vaccine (CoronaVac) in those who received two doses of inactivated COVID-19 vaccines. ResultsThe aerosolized Ad5-nCoV induced the most robust and long-lasting neutralizing activity against Omicron variant and IFNg T-cell response among all the boosters, with a distinct mucosal immune response. SARS-CoV-2-specific mucosal IgA response was substantially generated in subjects boosted with the aerosolized Ad5-nCoV at day 14 post-vaccination. At month 6, participants boosted with the aerosolized Ad5-nCoV had remarkably higher median titer and seroconversion of the Omicron BA.4/5-specific neutralizing antibody than those who received other boosters. DiscussionOur findings suggest that aerosolized Ad5-nCoV may provide an efficient alternative in response to the spread of the Omicron BA.4/5 variant.Clinical trial registrationhttps://www.chictr.org.cn/showproj.html?proj=152729, identifier ChiCTR2200057278

Neurophysiological Defects and Neuronal Gene Deregulation in Drosophila mir-124 Mutants

miR-124 is conserved in sequence and neuronal expression across the animal kingdom and is predicted to have hundreds of mRNA targets. Diverse defects in neural development and function were reported from miR-124 antisense studies in vertebrates, but a nematode knockout of mir-124 surprisingly lacked detectable phenotypes. To provide genetic insight from Drosophila, we deleted its single mir-124 locus and found that it is dispensable for gross aspects of neural specification and differentiation. On the other hand, we detected a variety of mutant phenotypes that were rescuable by a mir-124 genomic transgene, including short lifespan, increased dendrite variation, impaired larval locomotion, and aberrant synaptic release at the NMJ. These phenotypes reflect extensive requirements of miR-124 even under optimal culture conditions. Comparison of the transcriptomes of cells from wild-type and mir-124 mutant animals, purified on the basis of mir-124 promoter activity, revealed broad upregulation of direct miR-124 targets. However, in contrast to the proposed mutual exclusion model for miR-124 function, its functional targets were relatively highly expressed in miR-124–expressing cells and were not enriched in genes annotated with epidermal expression. A notable aspect of the direct miR-124 network was coordinate targeting of five positive components in the retrograde BMP signaling pathway, whose activation in neurons increases synaptic release at the NMJ, similar to mir-124 mutants. Derepression of the direct miR-124 target network also had many secondary effects, including over-activity of other post-transcriptional repressors and a net incomplete transition from a neuroblast to a neuronal gene expression signature. Altogether, these studies demonstrate complex consequences of miR-124 loss on neural gene expression and neurophysiology

A Model for Direct Effect of Graphene on Mechanical Property of Al Matrix Composite

    No full text
Direct effect of graphene on mechanical property of Al matrix composite has been studied by using molecular dynamic (MD) methods. The models of graphene-reinforced composite are achieved by modeling the sintering system consisting of Al particles and graphene nanosheets (GNSs), while pure Al models are obtained by deleting graphene in the composites. Structural analysis on composites indicate the increment of GNSs can promote the densification of metal matrix, increase the porosity in composite, and restrict the metal grain size. Such analysis is also performed on pure Al models, and the similarity in structure between pure Al and composite models is confirmed by the tiny difference in the nanopores, atomic images, and the number of ordered atoms. Tensile processes on the similar structures with or without graphene reveal that the direct effect of graphene shows an obvious anisotropy, low graphene content may weaken the composite in some directions, while high graphene content can strengthen the composite in more directions. However, the highest content of GNSs just brings a slight increase of 2.7% in tensile strength. The atomic images of crack propagation and the atomic stress confirm that graphene is not efficient in load transfer. Therefore, the direct effect of graphene is believed to play a very small role in strengthening mechanisms

Risk Factors of Multidrug-Resistant Bacteria in Lower Respiratory Tract Infections: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

    No full text
Background. Multidrug-resistant (MDR) bacteria are the main cause of lower respiratory tract infections (LRTIs) with high mortality. The purpose of this study is to identify the risk factors associated with MDR by performing a systematic review and meta-analysis. Methods. PubMed, EMBASE (via Ovid), and Cochrane Library were systematically searched for studies on the risk factors for MDR bacteria in LRTIs as of November 30, 2019. Literature screening, data abstraction, and quality assessment of the eligible studies were performed independently by two researchers. Results. A total of 3,607 articles were retrieved, of which 21 articles representing 20 cohort studies published in English were included after title/abstract and full-text screening. Among the 21 articles involving 7,650 patients and 1,360 MDR organisms, ten reported the risk factors for MDR Gram-positive bacteria (GPB) and Gram-negative bacteria (GNB), ten for MDR GNB, and one for MDR GPB. The meta-analysis results suggested that prior antibiotic treatment, inappropriate antibiotic therapy, chronic lung disease, chronic liver disease and cerebral disease, prior MDR and PA infection/colonization, recent hospitalization, longer hospitalization stay, endotracheal tracheostomy and mechanical ventilation, tube feeding, nursing home residence, and higher disease severity score were independent risk factors for MDR bacteria. Conclusions. This review identified fourteen clinical factors that might increase the risk of MDR bacteria in patients with LRTIs. Clinicians could take into account these factors when selecting antibiotics for patients and determine whether coverage for MDR bacteria is required. More well-designed studies are needed to confirm the various risk factors for MDR bacteria in the future

Residents' window-opening behavior is the most basic method to obtain fresh air and improve the indoor environment, and is also an important factor affecting building energy consumption. The behavior of opening and closing windows of urban residents will be different due to regional differences. However, there are less of the thorough enough research on the time and seasonal habit of residents’ window-opening behavior in Liaoning. This paper investigated the window-opening behavior and its influencing factors of 28 typical urban households in natural ventilation and mechanical ventilation houses in Liaoning province by questionnaire survey and on-site testing. The opening and closing behavior of residents’ windows were continuously monitored online for one year by using magnetic sensors of XIAOMI brand. The long-term monitoring results showed that the window-opening behavior of residents in Liaoning has strong seasonality. In summer, the window-opening time is relatively longer, and often more than 24 hours. What’s more, most local residents have the habit of opening windows for ventilation when they get up in the morning, even in the cold winter. The understanding of the window-opening behavior of residents in this area can provide strong support for architectural design or renovation strategy
