Can inhomogeneties accelerate the cosmic volume expansion?

If expanding and contracting regions coexist in the universe, the speed of the cosmic volume expansion can be accelerated. We construct simple inhomogeneous dust-filled universe models in which the speed of the cosmic volume expansion is accelerated for finite periods. These models are constructed by removing spherical domains from the Einstein-de Sitter universe and filling each domain with a Lemaitre-Tolman-Bondi dust sphere possessing the same gravitational mass as the removed region. This represents an exact solution of the Einstein equations. We find that acceleration of the cosmic volume expansion is realized in some cases when the size of the contracting region is comparable to the horizon radius of the Einstein-de Sitter universe though this model is very different from the universe observed today. This result implies that non-linear general relativistic effects of inhomogeneities are very important to realize the acceleration of the cosmic volume expansion.Comment: 12 pages,5 figures. version published in Progress of Theoretical Physic

Gravitational waves detectable in laser interferometers from axion-SU(2) inflation

Chromo-natural inflation (CNI) is an inflationary model where an axion coupled with SU(2)(2) gauge fields acts as the inflaton. In CNI, the gauge fields have nonzero vacuum expectation values (VEVs), which results in the enhancement of gravitational waves (GWs). The original CNI is ruled out by the Planck observations due to the overproduction of GWs. In this work, we consider an inflationary model where the gauge fields acquire nonzero VEVs after the CMB modes exit the horizon. Moreover, we add to the model another field that dominates the universe and drives inflation after the axion starts to oscillate and the gauge field VEVs vanish. By performing numerical simulations, we find a parameter space where the enhanced GWs do not violate the CMB constraints and can be detected by the future GWs observations such as LISA, BBO, and ET.Comment: 20pages, 8 figure

Redshift Drift in LTB Void Universes

We study the redshift drift, i.e., the time derivative of the cosmological redshift in the Lema\^itre-Tolman-Bondi (LTB) solution in which the observer is assumed to be located at the symmetry center. This solution has often been studied as an anti-Copernican universe model to explain the acceleration of cosmic volume expansion without introducing the concept of dark energy. One of decisive differences between LTB universe models and Copernican universe models with dark energy is believed to be the redshift drift. The redshift drift is negative in all known LTB universe models, whereas it is positive in the redshift domain z2z \lesssim 2 in Copernican models with dark energy. However, there have been no detailed studies on this subject. In the present paper, we prove that the redshift drift of an off-center source is always negative in the case of LTB void models. We also show that the redshift drift can be positive with an extremely large hump-type inhomogeneity. Our results suggest that we can determine whether we live near the center of a large void without dark energy by observing the redshift drift.Comment: 16 pages, 2 figure

Dependency of tensile strength of ductile cast iron on strain rate and temperature

The dependency of the tensile strength σ smooth B and the notch strength σ notch B on strain rate and temperature were investigated for conventional ferrite-pearlite type ductile cast iron (JIS-FCD500) to make clear the applicability of ductile cast iron to components for welded steel structures. High speed tensile tests were conducted on notched and smooth specimens with varying strain rate and temperature. Charpy absorbed energy was also evaluated on notched specimen with varying temperature. It is found that the tensile strength is in a good relationship with strain rate-temperature parameter R for the wide range of strain rate and temperature. With decreasing R parameter, both σ smooth B and σ notch B increase even when Charpy absorbed energy starts decreasing. It should be noted that the notch strength σ notch B is always larger than the tensile strength at room temperature σ smooth B, RT in the range of R parameter required for the welded structures. Therefore, the tensile strength σ smooth B, RT is confirmed to be useful for the structural design.12th International Conference on Damage Assessment of Structures, 10–12 July 2017, Kitakyushu, Japa

腎障害患者におけるレムデシビルの薬物動態モデルを構築 --新型コロナウイルス感染症治療薬の適正使用に向けて--. 京都大学プレスリリース. 2021-11-25.Remdesivir, a prodrug of the nucleoside analog GS-441524, plays a key role in the treatment of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). However, owing to limited information on clinical trials and inexperienced clinical use, there is a lack of pharmacokinetic (PK) data in patients with COVID-19 with special characteristics. In this study, we aimed to measure serum GS-441524 concentrations and develop a population PK (PopPK) model. Remdesivir was administered at a 200 mg loading dose on the first day followed by 100 mg from day 2, based on the package insert, in patients with an estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) greater than or equal to 30 ml/min. In total, 190 concentrations from 37 Japanese patients were used in the analysis. The GS-441524 trough concentrations were significantly higher in the eGFR less than 60 ml/min group than in the eGFR greater than or equal to 60 ml/min group. Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation in four patients hardly affected the total body clearance (CL) and volume of distribution (Vd) of GS-441524. A one-compartment model described serum GS-441524 concentration data. The CL and Vd of GS-441524 were significantly affected by eGFR readjusted by individual body surface area and age, respectively. Simulations proposed a dose regimen of 200 mg on day 1 followed by 100 mg once every 2 days from day 2 in patients with an eGFR of 30 ml/min or less. In conclusion, we successfully established a PopPK model of GS-441524 using retrospectively obtained serum GS-441524 concentrations in Japanese patients with COVID-19, which would be helpful for optimal individualized therapy of remdesivir
