THE STUDENTS' PERCEPTIONS ABOUT THEIR FIELD AT SCHOOL OF VOCATIONAL

    No full text
As it is well-known, students' vocational choice and students' personally types are very important regarding of the effectiveness of academic programs. This research aims at clarifying the relation between students' personality types and their choices by using students' perceptions. The research has been conducted on 352 students attending at School of Vocational Studies. According to the research findings, there are strong relationships between students' personality types and their choices.Based on The Five Factor Model, Inventory is an evaluation tool which is improved according to the Turkish culture. Validity and reliability analysis (dimensional self consistency cofactors vary between 0,71 and 0,88; test repeat cofactors vary between 0,83 and 0,91) show that inventory consists strong psychometric features. The results obtained from inventory were evaluated by using raw points and not norm points. In the short version of the Inventory only the five dimensions (openness for experience, responsibility consciousness, being extrovert, compatibleness, emotional balance) of the character are evaluated using total 25 attributes. The answers for the attitudes are classified in Likert scale 5. If the answers are totally suitable the grade given is 5, if totally not suitable the grade given is 1

The mandibles of thirty-five German shepherd dogs without skeletal disorders were measured morphometrically. The length and the angle of the mandibles were measured and the correlation was determined between the female and male dogs. Mandible measurements increased with the age of the animals. in males, the value of the 1A and 2A angle was not statistically significant when considering age. In females, a decrease in the 1A and 5A angles was determined while no statistically significant value was determined in 2A, 3A and 4A with age. In conclusion, morphological observations and the results of the measurements have shown that German Shepherd dogs have no prognathism and brachygnatic mandible

The estimation of withers height of ancient horse : New estimation formulations by using the metacarpal measurements of living horse

    No full text
In this study, a total of 150 horses have been used from different modern (living) breeds. They include Arab, Thoroughbred, German-Holstein, Haflinger and Hungarian Warmblood horse breeds. Thirty individuals have been chosen (15 mares and 15 stallions) from each of these breeds. Following the withers height measurements, gender and age of the horses, the radiography of the metacarpals were taken. Metacarpal measurements were taken radiographically in third metacarpal bones of the living horses by using a mobile X-Ray device with DR System Flat Panel detector. Then, regression formulae to be used in the estimation of withers height were determined by using the metacarpal measurements. "Stepwise regression", in particular, was preferred in this analysis. Thus, models possessing the highest coefficient of determination with the least factors were formed. Also, multipliers were obtained according to the height of the withers/greatest length and lateral length on the outer side model. These formulations and multipliers were models including joint space, muscle and skin, in relation to the formulation and multipliers reported in the very limited and debatable literary data. Therefore, the debatable points and shortcomings of old formulations obtained from montage skeletons were rectified

Tracheal reconstruction with porous high-density polyethylene tracheal prosthesis

The variety of methods used for the treatment of severe tracheal stenosis and the occasional failure to obtain lasting and consistent relief are measures of the difficulty of the problem. Presently, several surgical approaches are used for reconstructing large defects of the cervical trachea, reminding us that no single technique has gained wide clinical acceptance. We resected a U-shaped cartilage from 6 to 8 rings of the trachea of 10 New Zealand rabbits. We used a porous high-density polyethylene (PHDP) prosthesis to reconstruct the cervical trachea, and did not perform a tracheotomy during this operation. We followed up the rabbits for 4 to 10 months. One of the rabbits died in the second month because of respiratory distress; another was lost in the fourth month of the study while delivering young. The others continued to thrive; in fact, one of them gave birth 3 times after our study and wits well able to take care of her young. At the end of the study, the rabbits were painlessly sacrificed in order to remove the larynx and trachea and examine them histopathologically. In the histopathologic examinations, the prostheses were incorporated into the native trachea and adhered to the surrounding organs, especially to the esophagus. No mucosal irregularities were seen on the surface of the prosthesis, and all the surfaces appeared to be covered with ciliated pseudostratified epithelium. This tracheal prosthesis provides good results in rabbit tracheal reconstruction, and appears very promising for the clinical repair of tracheal defects

Bioimpedance spectroscopy for the detection of hypervolemia in hemodialysis patients [Hemodiyaliz hastalarinda hipervoleminin gösterilmesinde biyoimpedans spektroskopinin yeri]

INTRODUCTION: A practical, inexpensive and reliable method is needed for assessment of volume status in hemodialysis (HD) patients. In this study the efficiency of bioimpedance spectroscopy (BIS) for detection of hypervolemia was investigated. MATERIAL and METHODS: A total of 172 prevalent HD patients were enrolled from 2 centers. Echocardiography, 48-hours ambulatory blood pressure (BP) measurement, and body composition analysis using the BIS technique (50 frequencies) (Body Composition Monitor) were performed. Overhydration (OH) and extracellular water (ECW) in liters, and the OH/ECW ratio were used as volume indices. RESULTS: The mean age was 52±13 years and HD duration 60±43 months. Of the cases, 41% were female, 17% were diabetic. The mean left ventricular mass index (LVMi) was 159±42 gr/m2 and 77% of the patients had left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH). The mean OH and OH/ECW ratio were 2.1±1.6 L and 11±8%, respectively. OH/ECW ratio was correlated with day-time systolic BP (r:0.383, p<0.0001), night-time systolic BP (r:0.380, p<0.0001), pulse pressure-48h (r:0.413, p<0.0001), left atrium index (LAi) (r:0.301, p<0.0001), LVMi (r:0.378, p<0.0001) and ejection fraction (EF) (r:-0.239, p:0.002). Patients with OH/ECW ratio lower than 5% had favorable cardiovascular risk profile. On linear regression analysis, the OH/ECW ratio was an independent risk factor for LAi (t:3.00, p:0.003), LVMi (t:2.77, p:0.006) and EF (t:-2.34, p:0.02). CONCLUSION: Bioimpedance spectroscopy is a reliable method to evaluate volume status in HD patients. OH/ECW measured by BIS is a major determinant of left atrial diameter, left ventricular mass and ejection fraction. An OH/ECW value less than 5% is associated with acceptable blood pressure control and better cardiac condition
