    Impact of Asian cultural values upon leadership roles and styles

    In light of an increasingly integrated society, in-depth research is needed to explore how particular perceived values may guide leadership behaviour by measuring the everyday actions of employees. As Asian individual values become collective, there is an increased likelihood that they will be perceived as cultural values that translate into expectations of leadership roles. This article considers the impact of changes in leadership roles from a role theory perspective, based on Asian values leading to changes in leadership styles. The sample is taken from an organised industrial zone which consists of a high immigrant workforce that continues to grow. The research was conducted in western Turkey but has appeared in leading survey results on Asian cultural values. This study found significant symbolic interactionism between values and leadership roles. There were also correlations between roles and leadership styles, since leaders also influence the interpersonal roles of their employees. Among managers involved in decision-making and information processing, an autocratic participative leadership style has emerged. Points for practitioners In every organisation, leaders should be aware of values in their organisations by measuring the everyday actions of employees. To become proficient leaders, they should learn to act in a manner suitable to the roles expected by their subordinates. Furthermore, to be efficient, leaders should adopt what is considered a 'proper' style through comparison to the indicated roles. In a nutshell, leadership, values and leadership styles are interference acts that affect all processes, from recruitment to strategic management

    Mini-laparotomic Colpotomy for a Cervicovaginal Leiomyoma: Preservation of hymenal integrity

    Background: Leiomyomas are the most common benign tumors of the uterus. Removal of the prolapsed pedunculated submucous myoma represents a distinct entity. Evaluation and treatment of such cases may need intervention via the hymen.Mini-laparotomic management of a pedunculated submucous myoma while preserving hymen integrity in a virginal patient is described as a safe alternative.. Case: A 30-year old, nulliparous virgin woman admitted to the outpatient- clinic with the complaint of irregular menstrual bleeding ongoing for three months. Pelvic ultrasound revealed a 5×6 cm solid mass in the cervico-vaginal location that filled the vaginal margins. Due to the patient’s consistent desire for preserving hymenal integrity, mini-laparotomic colpotomy was performed and the mass was removed successfully. Conclusion: Mini-laparotomic colpotomy, preserving hymen integrity, provides excellent visualization and it is a convenient and effective tool in the management of a cervicovaginal pedunculated submucous myom

    To present a case of chylous ascites after staging surgery for endometrial carcinoma A 57 years old postmenopausal woman was operated for endometrial cancer, chylous ascites developed after this surgery. Chylous ascites was treated conservatively include low fat diet and medium chained triglyceride parenterally. Chylous ascites may be successfully managed with conservative approach without surgical intervention

    Impact of cultural values on leadership roles and paternalistic style from the role theory perspective

    Purpose This paper researches the effects of the cultural context from values' ground on leadership roles and the effects of roles on styles. The idea behind this study is to show that cultural communities have different cultural models regarding the kinds of roles leaders should or should not play. Design/methodology/approach The sample was chosen from the part of the town where the immigrant workforce is growing, as well as it is the closest growing economic area to Europe in Turkey. Findings The analysis shows that cultural values significantly affect leadership roles. Additionally, there is a correlation between roles and paternalistic leadership style. Asian cultural values do affect leadership roles more than Western values. Additionally, each culture is diminishing the other. As leadership roles increase, they are acting as paternalistic leadership substitutes. Originality/value Interestingly we have introduced paternalistic leadership substitutes to literature and showed that paternalistic leadership is not only culturally but also contextually bounded

    Fraser syndrome is a rare autosomal recessive disorder consisting of multiple anomalies including variable expression of cryptophthalmos, syndactyly, abnormal genitalia, malformations of the nose, ear and larynx, renal agenesis, oro-facial clefts, skeletal defects, umbilical hernia and mental retardation. Antenatally detected multiple congenital fetal anomalies during 22nd week of gestation is reported in this paper. Fraser Syndrome was diagnosed according to major and minor criteria. Early antenatal detection is mandatory and clinician should be awere of the high recurrence rates of this syndrome among siblings threatening subsequent pregnancies and should inform affected families

    A Case of Meig’s Syndrome Mimicking Ovarian Malignancy: A Diagnostic Challenge

    Ovarian malignancies, especially in advanced stages, are typically presented by ascites and elevated serum Ca-125 levels. Rarely pleural effusion could be seen in these cases due to metastasis or diaphragmatic transportation. Meig’s syndrome defines coexistence of a benign ovarian tumor (fibroma, tecoma or granulose cell tumor), ascites and hydrothorax. In this report, a case of postmenauposal adnexial mass with acute ascites and elevated serum Ca-125 level, that was suspicious for an adnexial malignancy preoperatively. Intraoperative frozen section analysis revealed ovarian tecoma. Meig’s syndrome is a benign pathology that mimicks ovarian malignancy. Differential diagnosis of these two situations is a diagnostic challenge especially in postmenauposal women. Intraoperative frozen section is an important diagnostic method for accurate diagnosis and proper treatment
