PERSONALITY AND JOB OUTCOMES: MEDIATION OF ETHICAL IDEOLOGY
Purpose: This study aims to theorize new conceptual linkages between two popular paradigms of management research personality (Big Five Trait) and ethics (Ethical Ideology). Big Five personality traits and ethical ideology dimensions (idealism and relativism) relationship with job outcomes such as interpersonal conflict, workplace deviance, and Organizational Citizenship Behavior (OCB) were proposed.
Methodology: This study adopted a longitudinal field survey design. Data analysis for descriptive, regression, and correlation techniques, was done using SPSS v 17 whereas conduct Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) of study variables was done using AMOS v 16.
Main Findings: Results revealed significant association of i) extraversion, conscientiousness, and agreeableness with OCB, ii) Agreeableness and neuroticism with workplace deviance and iii) agreeableness, openness to experience, neuroticism with interpersonal conflict. Moreover, agreeableness was a significant predictor of idealism ethical ideology, neuroticism and openness to experience were significant predictors of relativism ethical ideology. Idealism significantly predicted interpersonal conflict and OCB and relativism significantly predicted workplace deviance and interpersonal conflict. Idealism ethical ideology mediated between extraversion and interpersonal conflict, agreeableness and interpersonal conflict as well as OCB. On the other hand, relativism ethical ideology mediated between openness to experience and interpersonal conflict. Similarly, relativism also mediated between neuroticism and two job outcomes (interpersonal conflict, workplace deviance).
Limitations/ Applications: Future research directions and implications for theory and practice are suggested.
Novelty/Originality of this study: This study explained the conceptual mechanism that individual outcomes of the Big Five traits are determined through the ethical ideology of the respective personality trait; moreover, this study also added empirical evidence in existing OB literature from a unique cultural context i.e., Pakistan
IMPACT OF WORKLOAD ON INNOVATIVE PERFORMANCE: MODERATING ROLE OF EXTROVERT
Purpose: The aim of this study was to find the Impact of Workload on Innovative Performance. This study also finds out the moderating Role of extrovert. This study was conducted in service sector in different cities of Pakistan. A time lag design was used in this study because the time-lag method is more suitable method especially in case of theoretical causal study.
Methodology: At stage one; the self-reported questionnaire was used to collect the data from employee on workload and extraversion. Moreover, after one month, at stage two; a data from concerned supervisors on employee’s innovative performance were collected. The population of this study consisted of the permanent and contractual employees working in different organizations of Pakistan. A sample size of the study was (n=230) and convenience sampling technique was used.
Main Findings: Results show that there is no significant relationship between workload and innovative behavior. Moreover, extraversion was found to have no significant impact on innovative performance. However, it was found that the interaction term of workload and extraversion has a significant negative impact on innovative performance.
Implications/Applications: The present study is useful for policymakers and managers in Pakistan. As it has provided insight to employees’ behaviors, the way an employee reacts when he exposed to workload. It is up to the concerned authorities to pay keen attention to their employees and to make sure that extroverts are not embedded with workload
Dealing with high talent turnover through talent engagement strategies:a study of the hotel sector in Thailand
The hotel sector faces high team member turnover, incredibly talented workers who can contribute to outstanding performance and levelling world-class standards. Hotels need strategies to engage their talent effectively to maintain competitiveness. This paper used qualitative research, of which (38) semi-structured interviews were accompanied by key informants at the management level and supplemented by documentation and observation. The research revealed that effective talent engagement is linked directly to the well-known theory of effective talent management. Thus, the national culture influences talent engagement strategies. Within Thai culture, managers act as ‘parents’ and build strong interpersonal relationships
Identifying Students' Entrepreneurian Mindset for the Bachelor of Business Administration Program, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Prince of Songkla University
University graduates today are facing uncertainty in employment due to economic recession, the COVID-[19 ]pandemic, and job replacement by artificial intelligence. Building an entrepreneurial mindset can help students to overcome unemployment and have a successful careers. Therefore, universities are increasingly focusing on fostering the entrepreneurial mindset of their students. Certain elements of entrepreneurial mindset must be identified at the curriculum and career design level to meet the requirements of stakeholders and prepare students for their careers after graduation. According to the principles of outcome-based education, a study program must establish its expected learning outcomes which the students must be encouraged to achieve. However, the extent to which the elements of an entrepreneurial mindset are necessary to support learning outcomes and career success can be different among students from different fields of study. This study identifies the elements of students’ entrepreneurial mindset that are necessary for the Bachelor of Business Administration Program (B.B.A. Program), Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Prince of Songkla University (Pattani Campus) located in Southernmost Thailand. The past studies of entrepreneurial mindset have been revealed, and then the elements of entrepreneurial mindset related to the expected learning outcomes of the B.B.A. Program were selected. The elements of an entrepreneurial mindset presented in this article could be utilized for curriculum and course design, not only for the B.B.A. Program but also for others with similar expected learning outcomes.
