    Study of reaction pi- A --> pi+pi-pi- A at VES setup

    The results on partial wave analysis of 3pi system produced at beam momentum 36.6 GeV/c on beryllium target are presented. New method of amplitude analysis is suggested -- extraction of largest eigenvalue of density matrix. Exotic wave with JPC = 1-+ in rho pi system is studied in four t' regions. No narrow object around M = 1.6 GeV is found.     The heavy quark expansion of Quantum Chromodynamics and the strong coupling flux tube picture of nonperturbative glue are employed to develop the phenomenology of hybrid meson decays. The decay mechanism explicitly couples gluonic degrees of freedom to the pair produced quarks and hence does not obey the well known, but model-dependent, selection rule which states that hybrids do not decay to pairs of L=0 mesons. However, the nonperturbative nature of gluonic excitations in the flux tube picture leads to a new selection rule: light hybrids do not decay to pairs of identical mesons.     A search for J^{PC}=1^{-+} exotic mesons in the pi- pi- pi+ and pi- pi0 pi0 systems

    A partial wave analysis (PWA) of the pi-pi-pi+ and pi-pi0pi0 systems produced in the reaction pi- p -> (3pi)-p at 18 GeV/c was carried out using an isobar model assumption. This analysis is based on 3.0M pi-pi0pi0 events and 2.6M pi-pi-pi+ events and shows production of the a2(1320), pi2(1670) and \pi(1800) mesons. An earlier analysis of 250K pi-pi-pi+ events from the same experiment showed possible evidence for a J^{PC}=1^{-+}$ exotic meson with a mass of 1.6 GeV/c^2 decaying into rho pi. In this analysis of a higher statistics sample of the (3pi)- system in two charged modes we find no evidence of an exotic meson.Comment: 4 pages, 5 figures, added comment about the negative reflectivity exotic wave

    A new approach to developing a logistic regression model variables to predict tree mortality, based on tree-ring growth dynamics

    The annual tree increment is one of the integral indicators of abiotic and biotic processes occurring in the forest ecosystem. The use of logistic regression models based on annual tree-ring growth data is a promising approach to studying tree mortality. The diversity of logistic variables in scientific research is a result of various choices of statistics (average, median, growth trend, etc.) and their score in the time-window for the past N (5, 10, ..., 40) years. We propose a new scheme for the formation of logistic variables that involves fixing the statistics for calculating the average and choosing two non-intersecting time-windows based on measurements of the annual tree-rings growth. The choice of non-overlapping «windows» enables setting the ratio of the average growth of annual rings of trees between the windows for different periods of time. We examined the past 41 years of tree growth. Logistic regression models are constructed on a set of pairs of non-intersecting «windows» with a limit on the values of the sensitivity and specification of at least 1.6. The calculation of the percentage prediction if a tree is living or dying was done based on the contingency table in the logistic regression model. The logistic regression models were visualized using ROC curves. The models were compared on an expert scale based on the calculated area under the ROC curves. The obtained logistic regression model was verified by the bootstrap method. The calculations were carried out for the Siberian stone pine Pinus sibirica du Tour growing in the Baikal region (the Khamar-Daban Ridge) using the R programming language. The computed logistic regression model helped us predict live and dead trees in more than 80 % of cases

    Search for f1(1285)π+ππ0f_1(1285) \to \pi^+\pi^-\pi^0 decay with VES detector

    The isospin violating decay f1(1285)π+ππ0f_1(1285)\to\pi^+\pi^-\pi^0 has been studied at VES facility. This study is based at the statistics acquired in πBe\pi^- Be interactions at 27, 36.6 and 41 GeV/c in diffractive reaction πN(f1π)N\pi^- N \to (f_1 \pi^-) N. The f1(1285)π+ππ0f_1(1285) \to \pi^+\pi^-\pi^0 decay is observed. The ratio of decay probabilities BR(f1(1285)π+ππ0)BR(f_1(1285) \to \pi^+\pi^-\pi^0) to BR(f1(1285)ηπ+π)BR(ηγγ)BR(f_1(1285) \to \eta \pi^+\pi^-) \cdot BR(\eta \to \gamma\gamma) is 1.4\sim\:1.4%.Comment: 10 pages, 8 figures, presented at XII Conference on Hadron Spectroscop

    The model for constituent glue is presented starting from the perturbation theory in nonperturbative QCD vacuum. Green function is constructed for a system containing qqbar pair and gluon propagating in the vacuum background field, and Hamiltonian approach to the problem is formulated.     Exotic Meson Production in the f1(1285)πf_{1}(1285)\pi^{-} System observed in the Reaction πpηπ+ππp\pi^{-} p \to \eta\pi^{+}\pi^{-}\pi^{-} p at 18 GeV/c

    This letter reports results from the partial wave analysis of the πππ+η\pi^{-}\pi^{-}\pi^{+}\eta final state in πp\pi^{-}p collisions at 18GeV/c. Strong evidence is observed for production of two mesons with exotic quantum numbers of spin, parity and charge conjugation, JPC=1+J^{PC} = 1^{-+} in the decay channel f1(1285)πf_{1}(1285)\pi^{-}. The mass M=1709±24±41M = 1709 \pm 24 \pm 41 MeV/c^2 and width Γ=403±80±115\Gamma = 403 \pm 80 \pm 115 MeV/c^2 of the first state are consistent with the parameters of the previously observed π1(1600)\pi_{1}(1600). The second resonance with mass M=2001±30±92M = 2001 \pm 30 \pm 92 MeV/c^2 and width Γ=333±52±49\Gamma = 333 \pm 52 \pm 49 MeV/c^2 agrees very well with predictions from theoretical models. In addition, the presence of π2(1900)\pi_{2}(1900) is confirmed with mass M=2003±88±148M = 2003 \pm 88 \pm 148 MeV/c^2 and width Γ=306±132±121\Gamma = 306 \pm 132 \pm 121 MeV/c^2 and a new state, a1(2096)a_{1}(2096), is observed with mass M=2096±17±121M = 2096 \pm 17 \pm 121 MeV/c^2 and width Γ=451±41±81\Gamma = 451 \pm 41 \pm 81 MeV/c^2. The decay properties of these last two states are consistent with flux tube model predictions for hybrid mesons with non-exotic quantum numbers
