Excluded Volume Effects in the Quark Meson Coupling Model

Excluded volume effects are incorporated in the quark meson coupling model to take into account in a phenomenological way the hard core repulsion of the nuclear force. The formalism employed is thermodynamically consistent and does not violate causality. The effects of the excluded volume on in-medium nucleon properties and the nuclear matter equation of state are investigated as a function of the size of the hard core. It is found that in-medium nucleon properties are not altered significantly by the excluded volume, even for large hard core radii, and the equation of state becomes stiffer as the size of the hard core increases.Comment: 14 pages, revtex, 6 figure

Self-consistent solution of the Schwinger-Dyson equations for the nucleon and meson propagators

The Schwinger-Dyson equations for the nucleon and meson propagators are solved self-consistently in an approximation that goes beyond the Hartree-Fock approximation. The traditional approach consists in solving the nucleon Schwinger-Dyson equation with bare meson propagators and bare meson-nucleon vertices; the corrections to the meson propagators are calculated using the bare nucleon propagator and bare nucleon-meson vertices. It is known that such an approximation scheme produces the appearance of ghost poles in the propagators. In this paper the coupled system of Schwinger-Dyson equations for the nucleon and the meson propagators are solved self-consistently including vertex corrections. The interplay of self-consistency and vertex corrections on the ghosts problem is investigated. It is found that the self-consistency does not affect significantly the spectral properties of the propagators. In particular, it does not affect the appearance of the ghost poles in the propagators.Comment: REVTEX, 7 figures (available upon request), IFT-P.037/93, DOE/ER/40427-12-N9

Self-consistent quantum effects in the quark meson coupling model

We derive the equation of state of nuclear matter including vacuum polarization effects arising from the nucleons and the sigma mesons in the quark-meson coupling model which incorporates explicitly quark degrees of freedom with quark coupled to the scalar and vector mesons. This leads to a softer equation of state for nuclear matter giving a lower value of incompressibility than would be reached without quantum effects. The {\it in-medium} nucleon and sigma meson masses are also calculated in a self-consistent manner.Comment: 10 pages, latex, 5 figure

Bandlimited approximations to the truncated Gaussian and applications

In this paper we extend the theory of optimal approximations of functions f:RRf: \R \to \R in the L1(R)L^1(\R)-metric by entire functions of prescribed exponential type (bandlimited functions). We solve this problem for the truncated and the odd Gaussians using explicit integral representations and fine properties of truncated theta functions obtained via the maximum principle for the heat operator. As applications, we recover most of the previously known examples in the literature and further extend the class of truncated and odd functions for which this extremal problem can be solved, by integration on the free parameter and the use of tempered distribution arguments. This is the counterpart of the work \cite{CLV}, where the case of even functions is treated.Comment: to appear in Const. Appro

Isospin-Violating Meson-Nucleon Vertices as an Alternate Mechanism of Charge-Symmetry Breaking

    Get PDF
We compute isospin-violating meson-nucleon coupling constants and their consequent charge-symmetry-breaking nucleon-nucleon potentials. The couplings result from evaluating matrix elements of quark currents between nucleon states in a nonrelativistic constituent quark model; the isospin violations arise from the difference in the up and down constituent quark masses. We find, in particular, that isospin violation in the omega-meson--nucleon vertex dominates the class IV CSB potential obtained from these considerations. We evaluate the resulting spin-singlet--triplet mixing angles, the quantities germane to the difference of neutron and proton analyzing powers measured in elastic np\vec{n}-\vec{p} scattering, and find them commensurate to those computed originally using the on-shell value of the ρ\rho-ω\omega mixing amplitude. The use of the on-shell ρ\rho-ω\omega mixing amplitude at q2=0q^2=0 has been called into question; rather, the amplitude is zero in a wide class of models. Our model possesses no contribution from ρ\rho-ω\omega mixing at q2=0q^2=0, and we find that omega-meson exchange suffices to explain the measured npn-p analyzing power difference~at~183 MeV.Comment: 20 pages, revtex, 3 uuencoded PostScript figure

    Λc+\Lambda^+_c- and Λb\Lambda_b-hypernuclei

Λc+\Lambda^+_c- and Λb\Lambda_b-hypernuclei are studied in the quark-meson coupling (QMC) model. Comparisons are made with the results for Λ\Lambda-hypernuclei studied in the same model previously. Although the scalar and vector potentials felt by the Λ\Lambda, Λc+\Lambda_c^+ and Λb\Lambda_b in the corresponding hypernuclei multiplet which has the same baryon numbers are quite similar, the wave functions obtained, e.g., for 1s1/21s_{1/2} state, are very different. The Λc+\Lambda^+_c baryon density distribution in Λc+209^{209}_{\Lambda^+_c}Pb is much more pushed away from the center than that for the Λ\Lambda in Λ209^{209}_\LambdaPb due to the Coulomb force. On the contrary, the Λb\Lambda_b baryon density distributions in Λb\Lambda_b-hypernuclei are much larger near the origin than those for the Λ\Lambda in the corresponding Λ\Lambda-hypernuclei due to its heavy mass. It is also found that level spacing for the Λb\Lambda_b single-particle energies is much smaller than that for the Λ\Lambda and Λc+\Lambda^+_c.Comment: Latex, 14 pages, 4 figures, text was extended, version to appear in Phys. Observers and Locality in Everett Quantum Field Theory

A model for measurement in collapse-free nonrelativistic fermionic quantum field theory is presented. In addition to local propagation and effectively-local interactions, the model incorporates explicit representations of localized observers, thus extending an earlier model of entanglement generation in Everett quantum field theory [M. A. Rubin, Found. Phys. 32, 1495-1523 (2002)]. Transformations of the field operators from the Heisenberg picture to the Deutsch-Hayden picture, involving fictitious auxiliary fields, establish the locality of the model. The model is applied to manifestly-local calculations of the results of measurements, using a type of sudden approximation and in the limit of massive systems in narrow-wavepacket states. Detection of the presence of a spin-1/2 system in a given spin state by a freely-moving two-state observer illustrates the features of the model and the nonperturbative computational methodology. With the help of perturbation theory the model is applied to a calculation of the quintessential "nonlocal" quantum phenomenon, spin correlations in the Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen-Bohm experiment.Comment: Some changes to introduction and discussion sections, typos corrected, conclusions unchanged. Labor law reform in focus: deconstruction of social protection in times of authoritarian neoliberalism

    No full text
Seu objetivo é disseminar a lógica da empregabilidade e do empreendedorismo em detrimento da proteção social atrelada ao assalariamento.40CONSELHO NACIONAL DE DESENVOLVIMENTO CIENTÍFICO E TECNOLÓGICO - CNPQSem informaçãoThis paper analyzes the labor law reform and its first impacts on the labor market. The aim is to highlight it as an instrument of deconstruction of social rights whose character reiterates the authoritarian bias of the ultraneoliberal policies implemented in the country. It is argued that labor law reform is based on a tripod (flexibilization of labor relations, weakening of institutions of protection and individualization of risks) that condemns workers to greater social vulnerability. The analysis of indicators shows their failure by increasing unemployment and informality. It is argued, in the end, that the purpose of the reform is to disseminate the logic of employability and entrepreneurship to the detriment of social protection linked to wage employment
