Uma coleção de história em um museu de ciências naturais: o Museu Paulista de Hermann von Ihering

Instalado em um edifício-Monumento, data de 1895 a inauguração do Museu Paulista. Seu primeiro diretor, o zoólogo Hermann Von Ihering (1895-1916), teve a tarefa de organizar suas vastas coleções, as quais possuíam objetos de diversos ramos do conhecimento, entre eles, a História. Este artigo tem a intenção de entender a dimensão, dinâmica e concepção desta coleção de História, que recebeu pouca atenção da Historiografia relativa ao tema.The Museu Paulista, installed in a landmark building, was inaugurated in 1895. Its first director, the zoologist Herman von Ihering (1895-1916) undertook the assignment of organizing its extensive collections, which comprehended objects pertaining to varied fields of knowledge, including that of History. The present article aims at understanding the dimension, the dynamics and the conception of this historical collection. De uma "cientificidade difusa": o coronel e as práticas colecionistas do Museu Sertório na São Paulo em fins do século XIX

This article intends to examine the collecting practices of the private collection known as Museu Sertório, which became Museu Paulista's first main collection. For that, a brief biography of Colonel Joaquim Sertório, the owner of the Museum, will be presented, as well as aspects of the collections' organization, in order to reflect on Sertório's supposed dilettantism in scientific fields, since the museum was associated with an educational project of the period. A parallel between Museu Sertório and the Ashmolean Museum of Art and Archaelogy, of Oxford University, will also be made, in order to better understand its insertion in nineteenth-century São Paulo.Este artigo pretende examinar as práticas colecionistas realizadas em torno do Museu Sertório, uma coleção particular que veio a constituir o primeiro núcleo do acervo do Museu Paulista. Para tanto, serão apresentados alguns dados biográficos inéditos sobre o proprietário do Museu, o coronel Joaquim Sertório, bem como aspectos da organização das coleções, buscando, assim, refletir sobre o suposto amadorismo de Sertório no campo das ciências, uma vez que a abertura do acervo à visitação pública estava associada à intenção de vincular o museu a fins educativos. Procura-se, igualmente, traçar um paralelo entre a trajetória do Museu Sertório com a do Ashmolean Museum of Art and Archaelogy da Universidade de Oxford, Inglaterra, a fim de melhor compreender a sua inserção na São Paulo de fins do século XIX

O Museu Sertório: uma coleção particular em São Paulo no final do século XIX (primeiro acervo do Museu Paulista)

Este artigo pretende rastrear e recuperar a coleção particular conhecida como Museu Sertório, que, embora tenha se constituído como o primeiro núcleo do acervo do Museu Paulista, é um tema ainda pouco explorado na historiografia. De propriedade do coronel Joaquim Sertório, a coleção tornou-se um museu privado na cidade de São Paulo, ganhando relevância na segunda metade do século XIX. As peças a ele pertencentes foram doadas ao governo paulista em 1890, tornando-se o embrião do acervo do Museu Paulista, que viria a ser inaugurado, em 1895, no Monumento do Ipiranga.This research intends to trace and recover information about the private collection known as Museu Sertorio, which became Museu Paulista's first main collection. This subject matter hasn't been bestowed upon it by the specialized historiography. This collection, a private museum in São Paulo, belonged to Colonel Joaquim Sertorio, and it became famous in the second half of the 19th century. This museum was donated to São Paulo estate government in 1890, from which Museu Paulista was created; it officialy opened in 1895 at the Ipiranga Monument

This article studies the origins, flourishment and decadence of a certain style of\ud building, known as swiss cottages or chalets, in the urban environment of Sao Paulo. Its source\ud is found in 19th century romanticism and in the last quarter of the eighteen hundreds this kind\ud of construction was very popular. At this time it had taken on a high symbolic value although\ud of an ambiguous nature - for it was both intimately associated to an idealization of country\ud life and to technological modernity, which was then being ushered in the city of Sao Paulo. It\ud became very popular on account of the availability of industrialized construction material for\ud importation and it expanded during a construction boom that attained the city of Sao Paulo,\ud after 1875. On the downfall of Brazilian monarchy, it gradually disappeared, as it became\ud the object of restrictive measures from the local county, which considered its proliferation unruly.\ud From the beginning of the XXth century, there was a change in public taste and urban reforms\ud were implemented in downtown Sao Paulo (1902 to 1914), which was followed by a desire\ud for a new urban scene, more in touch with the system of values and interests of hegemonic\ud sectors of the local political elite
